Annecy is an alpine town in southeastern France, where Lake Annecy feeds into the Thiou River. It’s known for its Vieille Ville (old town), with cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses. The alley of Cats in Troyes in the department French of Dawn , is an alley that runs from Champeaux street to Charbonnet Street in the Bouchon de Champagne historic heart of the city of Troyes. Very narrow, it gives an idea of the cobbled medieval streets with a central channel for the flow of water. Rebuilt after the great fire of 1524 , the half-timbered and cantilevered houses widen in height. The floors overflow on the street to increase their surface: the tax was calculated on the surface on the ground . This alley owes its name to the fact that a cat can, indeed, pass from one side to the other of the street, while passing by the roofs. The facades touch from the top, and are held by props.
Once called Maillard alley from the xv th century, from 1460. At the entrance to the alley toward the street Champeaux was the bailiff of the priory of Saint-Jean-en-Châtel, belonging to the Saint-Pierre abbey of Montiéramey. At n os 32 and 36 of the current lane of Cats was the hotel of the family Lesguisé. In 1783 , it is given as cat street. In 1789 , an order enjoined to lay iron grilles at each end of the lane. These gates were closed at night, and open during the day.
In the 1960s , the alley of the Chats was threatened with extinction, like the rue de la Rothière, and Andre Malraux was alarmed 8 . The law bearing his name was adopted on August 4 , 1962.
At the corner of the Chats Lane, at the widening of the alley, is the Golden Mortar Court. In place of the old clinic Juvenal, now demolished, was planned in 2006 to rebuild a home in the spirit of the xvi th century and the construction of two timber framed houses begins in January 2014.
In the alley, a bookshop also hosts the first Human Rights Café opened by the French League for the Defense of Human and Citizen's Rights. The town of Troyes has been lit up since 1534, when the city council decides to light up during the fairs of Champagne, with tallow candles in lanterns; in 1766, the city has 150 public lanterns lit in winter on the main streets. The tallow gives his place oil around 1800, the gas and electricity in 1842 in the early twentieths.

Poissy is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Ile-de-France region of France.
The city has a long history. Chief town of Pincerais under the Merovingians, it later became one of the oldest royal cities of Île-de-France, birthplace of kings Louis IX and Philippe III, before being supplanted from the 15th century by Saint-Germain-en-Laye. It is also one of the first communes by a charter granted in 1200 by Philippe-Auguste and an important religious city until the Revolution with the convents of the Dominicans, the Capuchins and the Ursulines. Honfleur is a city in the department of Calvados, in northern France's Normandy region. It's on the estuary where the Seine river meets the English Channel. The Vieux-Bassin (old harbor), lined with 16th- to 18th-century townhouses, has been a subject for artists including Claude Monet and native son Eugène Boudin. Nearby is 15th-century St. Catherine's Church, a vaulted timber structure erected by shipbuilders.
Long a favourite with painters such as Monet, Normandy’s most charming port town is a popular day-trip destination for Parisian families. Though the centre can be overrun with visitors on warm weekends and in summer, it’s hard not to love the rugged maritime charm of the Vieux Bassin (old harbour), which evokes maritime Normandy of centuries past. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Honfleur was one of France’s most important ports for commerce and exploration. Some of the earliest French expeditions to Brazil and Newfoundland began here, and in 1608, Samuel de Champlain set sail from Honfleur to found Quebec City.
City of Art and History situated at the mouth of the Seine, Honfleur immediately enchants the visitors by revealing its charming fishing and sailing port, its old picturesque narrow streets, and its old timber-framed or slate-fronted houses. A magnificent collection of buildings that have inspired numerous painters. The Vieux Basin quays, surrounded by typical residences, as well as the beautiful narrow streets lined with art galleries and workshops, are a great place for a wander.
There's loads to discover! The Sainte-Catherine church is a magnificent wooden building of the 15th and 16th centuries. Opposite, the bell tower, which is curiously separated from the church, is home to religious objects. For those who love art, the Eugène-Boudin museum houses paintings and drawings collections of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Honfleur looks so utterly enchanting, it is hard to remember that it was built essentially for commerce. Its harbour sits in a great location, tucked away on the southern side of the Seine’s estuary. During the Hundred Years War, the French king had this strategic spot fortified, but that didn’t stop the English taking over for several decades.
Through the Ancien Régime, Honfleur’s shipowners made fortunes from trade, notably with North America. Samuel de Champlain, one of the most famous explorers associated with the port, headed off to found the Canadian city of Quebec. Lucrative lines for the Honfleur shipping magnates included not just cod-fishing off Newfoundland, but also the triangular slave trade.
With their fortunes, wealthy Honfleur families built their high-rise homes, packed tight next to each other, especially around the Vieux Bassin, the heart of the port, where a front-row home overlooking the vessels was a distinct privilege. Now, instead of receiving commercial ships, or fishing boats, which are kept out of the centre in larger docks, the Vieux Bassin attracts yachts. Shops fight for space behind the quays in this extraordinarily picturesque setting, while restaurants stretch their terraces across the cobbles.
The quarters on the different sides of the Vieux Bassin each have their distinctive character. The eastern Enclos, around the church of St-Etienne, is packed with interesting buildings.
