Historic Philadelphia: Top 15 Things to See In 1 Day!
I haven't visited historic Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, since I was a kid but this time I brought along my youngest niece. If you love American history, this is a must-do trip. One of the great things about visiting historic Philadelphia is that all of the main attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. We visited Independence Hall (my favorite because the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed here), the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin's Grave in Christ Church Burial Ground, the Philadelphia Mint (my niece's favorite because you can see the coins being minted), the President's House (America's first White House), the National Constitution Center (where original copies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are held), the Betsy Ross House (where seamstress Betsy Ross allegedly sewed the first American flag), and more!

The Mutter Museum is the finest example of medical history on display. If you aren’t easily grossed out, you can see Albert Einstein’s brain, a 40-lb colon, and actual pressured human faces. The museum helps the public understand the mysteries and beauty of the human body and to appreciate the history of diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Elfreth’s alley is 300 years of history all in one street. This street actually wasn’t included in the original plans for the city but was instead created as a cart path for merchants to travel as Philly began to grow. It became a national landmark in the 1960s and is now kind of an outdoor museum.
Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is the brain child of Isaiah Zagar and is a non-profit museum highlighting the influences of his life. Magic Gardens inspires creativity and community engagement by educating the public about folk, mosaic, and visionary art.
Candytopia is the closest thing to what's it's like to visit Willy Wonka's factory. The Philadelphia location is one of three locations in the U.S. Tickets can be purchased through their website.
Philly has a number of great piers and waterfront attractions down by the Delaware River. Race Track Pier, Blue Cross RiverRink, Spruce Street Harbor Park, and Cherry Street Pier highlight the best spots near Penn's Landing. Visit Philly's webpage for more information.
