You know this channel is never biased in the coverage of cities, towns, and villages in the United Kingdom. Consistent with that, we shift our attention to Northern Ireland in this video. This time we want to talk about the 10 best towns to live in Northern Ireland. Before we begin, we have to be quick in saying that towns in this region of the UK are generally cooler than those you would find near London, Manchester, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. However, it would be unfair to believe that they are less sophisticated. After all, towns in Northern Ireland are expected to be influenced by the cities nearby. We now invite you to pay more than usual attention to this video.
10. Portstewart
We feel so good beginning this in Portstewart. This is a small town in County Londonderry with a population of 8,003. It is a seaside resort beside Portrush. Portstewart has a good-looking harbor and scenic coastal paths that form an Atlantic promenade that leads to a two-mile beach popular with holidaymakers all year round, not just during summer. Victorian middle-class families are in love with this town as a holiday destination. It has a long, crescent-shaped seafront promenade that is sheltered by rocky headlands. Portstewart is a reasonably prosperous town. You can thus live there and make good fortunes. Most of it is contained in the Strand electoral ward which is counted as one of the most affluent areas in the region.
9. Castlewellan
Castlewellan is a small town in County Down. The town in the southeast of Northern Ireland is close to the Irish Sea and beside Castlewellan Lake and Slievenaslat Mountain. It is also 11 miles southwest of Downpatrick. The town was originally designed for the Annesley Family by a French architect. As one of the 10 best towns to live in Northern Ireland, it has a wide main street running through two main squares lined with chestnut trees. One of the beautiful features of this town is Drumena Cashel, a small stone-built farmstead enclosure situated two miles southwest of Castlewellan, off the A25 road to Rathfriland. Castlewellan Forest Park and Castlewellan Lake also deserve to be mentioned in this town. Though the Castlewellan Castle is not generally open to everyone, the sight of this Scottish baronial beautiful and tranquil castle of 1856 is enough to add flavor to each day of life in the town.
8. Larne
Larne is a town with a population of 18,755 on the east coast of County Antrim. This town is a major passenger and freight roll-on roll-off port administered by Mid- and East Antrim Borough Council. It is also a civil parish in the historic barony of Glenarm Upper. Larne rose from the lowest spot during the course of The Troubles to become one of the best places to live. The significant paramilitary presence in the town has ensured the safety of residents. The Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and Ulster Defense Association (UDA) are helping to ensure that it sustains the peace for which it is presently known.
7. Newtownards
Also in County Down is Newtownards, a town lying at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough. Located on the Ards Peninsula, it’s just 10 miles east of Belfast in the civil parish of Newtownards. The town with a population of 28,050 is beautified by the 100-foot Scarbo Tower overlooking it and built as a memorial to Charles Stewart, the third Marquess of Londonderry in 1857. It also has Movilla Abbey, Somme Heritage Center toward the north which is a unique attraction of international significance telling the historical reality of the Great War including its effects on the community at home.

Bushmills is a village on the north coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Bushmills is located 60 miles from Belfast, 11 miles from Ballycastle and 9 miles from Coleraine. Bushmills owes its name to the River Bush and to a large watermill that was built there in the early 17th century.
The village is best known as the location of the Old Bushmills Distillery. The distillery's products include the Bushmills Original and Black Bush blends, as well as the 10-, 12-, 16-, and 21-year-old Bushmills Single Malts. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of distilling starting in the area the distillery released a unique whiskey called the 1608 which included crystal malt. The distillery draws its water, not from the River Bush itself, but from a tributary known as Saint Columbs Rill. The Giant's Causeway, which attracts over two million visitors per year, is located 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the town.
Bushmills railway station opened on 28 January 1883, but finally closed on 1 October 1949. There is a narrow-gauge steam train running in the summer from Bushmills to the Giant's Causeway.
The Belfast-Derry railway line run by Northern Ireland Railways connects to Coleraine and along the branch line to Portrush. Local Ulsterbus provides connections to the railway stations. There is a scenic walk of 7 miles from Portrush alongside Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway and Bushmills Railway.
The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles (4.8 km) northeast of the town of Bushmills.

Portstewart is a small town in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It is a seaside resort neighbouring Portrush. Portstewart harbour and scenic coastal paths form an Atlantic promenade leading to 2 miles of golden strand (Portstewart Strand). Portstewart is probably best known for this sandy beach, popular with surfers.
Portstewart was a popular holiday destination for Victorian middle-class families. Its long, crescent-shaped seafront promenade is sheltered by rocky headlands. Portstewart is a reasonably prosperous town. Most of the town is contained in the Strand electoral ward and this is one of the most affluent areas in Northern Ireland. In a deprivation index of electoral wards in Northern Ireland the Strand Ward in the town was ranked 570th out of the 582 wards.
Portstewart is one of the most integrated towns in Northern Ireland with the religious demographics similar to the population of Northern Ireland as a whole. Community relations are generally good within the town. Dominican College, a Catholic grammar school, has a significant proportion of Protestant students and staff.
Portstewart has a Dominican convent (an imposing Gothic mansion) with the attached Dominican College sitting on the edge of a cliff which dominates the western end of the Promenade. The site, formally known as O'Hara's Castle was built in 1834 and purchased by members of the Dominican order in 1917 for the purpose of being a centre of education in the north west of Ireland.
Just west of the town stretches Portstewart Strand, a clean two-mile long blue flag beach, protected by the National Trust. Portstewart Strand has been the most popular attraction of Portstewart to holiday-makers for generations. Beneath the convent is a cliff path which stretches along the coast from the Promenade to Portstewart Strand. From here it is a popular walk to the Barmouth, where the Bann flows out into the Atlantic Ocean.
In one of the caves beneath the cliff path there was reputed to be a secret passage leading to O'Hara's Castle, now the Dominican Convent. No evidence of the existence of this passage has been recorded. To the east of Portstewart is a popular walking/cycling path along the coast to Portrush, leading to the Giants Causeway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Old Bushmills Distillery (the oldest licensed distillery in the world). The North Antrim Coast Path which forms part of the Ulster Way starts at Portstewart Strand and continues for 40 miles along the coast to Murlough Bay.

Portstewart Strand, Portrush, Northern Ireland - GOT
Portstewart Strand, with its long sandy beach is where Jamie Lannister and Ser Bronn, disguised as Martell soldiers, approach the gates of the Water Gardens and where the two fight some Dornish, take their horses and ride off towards the Water Gardens - Season 5 Episode 4, Sons of the Harpy.
Portstewart Strand happens to be one of the top 10 visitor attractions in Northern Ireland - which we believe might have been caused due to its appearance in Game of Thrones movie. Portstewart Strand is a two-mile long beach in Portstewart, Londonderry, on the Northern Atlantic Ocean coast of the island of Ireland. Portstewart Strand is also situated between the seaside resort of Portstewart and the mouth of the River Bann, which is known as Barmouth.
For those tourists and visitors who are checking this place out of going to the most visited attractions in the country then they have to know that one of the best things about this place is the fact that cars could be actually brought onto the beach and parked on the strand; so you might end up sitting in the car and enjoying the scene in front of you. Other than that, you could park anywhere and just walk on the beach while enjoying the good weather - which will depend on your luck :-) as well as enjoy the peace of mind.
Even though this place is considered the perfect hit for the families that wish to have a picnic, it is also the right place for those who want to enjoy any of the different water activities that are found there, such as surfing and swimming, and that even comes in addition to other types of activities and sports like walking or horse riding - lots of things to be done there.
The reason behind visiting this place and coming to check the beautiful scenes and views that it has to offer, goes back to its appearance in Game of Thrones movie series and being one of the different locations that the scenes of the movie were filmed at; it appeared in season 5, episode 4, in Sons of The Harpy. Game of Thrones is known to be an original HBO series that is based on George R.R. Martin's best selling fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, and it was filmed in different locations across Northern Ireland.
We have managed to make a tour that is dedicated to Game of Thrones locations across the country and we succeeded at visiting a good number of them. From those different Game of Thrones filming locations in Northern Ireland which we have been to, we visited the Dark Hedges which is considered one of the most famous ( Toome Canal in Toomebridge, county Antrim ( Binevenagh Mountain ( Lough Neagh which has been known as the Smoking Sea through the movie ( Larrybane which is beside Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge ( Cushendun Caves ( and this of course comes in addition to the different restaurants, bars, pubs, and hotels in which the 10 doors are located - which we also got the chance to pass by and visit some of them.
Those other destinations which we have headed to to check the different doors that appeared throughout the episodes include the Percy French Restaurant where door number 3 is located ( Blakes of the Hollow pub in Enniskillen, county Fermanagh where door number 4 is placed ( the Fullerton Arms Hotel in Ballintoy, Ballycastle where door number 6 is found ( Mary McBride's Bar in Cushendun, county Antrim for door number 8 ( the Ballygally Castle Hotel for door number 9 ( and we have also been to the Dark Horse Bar in Belfast Commercial Court in order to check door number 10 (
The main reason behind these trips we have made and all these different locations which we have visited goes back to being part of Game of Thrones filming locations, but we could assure you that in addition to checking a place related to the movie, you will never regret visiting all these magnificent places in Northern Ireland as well.
