Driving Around Beautiful Pewaukee, Wisconsin in 4k Video
Filmed on Sunday, May 28 2023, I drive around Pewaukee, WI to see what's going on.
The name Pewaukee is derived from the Potawatomi Native American language. The meaning of the name is unclear - it is said to mean either lake of shells or water good for boiling.
The name reflects the area's natural features and its proximity to Pewaukee Lake, one of the largest lakes in Waukesha County.
Pewaukee's history is closely tied to its location along Pewaukee Lake. In the 19th century, the lake and its surrounding area attracted settlers who saw its potential for farming, fishing, and recreation.
Pewaukee's downtown area has a charming and historic character. It features a variety of local businesses, including shops, restaurants, and boutiques. The downtown area has undergone revitalization efforts to preserve its historical significance while offering modern amenities and a vibrant atmosphere.
Pewaukee has experienced significant growth and development over the years. It has attracted residential and commercial investment, leading to the expansion of housing options, shopping centers, and business districts. The city's proximity to Milwaukee has also made it an attractive place to live for those seeking a suburban lifestyle with easy access to urban amenities.
Pewaukee is the world headquarters of Harken, Inc., a manufacturer of sailboat and yacht gear sold worldwide, especially in the racing segment.
As of the census of 2020, there were 15,914 people residing in the city, up from 13,195 in 2010.
The racial makeup of the city was 94.3% White, 1.1% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.6% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.
The median household income was $110,269 and the per capita income was $57,446. 2.3% of the population was living below the poverty line.

Town of Brookfield | S34 Ep. 12
Town of Brookfield
Shopping, dining, entertainment and custard. On top of that… how about a short commute? The Town of Brookfield is one of Wisconsin’s top shopping, dining and entertainment destinations. But more than that, it’s a community that you’ll instantly feel a part of, and located just west of Milwaukee. In this episode of Discover Wisconsin, hosts Alex Wehrley and Eric Paulsen show us around their home turf in the Town of Brookfield!
We start our day at The Corners of Brookfield where Eric chats with Elizabeth Clappier on what makes The Corners a fantastic and beloved community space and entertainment destination. This space, that feels more like a city within a town, is home to shops all the best national retailers, unique local boutiques, and food for every craving. The European theme helps make the complex feel familiar yet distinctive… or as they say, where local meets luxury. Some major events year-round at The Corners include ice bars, beer gardens, movie nights, car shows, live music, sports games on the big outdoor screens, basically anything desirable from kids to adults, to even your furry friends. Find upcoming events or your new favorite shops here:
As far as shopping, Alex shows us around some of her personal favorites, not to mention fantastic places to find that perfect, trendy and one-of-a-kind finds that make ideal gifts for anyone on your list, even yourself! Who wouldn’t want a stone brandy pour stand that’s decorative and functional? Some stores featured include: Fresh Baked Café, Argosy Limited, Chicos, Twigs, and Kendra Scott.
To feed your brunch craving, join Eric as he checks out hot-spot, Mimosa. Owner Apostoli Everniadis even shares his secret for why Mimosa is such a sought-after foodie destination. A traditional Wisconsin breakfast place, but with a twist. Everything they make just a little bit different, a little more from scratch, a little more local, more organic. Mimosa takes pride in these efforts as “something we have promised our guests, and our team, and our community, to be doing differently for the rest of our lives as a restaurant.” Did you know Mimosa was not named after the bubbly drink? Talk about a twist! (jump to minute 11 to find out what cultural item was their inspiration). Swing by for a bubbly drink of your own:
What’s a weekend getaway without stopping for an iconic Wisconsin treat? Yes, we’re talking frozen custard, and one of the best places to get it than Oscar’s. Jim and Susie Taylor reveal a little bit of the iconic destination’s history since the 1984 opening, and how this family establishment continues to evolve with the newest generations. Salivate over the flavor of the day here:
As if these weren’t enough to fill your weekend, the Town of Brookfield has much more to offer, such as their kickoff to autumn in their must-see ‘Brooktoberfest’ celebration, where local breweries take their spotlight. Or their homage to our small companions in the Dog Dash Discover 5K. There’s always something going on in the Town of Brookfield, check out upcoming events and plan your next favorite shopping getaway today:

----------
Between one lease ending and a new one beginning, I'm home in Wisconsin for a week to see my family. If you've been around for a while, you know my dad is my biggest hype man, so we decided to take a walk through one of the local parks.
Retzer Nature Center is made up of 335 acres of land, from forests to prairies to streams and scenic overlooks. There are 6 different trails (we mostly stayed on green, blue, and purple) you can explore, and there are parts of paths that are fully accessible. There's also a planetarium and learning center, and I remember field trips here as a kid.
I arrive in Seattle next week, so you'll be seeing those walks very soon!
