Morena District Madhya Pradesh || Land of famous Temples and Chambal River || Travel Guide+Overview
The district is located on the north-western border of the state in Chambal valley. The present Morena is combined with the Sikarwari and Tanwargarh districts of 19th century. Due to major settlement of SikarwarRajputs in Ambah area, this was known as Sikarwari. Similary due to the settlement of Tanwars(Tomars) in Joura area, the central part of the district was called Tanwargarh. The district Sikarwari, the part of former Gwalior state was later on merged into Tanwarghar in 1904 with headquarters of Joura-Alapur which is presently a tahsil headquaters. As per order No 6/10/1923 the pargana headquarters shifted from Nurabad to Morena and vide order No. 492 dated 6/10/1923 the district headquarters was also changed to Morena. In the year 1948 consequent to the formation of Madhya Bharat the Sheopur district of former Gwalior state was included in Madhya Bharat. Later it became a separate district after the reorganisation of Madhya Pradesh.As per Notification No. 1002/F/20-08-92/Sha. 8 M.P. dated 22nd May 1998, Sheopur, Karahal and Vijaypur tahsils were excluded from Morena district and a new district Sheopur was formed. Morena, Porsa, Ambah, Joura, Kailaras and Sabalgarh tahsil remained in Morena district.
During an excavation in the year 1927-28 in Kutwar village, a huge treasure chest of 18,659 bronze coins was found from which it can be firmly said that during the 3rd and 4th centuries this area was under the rule of Naga Kings. After the Nagas, Guptas, Hoons, Vardhans, Gurjaras, Pratihars, Chandellas and Kachchhapaghatas successfully ruled over this territory. Kirtiraja was the famous king of this dynasty, under whose period the temples of Sihonia were built. After the dynasty of Kachchhapaghatas clans of TomarRajputs etc. ruled over this region till 1526. After the hegemony of Mughals, during the period of the administrative reorganization of the district fell partly within the sarkars of Sheopur and Baroda Mahal, Ajmer suba of Ranthambhor Sarkar, AlapurMahal, Agra Subah of Gwalior Sarkar and Awantgarh and Vijepur Mahal Subah were under the rule of Mandal Sarkar, Remaining areas were included under Gwalior Sarkar.
Morena is a city in Morena district, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is governed by a municipality corporation. Located there are the administrative headquarters of the Morena district and of the Chambal division. It is 39 km from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Morena was once known for the terror of dacoits years ago. Bhind is separate city that Neighbors Morena. Morena is known as an industrial hub but the economy relies majorly on agriculture. Many manufacturing Industries are situated in the Industrial areas of Morena and Morena District.

350 वर्ष पुराना अटेर किला जिसके दरवाज़े से बहता था खून! Ater Fort Bhind History (in Hindi)
This video is based on my trip to Ater Fort(अटेर का किला/Ater ka kila) in which I have discussed about Ater Fort history in hindi. Ater Fort bhind is located in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, India and was constructed by Bhadauria King Badan Singh, Maha Singh and Bakhat Singh from the year 1664-1668 and on their name this the area is called “BHADAWAR”. It is situated deep inside the Chambal's ravines and now this fort is in a dilapidated condition. It is situated 35 Km away from the Bhind city and transportation is available from 6 Am to 4 Pm. You can reach Ater Fort by bus or jeep which can be easily accessible from the Bus stand/Ater Road. The main attractions of Ater fort are ‘Khooni Darwaza’, ‘Badan Singh Ka Mahal’, ‘Hathiapor’, ‘Raja Ka Bangla’, ‘Rani Ka Bangla’ and ‘Barah Khamba Mahal’.
Bhadawar was known to be an ancient Bhadravarta kingdom in the Mahabharata era. Mahat Kantar (Hatakant) Vindhyatvi (Ater) as well as Vindhyakanan (Bhind) are its historical witnesses. The Bhadravarta kingdom was known to be a prosperous republic in the Pandava period. The Kshatriyas used to be very rich resources here, the prince over here attended the Yudhishthra Yagna with a huge number of jewels and gold that were offered him a yagna. In the Gopal Tapini Upanishad of Atharvad, Bhadravan is also mentioned in Gopal’s favorite two bons which were located on the banks of the Yamuna river.
How to Reach Ater Fort by Air:
Ater fort is located 100 kms north-east of Gwalior city so Gwalior airport is the best place to land as its the best connectivity option to visit this fort. Flight connectivity of Gwalior is known to be very good so one can easily travel from metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata to explore this architectural marvel. Further journey from Gwalior to Ater Fort can be done by tourist cabs.
How to Reach Ater Fort by Train/ Railways:
In order to visit Ater Fort by train, the nearest railway station is Bhind railway station. It lies on Gwalior - Agra train route so all important trains traveling from South India towards Delhi or even from Central India to Delhi, passes through Bhind railway station. You just need to check whether your train has a stoppage at Bhind Station. As it is a small railway station, it is very much possible that some trains will not have stoppage here. In such a condition, tourists may consider stopping at Agra Cantt station or Gwalior station as the point for reaching Ater Fort by train and do the further journey by cab.
How to Reach Ater Fort by Bus / Cab:
Ater fort is situated on north-east of Gwalior and south-east of Agra city. One can easily travel by road from these cities.
