Los españoles y jesuitas se establecieron a orillas del arroyo Tagarete, poniéndole a su fundación el nombre de Santiago en honor de Santo Santiago Apóstol, que se venera el 22 de julio y actualmente es el Patrono de la Iglesia Parroquial de esta ciudad. En España es muy venerado Santo Santiago Apóstol, por lo que en toda la ruta que siguieron los españoles existen gran cantidad de poblados y ciudades que en primer lugar llevan el nombre de Santiago.
Al sur de la ciudad existió una pequeña aldea de indios llamada Papasquialli.
El científico y explorador noruego Carl Lumholtz, en su libro El México Desconocido dice que Papasquiaro probablemente quiere decir paz quiero. Esta traducción se ha tomado, considerando que cuando los indios conquistados por los españoles, en uno de sus encuentros de armas, los indígenas fueron desastrosamente masacrados y en la desesperación de la derrota gritaban ¡Papasquialli!, ¡Papasquialli!. Sabiéndose después que era la palabra con que pedían paz, es decir, ¡Paz quiero![cita requerida] Mientras que E. Gamíz dice en su obra: En Papasquiaro se construyó un templo, por lo cual se le puso tal nombre: Lugar donde radican los Papas, en donde Papas significa Sacerdote. Papasquiaro significa Sacerdotes del Templo o Casa de las Aguilas

What comes to mind when you think of Durango Mexico? For us it the Pasito Duranguense, Gorditas, and a desert full of scorpions. Well we were pleasantly surprised of Durango after spending a couple of days here. In today's vlog we give you our first impressions of Durango, Durango street food, and even cool street art in Durango.
Victoria de Durango also known as Durango is located in the northwest side of Mexico. Durango Mexico was not what we expected and after spending two weeks here it's become one of our favorite cities of Mexico.
