Porcia Market (Italy) Vlog | Nov 6
You can’t fully bathe in the glory of the European holiday season until you visit a market or two.
Porcia is one of the first places you’ll visit when you come to Aviano Air Base - it has one of the best markets, Conad, walking trails, and close to downtown Pordenone.
Mishka, Milan, Carter & I love to visit the markets when it’s open. Take a look!

Longobards in Italy, Places of Power - UNESCO World Heritage Site
This is an unusual UNESCO World Heritage site. The Longobards (or Lombards) were a Germanic tribe that ruled over much of Italy between the 6th and the 9th centuries. Not much remains of their time in power, aside from some scattered buildings, churches and temples. Come with me, as I explore several of these in northern and central Italy!

#PORDENONE | O encanto medieval friulano | Andiamo Itália!

According to some sources, the name of Percile derives from the name of the Roman gens Porcia.
In the gallery of Geographical Maps located in the Vatican museums, built between 1580 and 1585, in one of the two maps of Lazio, the town is indicated with the name of Porcile.
A marble stele of a girl aged about 7 remains as evidence of the Roman period, which monument also remembers various local characters.
After the classical Roman age that characterized the houses of Percile grouped in Villae and Pagus (agricultural mansions and romant towns), the inhabitants began to build houses around small churches and parishes.
However, the first certain information about the town are dated between 314 and 335 in the biography of San Silvestro I.
In the 10th century, castles were built around the town to help defend the surrounding towns.
From 1011 to 5 May 1275 various feudal vicissitudes followed one another.
Ottone Frangipane, count of Sabina, donated it to the Abbot of Farfa;
Later it passed to the Orsini family. In the 17th century it became a fief of the Borghese family.
In the 19th century, after the battle of Mentana, Garibaldians took refuge in Percile, as attested by the toponyms of streets.
The First World War was a hard time for the town; 27 soldiers from Percile died, while in the Second World War the town was bombed forcing the inhabitants to take shelter as best they could in caves and huts located near the town.
Today the town is considered one of the most beautiful in Lazio region.
