Looking for FUN things to do in Savannah, GA? Try Fort Pulaski National Monument. Fort Pulaski is located on Cockspur Island between Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia. And was the site of a famed Civil War battle. The fort is named after famed American Revolution hero Casimir Pulaski. Fort Pulaski represents a turning point in Civil War military history. For much of the 1800’s, masonry fortifications were the United States’ main defense against enemy attacks from the sea. During the Civil War, these forts could not hold up against new technology. The Union army used rifled cannons against the Confederate garrison inside Fort Pulaski. The siege was a landmark experiment in the history of military science and invention. The deep scars from this attack are still present today. The island is a wondrous place. A place where the affects of Hurricane Irma still exist. Selkirk Shores State Park - Pulaski NY - New Least Favorite!
Selkirk Shores State Park is our least favorite so far of this season. Between being packed in and the firepits being close to road, this one left us feeling disappointed. We chose site 122 because of it's proximity to Lake Ontario in hopes of some gorgeous sunsets, only to find the view completely covered in tree shrubbery. We went down to the beach swimming area only to find a view of the nuclear power plant. The bathrooms are the same as the day they were opened in 1926.
If you find yourself going to Selkirk shores state park, opt for either the acorn or bird loops for the least unpleasant of experiences.

New River Trails State Park - Section 3 - Foster Falls to Pulaski
New River Trail State Park is a 57-mile linear park that parallels the scenic and historic New River for 39 miles. It meanders through Grayson, Carroll, Wythe and Pulaski counties and the city of Galax, offering 12 different access points.
The section of trail from Foster Falls to Pulaski is 22 miles long and is home to the Foster Falls Boat and Bike Livery, which is open for rentals April through October, the Foster Falls Depot and Inn at Foster Falls, the 951-foot Hiwassee Trestle, Hoover Mountain Biking Area and much more. This section also features two boat ramps, horse trailer parking and several picnic areas.
