I had the pleasure of visiting the city of Soran in Iraqi Kurdistan and meeting some incredible people and seeing the breathtaking nature. It is not at all what you'd expect from visiting Iraq! The Kurdish people just blow me away with their hospitality.

Episode summary:
I embarked on a mission to build a snowman in Iraqi Kurdistan, starting at the Erbil Citadel to buy supplies. Although the weather conditions on Mount Korek weren't favorable, my friend Shko kindly invited me to spend time with his family in the village of Koye. The next day, we visited the Geli Ali Beg waterfall before heading to Mount Korek, where we enjoyed the snow and even built a snowman. The episode concluded with a visit to the Rawanduz Canyon, making this an enjoyable and memorable journey.

Trip to Iraqi Kurdistan with Young Pioneers and Explore Mesopotamia. We started in Erbil before going to see the Yazidis in Lalish. We overnighted in Duhok and went to see one of Saddam Hussein's abandoned palaces on Gara Mountain. We stopped by Amadiya before overnighting in Rawanduz. We then drove down Hamilton Road and spent the night in Sulaymaniyah. We then saw the harrowing Red House Prison (Amna Suraka) and Halabja where many Kurds were imprisoned, killed and torchered under Saddam's Ba’athist regime before eventually flying out of Erbil.

Iraqi Taxi driver won't let me pay | Vlog Soran / Rawanduz | mE 51
First, I walk in Soran and get a falafel sandwich, then I walk from Soran to Rawanduz to discover with you a wonderful canyon. Then, I hitchhike back to Soran... a taxi driver offers me a free ride despite my insistence to pay. After that, I get a juice, some biscuits, and other local delicacies for dinner.

We probably shouldn't have done this... | Adventure Bike Travel Kurdistan Iraq
The latest episode in our Iraq series really gives a great look into a classic day of adventure bike travel in Kurdistan Iraq!
We make plans on the go as we meet an American in Rawanduz who suggests we visit a nearby canyon for some hiking. Little do we realise, the canyon is actually filled with via ferrata climbing sections, which are not so suitable for flip flops and sliders! But we decide to keep going anyway and make it a lot further than we thought we would! Probably a dumb thing to do, but we survived and it makes a good story now haha.
We met a Kurdish family half way up the canyon who invite us for lunch and tea, then show us how to dance Kurdish style! Such an amazing interaction - we love Kurdistan!
Then its back on the bike for some touring around Korek to visit some very touristic waterfalls, ride through a huge canyon that rivals anything else in the world, and meet plenty of friendly locals.
Finally, we end the day with a nice ride to the gorgeous Dukan Lake where we pitch up an epic wild camp and take a sunset swim in the lake.

Kidnapped In Kurdistan!!
We got bloody kidnapped in Kurdistan!
Today we tried to hitchhike from Soran to the beautiful canyon town of Rawanduz here in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Pretty much instantly we got picked up by the police and taken to the next town where we got out to check out a viewpoint at the bottom of the canyon.
From here we started walking to Rawanduz when a car blasting Kurdish music stopped and said get in! No good story ever started by saying no to such an offer so in we got and the adventure began.
We drove at 100mph, music blasting, making snapchats and eating ice creams until we ended up at an empty home in the middle of nowhere.
Our new friends were building a house in the mountains and invited us to sit and share some mountain dew, sunflower seeds and homemade kleicha.
Next we were back in the car and driving through some of the most incredible landscapes we've ever seen. At one point we stopped, got out the car, turned the music up and did a bit of Kurdish dancing in the middle of the road, only in Kurdistan eh.
The day wasn't over yet, our new friends invited us into their home where we met the whole family.
We then spent the night together chatting, eating home cooked food and getting a bit silly dancing in the living room.
To end the night we all ate rewaz together which was an interesting one for sure.
It got pretty late and we had now been with our kidnappers for like 12 hours so we said our sad goodbyes and father drove us home to our hotel.
This is bloody Kurdistan!
