Santiago de las Vegas is a ward of Boyeros, a municipality of Havana, Cuba, located 20 km south of the city center. As of 2012, the population was 32,958. The Cuban government maintains an agricultural experiment station as well as a meteorology center in the city.
In 1824, the town was declared a city, allowing their people to raise a statue dedicated to the Spanish King Ferdinand VII, placed at the Recreo Square. In 1831, the monarch corresponded by granting the city with the title of Faithful and Very Illustrious City Council.
Here was born, in 1923, the Italian writer Italo Calvino. It was also the birthplace of the notorious scientist Juan Tomás Roig Mesa, renowned botanist well known by his work on medicinal and poisonous plants. Other notable sons of the city were ethnomusicologist Helio Orovio and mezzo-soprano Esther Borja.

I took a taxi collectivo from Havana to Viñales. It took 2.5 hours and cost 25 CUC per person. I booked this through the casa I was staying at.

Mural de la prehistorica. Entry is 3CUC
Hotel Horizontes Jazmines
Zipline canopy tour El Fortin. Entry is 8 CUC.
Excursion to Cayo Jutias beach cost 15 cuc per person and I booked it through the Info tours office in Viñales. Journey time is 1.5 hours.
Art and Craft Market is located next door to 3j s tapas
Tour to Finca Randon el Arado
Costs 15 CUC and includes tour of farm and horse riding. I booked this through the casa.
Cuevas De Santo Tomas. This cave is half an hour taxi ride away and entry is 15 CUC. The climb is quite steep so wear good walking shoes/trainers. The tour lasts about 90 minutes
The cueva del Indio is another cave near Viñales. It costs 5CUC to enter.
Restaurants;
3Js bar de Tapas was my favourite restaurant in Viñales. The food and drink was delicious. I highly recommend the Piña colada.
Finca Agroecologica El Paraiso is a farm and restaurant. It’s best to get a taxi there as it is quite a distance from the town. It is a set menu of soup, different meats and fish served with vegetables and salad. It costs 15 CUC per person.

The Valle de los Ingenios tour included Mirador de la Loma del Puerta , Manaca Iznaga and San Isidro De los Destiladeros. Private tour by taxi costs 20 CUC per person.
Vegas grande waterfall. This costs 30 CUC per person by private taxi and entry to the waterfall is 10 CUC. You also can also stop off at mirador del caribe viewpoint.
Playa ancon beach. It is a 15 minute taxi ride from Trinidad and it cost 5CUC per person each way.
