Trekking in Laos - 3 Day Hilltribes Trek near Phongsali, Laos.

Trekking in Laos - 3 Day Ethnic Hilltribe Trek near Phongsali, Laos.
This trek is one of my favorites. We were only a small group of 3 which turned out to be an ideal number. It was obvious that the locals had not seen too many white faces before. The first night was spent in a family home in an Akha Eupa village. The second night was spent in the headmans home in an Akha Loma village. The girls dressed up in the first few photos are Akha Mochi.
.The music is by Khan Khan with a song called DiDa made famous by the tv show Beijing Love Story.

10 Best Experiences in Laos according to Rough Guides

10 Best Experiences in Laos according to Rough Guides

10. Vieng Xai
Vieng Xai is a district and town in Hua Phan Province. The biggest attraction of the town is the caves. The former Pathet Lao Revolutionary headquarters of Vieng Xai sit in a striking valley of fertile hills and limestone cliffs riddled with caves, several of which were used to shelter PL officers during the second Indochina War.

9. Nam Ou
The Nam Ou is one of the most important rivers of Laos. It runs 448 km from Phongsaly Province to Luang Prabang Province. Along with the Mekong, the Nam Ou is the only natural channel suitable for large-draft boat transportation. Near its confluence with the Mekong are the Pak Ou Caves, famous for their Buddha statues.

8. Trekking
Rugged mountain forests set the scene for hikers seeking to explore the remote hill villages of the north.

7. Vang Vieng
Once little more than a bus stop on the long haul between Vientiane at the Thai border and the World Heritage Site of Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng has managed to become a destination in its own right and a popular stop on the unofficial Banana Pancake Trail. Still not much more than three streets and a bus station, the main attractions are the river, laid back countryside, and cave-filled rock formations.

6. Lao food
Lao cuisine is the cuisine of Laos, which is distinct from other Southeast Asian cuisines. The staple food of the Lao is steamed sticky rice, which is eaten by hand. In fact, the Lao eat more sticky rice than any other people in the world. Galangal, lemongrass and padaek (Lao fish sauce) are important ingredients.

5. Luang Prabang
Set at the confluence of two rivers that almost surround the town, and beneath a temple-topped hill, Luang Prabang is a wonderful patchwork of traditional Lao wooden houses and hints of European architecture, reminders of when Laos was part of the French colony of Indochine.

4. Waterfalls of the Bolaven Plateau
The Bolaven Plateau is an elevated region in southern Laos. The plateau is crossed by several rivers and has many scenic waterfalls. The name Bolaven makes reference to the Laven ethnic group which has historically dominated the region. The most popular places visited by tourists are the waterfalls in the region, the villages of the ethnic minorities, and other geopolitical areas of interest.

3. Plain of Jars
The Plain of Jars is a megalithic archaeological landscape in Laos. These stone jars appear in clusters, ranging from a single or a few to several hundred jars at lower foothills surrounding the central plain and upland valleys. The Plain of Jars is dated to the Iron Age (500 BC to AD 500) and is one of the most important sites for studying Southeast Asian prehistory.

2. Phongsali
It is the northernmost among provincial capitals in Laos opposite Attapeu in the south. In the centre of the town are houses built in Yunnanese style with ornate wooden fronts. A 400-year-old tea plantation is located about 18 kilometers away in the village of Ban Koma, which according to some tea experts has some of the oldest tea trees in the world.

1. A slow boat down the Mekong
The lifeline of this landlocked nation, the Mekong figures in every visit to Laos, supplying the fish for dinner, a stunning array of sunsets and a route to travel along.

CRAZY CHEAP $0.70 Breakfast In Northern Lao Market | Phongsaly 🇱🇦

We found the cheapest bowl of noodles in all Laos here in Phongsaly Market at a whopping $0.70 a bowl!!

This video we headed to the local market here in Phongsaly to have a look around and try some local foods and snacks. On the way we came across somebody's House and they were selling all kinds of local products from here in Northern Laos including phongsaly Green Lao whiskey, dried gooseberrys, phongsali green tea and also gooseberry wine!

We saw lots of lady's on the way to the market wearing their ethnic Hill tribe clothing which was so interesting, as soon as we arrived we grabbed a bag of tasty fried snacks for breakfast which really hit the spot.

Soon as we entered the market we found a young lady selling typical lao sweets for only 1000 Lao kip each like £0.05 so we tried a little selection.

Now the star of the show in this market we found the cheapest bowl of noodles in all Laos at only 12,000 laos kip each bowl!! That is ridiculous only $0.70 they were so delicious I had the khao piak gai and Alicia had a pho.

I think the Phongsaly Market here in extreme northern Laos might be the most peaceful market in all southeast Asia its so quiet and organised. We tried some more sweets which I can't say I enjoyed too much before heading back to town for a coffee in the local coffee shop.

The HIGHEST City In Laos | PHONGSALY 🇱🇦

The Final video of our Phongsaly series here in Laos started with eating some delicious Yunnanese Chinese style noodles which were so strange but quite tasty for 20,000 laos kip.

We took a little walk through the Chinese Old quarter again to show how beautiful this place is, it's like going back in time. When we reached the upper lake here in Phongsaly I was just taken back by how stunning this place really is.

The sun started to set so we decided to climb the highest hill in Phongsaly, Mount Phoufa at a height of 1600 metres high. The walk up through the jungle was a little difficult in the heat but boy was it worth it.

At the top we reached a small temple and a Viewpoint over the entire city of Phongsaly and surrounding mountains. It was seriously one of the most incredible views I have seen in Southeast Asia.

While at the top we tried some of the green lao whiskey that is famous here in Phongsaly, this stuff was so so strong and knocked my socks off.

Phongsaly is the most beautiful place in all Laos, and being so hard to reach its no wonder tourists do not visit. This is the final frontier of Laos for sure 🇱🇦

Breakfast in Bountai - Phongsali Province, Northern Laos

Breakfast at the one sit-down restaurant at the Bountai Market, whose menu was very limit and as a result both our prior day's lunch and breakfast consisted of an order of khao piak, the Lao version of pho with pork as the protein of choice. For both meals, we sat at the same table located in the cantilevered patio portion of the restaurant that, for breakfast, afforded a view of the Nam Leng River below and the Road #1B bridge that spans it in the upstream direction backed by wooded hills shrouded in a veil of fog, with the meal accompanied by the sounds of passing morning traffic, crowing roosters and Lao pop music playing in the background. My steaming bowl of khao piak and mug of hot green tea really hit the spot on that cool, misty morning, with the khao piak being very tasty (saep der!) and a good way to start what would be a long day involving walking tours of three ethnic minority villages and over 7 hours on at time windy and very rough roads en route to Phongsali.

Eventful bus journey to Phongsali Laos.

Two Beautiful Caves in Vang Vieng | Laos 2023

Welcome~
In this video, we are visiting two places that are near each other: Angel Cave and Poukham Cave. They are both in Vang Vieng, Laos. We didn't spend a lot of time here, so we only explored the caves themselves, but the parks were cool nonetheless. They had other activities such as zip lining through the forest, kayaking in the river, having fun in the Blue Lagoon, etc.
Oh and did we mention eating squirmy things? Ew! Not live ones though haha. Fried ones aren't bad actually.
Enjoy!
