Just literally *days* after this video was filmed, a trove of 24 bronze statues was discovered during excavations at the ancient Roman baths nearby.
They were also covered by about 6,000 ancient bronze, silver and gold coins, and were in an excellent state of preservation. They were hailed as the most significant find of their kind in 50 years.

The tradition has it that the Etruscan Lucumone of Chiusi Porsenna founded the Bagni Chiusini, appreciated and frequented later also by the Romans................

San Casciano dei Bagni stands on a hill 582 m above sea level. a short distance from the Val d'Orcia, the Valdichiana and the top of Monte Amiata, on the south-eastern edge of the province of Siena.

Come le tracce delle antiche mura, una porta di accesso, un palazzo che fu della famiglia Medici, la centralissima Piazza Pierozzi che altro non è che un largo incrocio. Fuori dalle mura la Piazza della Repubblica, giardino e luogo di incontro dei sancascianesi ove si può godere di un ampio panorama. E a proposito di panorama c'è la curiosa torre panoramica ricavata da una cisterna dell'acqua. E poi le chiese che sono numerose per un paese di campagna e testimoniano l'intensa vita religiosa e civile di San Casciano, come la collegiata di San Cassiano, la chiesa della Misericordia che custodisce tesori di arte inaspettati, la chiesa del Suffragio ancora officiata e nello stesso tempo parte del percorso museale del Museo Giuliano Ghelli. Quindi la chiesa di San Francesco sede attuale di una comunità di suore clarisse, mentre più distante dal centro la chiesa di Sant'Andrea dei frati cappuccini. E infine la pieve di Santa Cecilia a Decimo che dista da San Casciano più o meno un chilometro e da dove si può ammirare le colline intorno con le sue ville e anche il campanile della collegiata.

Albergaccio, Machiavelli's House, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Florence, Tuscany, Italy, Europe
House Machiavelli or Albergaccio, as it is universally known , was the home of the Niccolo Machiavelli during the exile and is located in Sant'Andrea in Percussina , in the municipality of San Casciano Val di Pesa. Niccolo Machiavelli (1469 - 1527) Secretary of the Florentine Republic in the years 1498-1512 , is one of the largest and most interesting figures of the Renaissance. Writer varied and cultured, reserved his interests above politics, that , first of all , he considered a science in its own right . The House of St. Andrew in Percussina along with several farms belonged to the family of the writer . Here he took refuge after being exiled from Florence in 1512 , when the Medici returned to the city . The farm , with the adjoining tavern Albergaccio , is described in one of his most famous letters , one addressed to his friend Francesco Vettori , dated December 10, 1513 . The letter described his day among the occupations that are derived from the conduct of its properties and evenings spent at the tavern to play backgammon with the innkeeper and butcher 's place . But at night he retired to his library and spends hours reading the classics that inspired a book , written straight in a few months , and entitled De Principatibus : Prince , the work to which he owes his fame. After his death the house passed to his heirs and always pedigrees came to the noble Florentine family of Serristori . A few years ago belongs to the Italian Wine Group here that has some of its most beautiful vineyards and restored it accurately. You can visit the rooms of the villa , the beautiful wineries , and through an underground passage , enter the tavern described by Machiavelli himself . Even this has preserved over the centuries unchanged atmosphere .

San Casciano in Val di Pesa - Mercatale in Val di Pesa
Mercatale in Val di Pesa è una frazione, oggi molto popolosa, del comune di San Casciano in Val di Pesa (FI). Il nome fa capire l'origine del borgo. Infatti fu fondato nel 1237 per iniziativa del podestà del vicino castello di Montecampolese che voleva un luogo ove fare il mercato settimanale per i borghi vicini. La località scelta per costruirvi la piazza in origine si chiamava Beccamorto.
Mercatale ha infatti la piazza a forma di imbuto come nei tipici mercati medievali. Ben presto in molti si trasferirono intorno alla piazza del Mercatale e alla fine divenne il centro più importante della zona, mentre Montecampolese si spopolò definitivamente. Al vertice estremo della piazza sorgeva un piccolo oratorio che nel '700 fu elevata a chiesa parrocchiale. La chiesa di Santa Maria è stata poi ingrandita e trasformata negli anni successivi: oggi si presenta con il curioso impianto di essere all'entrata ad un'unica navata e ad un certo punto diventare a tre navate. Di interesse sono delle sinopie di affreschi che si trovavano in dei tabernacoli nei dintorni e che oggi sono custoditi nella chiesa: tra esse anche una di Paolo Schiavo, allievo di Masolino da Panicale.
Vicina alla chiesa sorge il Palazzo Nunzi che fu realizzato dalla famiglia Strozzi.
