Information:
Pontian is a district in south-west of Johor region in Malaysia, the name of Pontian was transformed from a Malay word “Perhentian” which means a stop.
In the Johor History, usually sailors travelling to and from Singapore or Malacca will stop at Sungai Pontian Besar (Pontian River) for shelter from the rough waters the Straits of Malacca during the monsoon season.
It is also a home to the National Park of Tanjung Piai with beautiful mangroves which is a popular tourist attraction situated at the southernmost tip of Asia.
In today, the name Pontian is also used in the names of two towns in the district, Pontian Besar and Pontian Kechil, of which the latter serves as the district capital.
The capital was formerly a fishing village which has developed into a small town. It is considered as one of the seafood heaven noted for its huge variety of seafood which is sold at a reasonable price.
Besides, most of the visitors from neighbouring towns and Singapore regularly visit Kukup, a fishing village about 20 km from Pontian Kechil, and known as the seafood lover’s mecca.

Perjalanan: Jumaat lepas kerja, kami ambil flight malam, tidur di Hotel OYO di Kulai (worst hotel ever) tapi tak ambil video sbb kepenatan. Bayangkan:
1. Receptionist tak pandai ckp melayu, English pelat teruk sampai tak faham.
2. Tuala tak disediakan.
3. Lantai simen kotor& berpasir.
4. tiada tingkap langsung (kecuali di bilik air).
5. lampu meja ada tp tiada mentol.
6. cadar & selimut ada kesan tompok (tak basuh ke??)
7. TV + dekoder tp 1 soket. pasang TV, takde siaran. pasang dekoder, TV nak cucuk mana?
8. shower head tak lekat. bila adjust sikit terus tercabut. Mujur tak timpa kepala wife time dia mandi. mujur ada air panas...
Okey lah. pagi Sabtu check out, ambil motor, terus ke Pontian.. sempat ke beberapa tempat.
pagi Ahad, perjalanan kami dari Pontian Kechil - Kukup - tanjung Piai - Gunung Pulai - Pontian Kechil.. seharian berjalan.. patutnya Ahad dah check out, tapi kami extend penginapan sebab tak sangka banyak sangat tempat menarik di Pontian ni.. penginapan pun selesa, ada wifi..
pagi Isnin, checkout, pergi balik Tambak Pontian sbb hari jumaat tu sesak, makan asam pedas, kemudian singgah Stadium, hantar skuter & balik naik flight..

Finally had the opportunity to visit the wholesale fish market in Pontian during our Johor trip last November.
We arrived at around 830am and probably just missed the time where fishermen arrived with their fresh catch. There is a strong fishy smell in the market but thankfully our girl is ok with it. It was an eye opener as we saw so many different varieties of seafood.
Price is pretty attractive, and we decided to buy some. There is a stall (Ah Huat Kitchen - 亚发代炒) opposite the fish market where you can bring the seafood that you bought over to have them cooked for a fee (range about RM15-RM20) per dish.
We paid about RM115 for the seafood & RM55 for cooking fee and our early seafood lunch cost a total of RM170 (~RM52) including drinks!
We are not very good at picking seafood but the ones that was picked for us was fresh! We love the dishes cooked by Ah Huat Kitchen and had an enjoyable meal.
