Mikkeli (ruots. S:t Michel) on Suomen kaupunki ja Etelä-Savon maakuntakeskus, joka sijaitsee Saimaan luoteisrannalla Etelä-Savon maakunnassa.
Kaupungissa asuu 52 530 henkilöä, ja sen pinta-ala on 3 229,57 km², josta 681,38 km² on vesistöjä. Järviä ja lampia kaupungissa on noin 700. Väestötiheys on 20,6 asukasta/km². Keskustaajaman ja siihen välittömästi liittyvien Rantakylän ja Moisio-Tuukkalan alueiden ulkopuolella tiheämmin asuttuja alueita ovat Anttolan ja Ristiinan entisten kuntien kirkonkylät, Otavan taajama ja Haukivuoren Asemankylä.
Mikkelin naapurikunnat ovat Hirvensalmi, Juva, Kangasniemi, Mäntyharju, Pieksämäki, Puumala ja Savitaipale.
Mikkeli sijaitsee Vuoksen vesistön ja Kymijoen vesistön välisellä vedenjakajalla. Kaupungin keskusta on Saimaan Savilahden rannalla. Kaupungin itäosien järvet kuuluvat Vuoksen vesistöön. Lännessä kaupunki tavoittaa Kymijoen vesistön Mäntyharjun reittiin kuuluvan Puulaveden. Pohjoispuolella kaupunki ulottuu Kyyvedelle, joka laskee Puulaveteen.
