The ULTIMATE Travel Guide to Melbourne Australia

Melbourne is one of the world's greatest cities and yes, one of its most liveable. It is also one of the world's best travel destinations and it offers the visitor an amazing number of attractions. This video details how to get around the city, where to eat, where to stay, where to get great coffee (many consider Melbourne the greatest coffee city on earth!), what there is to do and see in the city and the best day trips outside of Melbourne.

I hope you enjoy this video and please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you do. More videos about Melbourne and Australia (and New Zealand) coming soon. Thanks!

VRBO Link:

I admit to having a bias about Melbourne as I was born here and spent the first 11 years of my life in the City. I visit often and know the city like the back of my hand (although I do admit to having a hard time keeping up with the many changes in Melbourne over the years).

Some of the many attractions discussed in this video include the Queen Victoria Market, Sporting Events (tennis, Formula 1, cricket and the magnificent Aussie Rules Football), the Melbourne Zoo and Sealife, art and architecture and the famous Melbourne parks. The attractions outside of the city include the Great Ocean Road, the Mornington Peninsula, Phillip Island (the Penguin Parade), Puffing Billy and the Healesville Sanctuary.

More about Melbourne:
Melbourne, Australia, stands as a vibrant and captivating destination that seamlessly blends urban sophistication with a relaxed cultural charm. Renowned for its diverse culinary scene, thriving arts and music culture, and stunning architecture, Melbourne offers a rich tapestry of experiences that make it an irresistible city to visit.

One of Melbourne's most distinctive features is its reputation as a food lover's paradise. The city boasts an eclectic array of dining options, ranging from trendy cafes serving up artisanal coffee and breakfast delights to upscale restaurants offering innovative global cuisine. Wander through bustling food markets like Queen Victoria Market, where fresh produce, local delicacies, and international flavors converge. The city's multicultural population is reflected in its dining offerings, ensuring that every palate is catered to.

Melbourne's artistic spirit is palpable, with a thriving arts scene that embraces both traditional and contemporary forms. The iconic National Gallery of Victoria showcases an extensive collection of art spanning centuries and continents, while the street art scene in neighborhoods like Fitzroy and Collingwood transforms the city's walls into open-air galleries. The Melbourne Arts Precinct, anchored by the Arts Centre Melbourne and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, serves as a hub for theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions, and other cultural events.

Sporting enthusiasts will find Melbourne to be a haven as well. The city is synonymous with major international sporting events, such as the Australian Open, one of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) holds a revered place in the hearts of sports fans and hosts cricket matches, Australian Rules Football games, and concerts. The passion for sports is deeply ingrained in the local culture, making attending a live event an exhilarating experience.

Melbourne's design and architecture contribute to its unique appeal. The city seamlessly integrates historic landmarks with contemporary structures. The Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases stunning 19th-century architecture. On the other hand, Federation Square's bold and modern design has become a meeting point and cultural hub. The city's blend of old and new provides an intriguing visual landscape for exploration.

Beyond its urban offerings, Melbourne serves as a gateway to natural beauty. Just a short drive away, the Great Ocean Road unveils breathtaking coastal vistas and iconic rock formations like the Twelve Apostles. Yarra Valley, renowned for its wineries and lush landscapes, offers a relaxing retreat for wine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

🦖 Explore Richmond Queensland ~ Things to do in and around Richmond

🦖 Explore Richmond Queensland ~ Things to do in and around Richmond

Richmond is a small outback town on the Flinders Highway halfway between Townsville and Mount Isa, and it is 1,662 km northwest of Brisbane.

00:00 Introduction
01:04 Wander around Richmond
02:22 Lake Fred Tritton
02:50 Kronosaurus Splash Park
03:20 Kronosaurus Korner
05:40 Cambridge Downs Heritage Display Centre

Richmond was once part of the ancient Eromanga Sea and is now known as the Fossil Capital due to the many marine fossils discovered in the area.

During our recent visit, we wandered around the town, the Fred Tritton Lake and the Kronosaurus Splash Park. We visited Kronosaurus Korner and explored the Cambridge Downs Heritage Display Centre.

As you wander around town, you will see quite a few heritage buildings with informative signs about their early origins.

Lake Fred Tritton is located on the edge of town; it has a 1.2-kilometre circumference and a maximum depth of eight metres. You can wander around the walking track, swim, kayak, or fish in the lake. The Kronosaurus Splash Park is on the edge of the lake, a great place to cool down on a hot day.

Kronosaurus Korner is part of Australia’s Dinosaur Trail, and it houses Australia’s best-preserved dinosaur and a fantastic collection of marine reptile fossils.

The self-guided audio tour is informative and lets you wander around and learn about the many different fossils at your own pace. 'Penny the Plesiosaur’ is the most complete plesiosaur discovered in Australia.

Kronosaurus Korner has a cafe and a gift shop, and there are several dinosaurs you can take a photo with outside the building.

Richmond also has two dedicated fossicking sites twelve kilometres out of town where you can try and find a fossil of your own! Ask for directions and your permit at the visitor centre, and if you find something, it can be identified by the local paleontologist at Kronosaurus Korner.

The Cambridge Downs Heritage Display Centre is open daily from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and replicates the original Cambridge Downs Homestead built in the late 1860s. It has historical displays about farming and gold mining in the local area.
