Charles Arthur Floyd (February 3, 1904 – October 22, 1934), nicknamed Pretty Boy Floyd, was an American bank robber. He operated in the West and Central states, and his criminal exploits gained widespread press coverage in the 1930s. He was seen positively by the public because it was believed that during robberies he burned mortgage documents, freeing many people from their debts. He was pursued and killed by a group of Bureau of Investigation (BOI) agents led by Melvin Purvis. Historians have speculated as to which officers were at the event, but accounts document that local officers Robert Pete Pyle and George Curran were present at his fatal shooting and also at his embalming. Floyd has continued to be a familiar figure in American popular culture, sometimes seen as notorious, other times portrayed as a tragic figure, even a victim of the hard times of the Great Depression in the United States.

The 'Real' Sallisaw
Nearly 70 years after its portrayal in John Steinbeck's classic The Grapes of Wrath, the city of Sallisaw is eager to shed its Dust Bowl image. No longer the desolate victim of the Great Depression, Sallisaw has turned into a thriving town with lush landscapes and plenty of community activities.

Kerr Beach Near Sallisaw Oklahoma A Tour of the FREE Swimming Area
Kerr Beach is a man-made swimming area adjacent to the Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam #15 on the Arkansas River about 8 miles south of Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
It is a Federal Park. Kerr Beach is not very well known despite the fact it has been in existence since 1971. I created this video for my friends and family who live in the Fort Smith Area so they can find Kerr Beach from Fort Smith, Arkansas. This video will detail the negatives and positives if you are planning on taking your friends or family swimming at Kerr. Overall, I recommend this swimming area to everyone.
2021 Update: The beach no longer has the restrooms (outhouses). They were removed several years ago. There are NO bathrooms there. The beach was closed for the year 2020 due to Covid-19. The Army Corps of Engineers may try to reopen this beach in 2021. Check for updates. In past years, tractors were used to smooth out the sand pulling up the weeds and making the beach nice. Once the beach reopens, they will do it again to smooth out the sand.
