Drive with me around San Luis Potosí historic center| History + places to visit| Tour
San Luis Potosi's historic center is a remarkable place to explore. The city's rich history, colonial architecture, and numerous churches make it a captivating destination.
It's intriguing to learn that the city was founded due to the discovery of gold and silver deposits in Cerro de San Pedro. The transformation of Cerro de San Pedro from a mining town to a ghost town and now a tourist spot is quite remarkable.
San Luis Potosí is often regarded as the cradle of the Mexican Revolution, boasts significant historical importance. It served as Mexico's capital twice and holds a strategic location as an intermediate point between major cities and ports. The city has witnessed recent economic growth, driven by the development of numerous industrial parks, including those housing major companies like BMW and General Motors.
The state's expansive territory, resembling a dog's shape, encompasses diverse attractions. In the semi-desertic region, places like Real de Catorce, Cerro de San Pedro, and San Luis Potosí city are worth exploring. The jungle region offers natural wonders such as Sotano de las Golondrinas, waterfalls, and lakes in Rio Verde, Ciudad Valles, El Naranjo, Tamasopo, Xilitla, and the Edward James sculpture garden.
Despite concerns about safety due to reports of cartels in some regions, I felt safe exploring the state and of course I recommend taking common-sense precautions.
The city features the longest pedestrian avenue in Latin America, Calzada de Guadalupe, with attractions like the Caja del Agua and Centro de las Artes, housed in the former State Penitentiary. Tangamanga Park, one of the country's largest parks, offers recreational spaces, theaters, museums, and a large lake.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of San Luis Potosí, considered the state's most important monument, showcases baroque and neoclassical architecture. Plaza del Carmen, the city's largest square, hosts significant landmarks, including Templo del Carmen and museums. Plaza Fundadores, the birthplace of the city, features historic buildings like Compañía Church and the Government Palace, surrounded by shops and restaurants.
I hope you enjoy this driving tour and the information provided.

San Luis Potosi, Mexico
Located in Mexico's central region, the state of San Luis Potosi has fast-flowing rivers, mountain areas covered with lush vegetation and arid zones with abundant brushwood.
San Luis Potosi was founded in the colonial era during the mining boom. As you check out the streets and buildings of some of the old mining towns like Real de Catorce, you'll realize that the magic and charm has been preserved.
In the city of San Luis Potosi, the state capital, you'll see unique architecture and can visit museums with interesting collections of Teenek crafts. The Teeneks live in nearby towns, such as Santa Maria del Rio, where you can buy fine hand-made shawls, cotton garments and colorful embroidered items. Later you can visit the Gogorron National Park, where you can go hiking and mountain bike riding.
In San Luis Potosi's Huasteca region, you can observe diverse flora and fauna at El Potosi National Park, or you can go cave diving at the Media Luna Lagoon, near Rio Verde.
In Ciudad Valles you can go diving in the Pozo Azul at Puente de Dios. Nearby, be sure to visit the Tamul and Micos waterfalls, ideal spots for fishing and rappelling. During your visit, we recommend that you experience the rush of paragliding at Sotano de las Golondrinas and enjoy the thrill of a rafting adventure down the Tampaon River. You'll also want to check out the ruins at El Consuelo.

TRAVEL IN 2020
Tamul is a waterfall deep in the heart of San Luis Potosí, Mexico 🇲🇽.

Auto:
Si usas GPS busca “Manantial La Media Luna”, si sólo pones Media Luna te manda a otra comunidad.

San Luis Potosí: Our First Impressions of the City! (Mexico Travel Vlog)
San Luis Potosí is yet another underrated, often overlooked gem in Mexico!
We spent most of our time there working from our Airbnb, taking city walks, and just moving at a slower pace. When we did explore though, we quickly realized how much we liked the city and found it very charming and livable. Some of the highlights of the city for us were:
*It is EXTREMELY walkable and bike friendly. Large sidewalks, more pedestrian only streets than we've seen in any other city in Mexico so far, and numerous large plazas are all great features of the city's historic center and surrounding area.
*It's not overran with tourism and everyone we met was very kind and friendly to us.
*It's got a very good location within the country of Mexico. It's close enough to many of the main population points in the country like Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. You get to experience all that central Mexico and the colonial heartland have to offer while also being close to North Mexico. It's also close to amazing natural attractions like numerous waterfalls at Huasteca Potosina and the Las Pozas garden.
* The food scene is absolutely incredible! Street food all over and we tried pozole for the first time in San Luis Potosí and it really blew our minds! So good and we're absolutely hooked now.
In this video, we take you with us on a walk around the city and discuss our first impressions. We for sure were not experts about the city when filming this video, and still aren't. But at the time of filming, we were seeing most of the sights for the first time. If you're wanting an in-depth look at the city from an expert, look elsewhere or stay tuned because this is a city we'll be spending a lot more time at in the future and becoming much more knowledgeable about. :)
To all of you who are subscribed and watch our videos, thanks so much for your continued support! You all are the best and keep us going. Seriously! :) If you are new here and enjoy our 'style', if you can call it that :D, please consider subscribing. It's free and easy and really helps us out.
We'd love your thoughts and insight on San Luis Potosí, both the city and the state!
