Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

Places to see in ( Stokesley - UK )

Places to see in ( Stokesley - UK )

Stokesley is a small market town and civil parish in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire, it lies on the River Leven. Stokesley is located about two miles south of the boundary of the borough of Middlesbrough and ten miles south of Middlesbrough town centre. Stokesley is located between Middlesbrough, Guisborough and Northallerton, in a farming area. Local attractions for visitors include nearby Great Ayton, as well as Captain Cook's monument and Roseberry Topping, both of which lie within the North York Moors National Park.

Stokesley was first granted a charter to hold fairs in 1223 by Henry III. The Pack Horse Bridge, crossing the River Leven from the riverside walk, dates from the 17th century. Renowned for its large range of building types, the latter construction within Stokesley of sundry fine Georgian architecture is thought to have contributed much to its later character. Other prominent historical features around the town include the Mill Wheel, thought to represent the site of a mill recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The famous survey, by William the Conqueror, also contained the first written record of a church and priest in Stokesley. The present Church of St Peter and St Paul - the oldest building in the town - has a later medieval tower and chancel, with a Georgian nave built around 1777: it is located just off the market Plain and has colourful twentieth century stained glass and some woodwork carved by the Mouseman of Kilburn.

Visitors to Stokesley today will find an intact historic high street, lined with many independent small shops and restaurants. Other facilities include a leisure centre with a swimming pool, a medium-sized supermarket, show-ground, camping site, health centre, industrial estate, library, police and fire stations. The town also has five pubs. Stokesley is also the home of Quorn, produced by Marlow Foods. There are many grade II listed buildings, including four Grade II* listed buildings of special architectural or historic interest. These are Barclays Bank, Handyside Cottage, the Manor House and the Old Rectory.

The inaugural meeting of the Stokesley Agricultural Society was held at the Golden Lion Hotel, now Chapters Hotel, in 1859. This boutique hotel was also used as the local law courts for the area being ideally placed between Middlesbrough and Northallerton. Stokesley Agricultural Show, first held in 1859, is held every year on the third Saturday in September. It is, perhaps, the largest one day show in England.

There is a weekly market held on a Friday in the main square called the Plain. A farmers' market takes place on the first Saturday of each month. A four-day fair takes place every September in the town centre. The fair spans the full length of the high street and rides such as the KMG Equinox-Tango, the Extreme, Vertigo and various Crows rides attend. The fair always begins on a Wednesday evening and runs until the Saturday, opening all day on the Saturday due to the annual agricultural show which takes place on the showground.

Stokesley is served by the Arriva service 28a from Middlesbrough every hour and the 81 from Marske Estate every hour. Hutchinson's run irregular services 82 (Stokesley-Yarm) and 83 (Stokesley-Seamer & Newby). Abbott's of Leeming run hourly service 80/89 to Northallerton & Romanby via Osmotherley. On Fridays only there is also a bus to Kildale. On Wednesdays only the 27 runs to Whitby via the Esk Valley.

Stokesley was originally served by rail and had a railway station and extensive sidings on the Northallerton to Stockton branch. The station closed to passengers in June 1954, pre-dating the large scale closures of the Beeching era. Goods facilities remained until August 1965 when the line closed completely. The station was featured extensively in the British Transport film A Farmer Moves South in 1951, and now included in a DVD compilation. The nearest railway station is now at Great Ayton.

Walking in Quarndon, Derbyshire, UK (4K Ultra HD 60fps) | Urban Walks 4K #003

Quarndon is a linear village in the south of the Amber Valley District of Derbyshire, England. It is spread along four minor upland roads, approximately 1 mile north of the Derby suburb of Allestree, two of which lead towards the city.

Many tourists throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries visited Quarndon's chalybeate springs within and next to its wellhouse. Many of these also sampled the waters of a geologically related spring in the grounds of its western neighbour, Kedleston Park and Hall, Kedleston – a village with a smaller population due to its few roads and single land-dominating estate which was once its manor. The lords of that manor equally held lands here and were significant patrons of the church, the early 19th century free school founded here and funded the construction of the village hall.

Quorn & Woodhouse Station Bus & Train Spectacular 2019

The 6th Leicester Heritage Transport Trusts running day held in association with The Great Central Railway is featured in this action packed film with vintage buses and trains in operation from Quorn and Woodhouse Station.

Frequent bus trips ran around the local Charnwood area and to Loughborough Great Central Railway where there were opportunities to take a train journey back. The action begins with many of the buses including 40, 90 and 301 on Woodhouse Road on their way to the event. Some of the buses including 40 and 50 can be seen in service in the centre of Loughborough and at the Loughborough Midland Station. The action switches back to Quorn station with many buses departing and arriving back from trips. A Leyland Tiger Cub from Delaine is shown running to Barrow with a completely full load before from 12.56 onwards some of the buses are seen leaving along with some of the later trips. Look out at 13.26 for a superb 5 bus sequence involving 164, RCT3, 301 and others.

It was fantastic to see a huge variety of buses at the event which was very well attended in spite of the very cold conditions. Thankfully the heavy rain did not materialise.

I hope that I have included some of your favourites as for me hard to pick one but some of the visiting vehicles especially DSG 169 were great to have a ride on.

Beacon Hill Country Park - FULL VIDEO TOUR (Leicestershire, England)

Beacon Hill Country Park! A nice park offers great views of Loughborough, Leicestershire and also Derbyshire!

Address: Woodhouse Eaves, Loughborough LE12 8SP, UK

Beacon Hill, near Loughborough, in Leicestershire, England, is a popular country park. It is one of several beacon hills in the United Kingdom.

The park consists of over 135 hectares (330 acres) of grassland and woodland and offers recreational walking, and some short climbs. With a maximum height of 248 metres (814 ft), it is the second highest point in Leicestershire after Bardon Hill.

An extinct volcano, in Whitwick, 4 miles (6 km) to the west, was responsible for the fine-grained igneous rocks that the hill consists of. Beacon Hill was the site of a Bronze Age hill fort. Today a toposcope indicates landmarks which can be seen from the summit. These include Lincoln Cathedral and the hills of the Peak District.

Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station is aligned so that, seen from the summit, only two of its eight cooling towers are visible.

On a clear day Belvoir Castle can be seen as well as the hills in the Peak District. Derby, Nottingham, and the tower of Lincoln Cathedral can be seen with a pair of binoculars. Loughborough is seen below the hill as is Beaumanor Hall. You can also hear and see steam trains on the Great Central Railway which has stations at Loughborough, Quorn and Woodhouse.

It was featured on the 2005 TV programme Seven Natural Wonders as one of the wonders of the Midlands. There are some very interesting rocks on the summit.

Nearby are two small woods both accessible to the public. Jubilee Wood is 2 miles (3 km) north-west of the lower Beacon hill car park on the Woodhouse Eaves to Nanpantan road and the Outwoods which is adjacent to Jubilee Wood.

The park has been awarded the Green Flag Award.

Quorn & Woodhouse Bus & Train Spectacular 2023

Vintage buses in action together with trains at the Great Central Railway feature at the 9th Bus & Train Spectacular hosted by Leicester Transport Heritage Trust and the GCR at Quorn. Once again some superb buses from the local area and guests from further afield assembled at the station yard along with quality transport merchandise stalls and refreshments which were on sale. You could take a ride on a steam train to Loughborough or a trip aboard a vintage bus around the local area or hop off to do some shopping. And this time an additional trip to the Mountsorrel Branch Line ran where you could take a trip on M79900 Iris.

The film starts with many of the buses arriving along Woodhouse Road in the morning before after a brief look at some of the buses on display.
The action switches to Loughborough where various buses can be seen operating the 70 and 75 services from Quorn Station to Loughborough and the Midland Station. I then took a trip on board an open top back to Quorn where many buses can be seen arriving and departing on trips. A few trains can also be seen with visiting rail car Iris departing from Quorn.

I hope you have enjoyed the action. What an event! It really doesn't come much better than this. So many superb vehicles in attendance many of which I have not seen before. My favourites were the Leyland double deckers but from the 50 buses which is your favourite?
Please feel free to comment or leave a like. Thank you to the organisers and volunteers at the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust for all their hard work before and during the event. If you want to find out more check out LTHT Facebook page which has some superb photos from the event or maybe make a donation or find out more on their website at Must also thank all the bus owners for bringing their buses for us to enjoy and photograph.
