Caravanserai Ribat-i Sharaf, Iran
Royal caravanserai of Ribat-i Sharaf, 12th century AD, Seljuk style in Iran
During my visit in Iran in January 2003, at the beginning of my journey on the Silk Road, I reached this magnificent caravanserai on a cold, blue sky, winter day. It is located on the road between Mashad and Sarakhs, 6 kilometers south of Shorleq or Shurloq, tucked away in hilly terrain between the mountains, close to the border with Turkmenistan and on the ancient caravan route between Nishapur (Iran) and Merv (Turkmenistan).

Did you know that IRAN is the world's largest producer and exporter of CARPETS, producing 3/4ths of the world's total output?!
And frankly, you cannot visit Iran without being completely immersed in the carpet scene. They are decorating almost every floor in all mosques, palaces, museums, hotels, restaurants, households and any other notable buldings. The come in all kinds of textures, designs, colors and styles -- and they add such a unique flavor to Iranian culture. I am really enjoying it!
Today, I had the pleasure of visiting one of the most well known carpet shops in Isfahan, Iran -- and little did I know how EXPENSIVE they can be! Well, not all of them (some are $70USD...) but I found one today that is worth $100,000 USD!! Can you believe that? One carpet for the price of a nice house in Iran!
Join me as I take you deeper inside the world of Persian rugs, and stay tuned for more to come from this amazing G Adventures trip of a lifetime :)

Turkmenistan - Transit from Iran to Uzbekistan
From Iran to Uzbekistan, we transit through Turkmenistan. Four solid days of driving.
On the way, Ashgabat, the capital that entered the Guinness World Records for having the greatest concentration of marble buildings in the world.
The star of the journey “Door of Hell” the spectacular view of the burning flames inside the crater in the heart of the Karakum Desert. A natural gas field that collapsed into an underground cavern. Geologists intentionally set it on fire to prevent the spread of methane gas. And it is trough to have been burning continually since 1971.
Iran - Teil 04 & Turkmenistan | Terryontour | VLOG 8
Unsere letzte Karavanserei im Iran darf natürlich nicht fehlen. Danach sind wir ziemlich direkt in den Norden und über die Grenze nach Turkmenistan. Dort haben wir nur 5 Tage mit Transitvisum verbracht.

Harirud river (Herat river, Hari river, Tejan river, Tedzen river) Afghanistan, Iran, Turkmenistan.
The Hari River or Herat River is a river flowing 1,100 kilometres (680 mi) from the mountains of central Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, where it forms the Tejend oasis and disappears in the Karakum Desert.
In Turkmenistan it is known as the Tejen or Tedzhen river and passes close to the city of Tedzhen. To the Ancient Greeks it was known as the Arius. In Latin, it was known as the Tarius. Part of this river is also in Iran. The river originates in the Baba mountain range, part of the Hindu Kush system, and follows a relatively straight course to the west.
Still some 200 kilometres (120 mi) upstream from Herat the river meets the Jam River at the site of the Minaret of Jam, the second tallest ancient minaret in the world at 65 metres (213 ft).
In western Afghanistan the Hari Rud flows to the south of Herat. The valley around Herat was historically famous for its fertility and dense cultivation. After Herat, the river turns northwest, then north, forming the northern part of the border between Afghanistan and Iran. Farther north it forms the south-eastern part of the border between Iran and Turkmenistan. The Iran–Turkmenistan Friendship Dam is on the river.
The Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) is a hydroelectric and irrigation dam project located on the Hari Rud in Chishti sharif District of Herat Province in western Afghanistan.
The average annual discharge of the Hari Rud is about 55 m3/s, but during a spring flood in 1939 the discharge went up to 1090 m3/s.
In 2000, the river dried up completely during a 10-month drought.
Turkmenistan (1/4): Crossing the border and making my way into the desert | The Long Road Ep. 34
Turkmenistan, this video is about my first impression about a country, I frankly didn't even know that it existed, before I started to plan this trip.
Filmed with the iPhone 6.
The long Road is a journey from Germany all the way to Nepal, through the middle east, following the old silk road, China, South-East Asia and India. The whole journey will be overland (no planes, UFOs or portals) and put together into short videos on this channel :)
Greetings,
Georg

Zavaram village Shirvan Paradise lost in a valley in North Khorasan (1)
Where is my pilgrim village of Shirvan?
Zavaram village is located 28 km southwest of Shirvan in North Khorasan. Many people know this village as Paradise Valley. Zavaram is one of the mountainous areas and places of interest in North Khorasan.
Zavaram village can be considered as a lost paradise of North Khorasan in the true sense of the word. This village has unique natural attractions. Fortunately, my pilgrimage is a lesser known natural area. The natural texture of this village has not been damaged due to the influx of tourists and the traditional lifestyle of the people is still alive and well.
In the village of Zavaram, there is a beautiful river with clear and roaring water. This spectacular river originates from the mountains of the world of Arghian called Takht Mirza. Zavaram river is one of the most important factors in the greenery and development of the village
