A Tour of OAXACA City / Mitla & Tule / Mexico Travel 2023
Oaxaca City is located in southern Mexico and is the capital of the eponymous Mexican state of Oaxaca. The state is best known for its indigenous peoples and cultures- Zapotec and Mixtec, as well as for the traditional Oaxacan food. The city is often called the food capital of Mexico.
Oaxaca, together with the nearby archeological site of Monte Albán, was designated in 1987 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Oaxaca city is a very lively and pretty place where you can wander around the colorful streets and spend time in the city's main square - Zocalo, have a delicious Mexican dish and enjoy the vibrant ambiance.
Oaxaca is also home of mezcal and where more than 90% of all Mexico mezcal is produced. Mezcal is the national spirit of Mexico.
Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage. It is made from agave (specifically Agave americana)
Tequila is a form of mezcal, though they are distilled differently — mezcal is cooked in an underground oven, and tequila is boiled.
You can join one of the many mezcal tours, learn about the process of making and taste different sorts of mezcal drinks.
The video also features the archaeological site and ruins of Mitla, which is located about 44km from Oaxaca and is associated with the Zapotec and Mixtec cultures.
The video ends with a visit of Tule, located also in the state of Oaxaca. The city is popular with its Tree of Tule - one of the world's oldest trees, considered to be more than 2000 years old.

Exploring Mitla
This video is about our trip to Mitla, Oaxaca. We had a great time. I hope you all can enjoy this trip as much as we did.
INSIDE OAXACA'S ZAPOTEC RUINS - MITLA
Mitla is the second most important archaeological site in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico, and the most important of the indigenous Zapotec culture.
Mitla itself was inhabited at least since the Classic Period (100-650 CE) and perhaps from as early as 900 BCE.
The temples were used as a funeral ceremonial site. The designs contain geometric patterns. When the Spanish colonists arrived, they ordered the obliteration of the temples and built Catholic churches using the stones and materials from the temples. The theory as to why some buildings are still standing is due to the small geometric stones which were unusable for constructing the church.
Follow us as we walk through this archaeological treasure located outside the city of Oaxaca.

Things to do in OAXACA, Mexico. The BEST tour of OAXACA!? MITLA, MARKETS, MEZCAL and MORE!
Looking for things to do in Oaxaca, Mexico? Come along with us on THE BEST TOUR OF OAXACA to Mitla, Tlacolula’s Sunday Market, Teotitlan del Valle, Don Agave Mezcal Distillery, Arbol del Tule, and Caldo De Piedra!
Hello fellow Country Collectors! Today our adventure is taking us to the east of Oaxaca city. We are starting at Mitla - one of the most famous sites of Zapotec Culture, and then continuing back towards Oaxaca stopping next at Tlacolula de Matamoros. This town is famed for their traditional Sunday Market, where we are going to try to find some delicious barbacoa - bbq goat (including the head)! The next stop will bring us to Teotitlan Del Valle where we will learn all about their famous weavings. We’ll be feeling thirsty by then, so the next stop on the tour is at Don Agave Mezcal distillery where we will tour the grounds and learn all about how this magical beverage is produced and of course how it tastes! Stumbling to our next stop, we won’t believe our eyes at what we see! The WIDEST tree in the world! Is this the mezcal talking? Haha.. Our last stop on this incredible tour will bring us to Caldo De Piedra, aka Stone Soup for a once in a lifetime dining experience! Come along with us and see what this region of Oaxaca has to offer! XOXO
