Cohoes, NY: The Forgotten City Of The Capital Region
Cohoes, NY: The Forgotten City Of The Capital Region
This film discusses some of the history of Cohoes, NY, why we think it's forgotten & where it stands today. Cohoes is a small city which is part of Albany County in Upstate New York. When it comes to Capital Region tourism, we don't ever hear about Cohoes. Just look around...there's a lot of empty, abandoned & boarded up buildings all over town. This tells me that it is most definitely a dying city. In November 2017 there was a massive fire that destroyed an entire block on Remsen Street.
There is a flip side to this coin. You can see some efforts to revitalize the city. It isn't gentrifying though.
Added bonus:
Trip to Peebles Island State Park & Cohoes Falls.

Albany is the capital of the U.S. state of New York and the seat and largest city of Albany County. Albany is located on the west bank of the Hudson River approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of its confluence with the Mohawk River and approximately 135 miles (220 km) north of New York City.
Albany is known for its rich history, commerce, culture, architecture, and institutions of higher education. Albany constitutes the economic and cultural core of the Capital District of New York State, which comprises the Albany–Schenectady–Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area, including the nearby cities and suburbs of Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs. With a 2013 Census-estimated population of 1.1 million the Capital District is the third-most populous metropolitan region in the state. As of the 2010 census, the population of Albany was 97,856.
The area that later became Albany was settled by Dutch colonists who, in 1614, built Fort Nassau for fur trading and, in 1624, built Fort Orange. In 1664, the English took over the Dutch settlements, renaming the city as Albany, in honor of the then Duke of Albany, the future James II of England and James VII of Scotland. The city was officially chartered in 1686 under English rule. It became the capital of New York in 1797 following formation of the United States. Albany is one of the oldest surviving settlements of the original British thirteen colonies, and is the longest continuously chartered city in the United States.

Colonie Center is a shopping mall located in Roessleville, New York, a suburb of Albany, at the intersection of Central Avenue, Wolf Road, and Interstate 87. Opening in 1966, it was the first enclosed shopping mall in New York's Capital Region. The two-story mall has an area of about 1,300,000 square feet (120,000 m2) and 110 stores as well as a food court. Colonie Center was owned by Feldman Mall Properties until 2009 when it was sold to Heitman Value Partners. In April 2013, Heitman sold the mall to KKR & Co. L.P., partnered with Colonie Pacific. The mall anchors are Boscov's, Christmas Tree Shops, Macy's, Regal Cinemas, and Whole Foods Market. There's also a vacant spot last occupied by Sears, which closed in September 2017 with no current occupier of its former space. Another previous anchor included Steinbach. The L.L. Bean store in Colonie Center is the second busiest L.L. Bean store in the country, generating $12.4 million in annual sales. Outside of New York City, the Macy's store in Colonie Center is the highest revenue-producing Macy's store in the region with annual revenue of $50 million. The Whole Foods Market generates $24.6 million in annual revenue. The mall is located near the busiest intersection in the capital region.

Albany to Troy thru NY Route 32
This video looks best in 4K.
- NY 32 follows South Pearl Street between the Mansion and Pastures neighborhoods, intersecting US 20 (Madison Avenue) near the approach to the Dunn Memorial Bridge, and then becoming one of the two main streets of downtown Albany. At Clinton Square and the Palace Theatre it intersects US 9 along Clinton Avenue. Near the city limits, NY 32 passes under I-90. Upon crossing into the neighboring village of Menands, NY 32 bears onto Wolfert Avenue to access Broadway. Broadway, a business thoroughfare originating in downtown Albany, is designated NY 910C, an unsigned reference route, for 0.06 miles (0.10 km) south of Wolfert Avenue to the Albany city line.[2] NY 32 occupies Broadway north of Wolfert Avenue, right at the former headquarters of Albany International, paralleling I-787. I-787's exit 6 ramps meet NY 32 in Menands, then NY 32 crosses over railroad tracks and soon leaves the village. NY 32 enters the hamlet of Schuyler Heights in the town of Colonie. After a short stretch the road enters the city of Watervliet where the name changes from Broadway to Third Avenue. The Watervliet Arsenal forces NY 32 to curve northeasterly as Ninth Street. Then at a traffic signal NY 32 turns left onto Broadway.
At 13th Street, NY 32 leaves Broadway and follows 13th two blocks west to an intersection with 2nd Avenue. Here, NY 155 begins and occupies 13th Street to the west of 2nd Avenue while NY 32 turns north onto 2nd. NY 32 continues ...

Reimagining Albany's Waterfront | Redesigning Interstate 787
Interstate 787 cuts off Albany from the Hudson River. For years, residents of Albany have sacrificed access to the water for convenience commuting to downtown Albany and the Empire State plaza. It's time to reimagine Albany's waterfront. The Albany Riverfront Collaborative is proposing replacing 787 with a surface boulevard. Albany is going to reclaim its waterfront, with your help.
