Tiger Nest Bhutan – Trekking to Bhutan’s spectacular Monastery | Travelling in Bhutan | Bhutan

This is second video of my Bhutan trip, It's about my trek to Paro Taktsang / Tiger Nest.
Paro Taktsang also known as Tiger’s nest most famous attractions in Bhutan.
The monastery is located 10km to the north of Paro and hangs on cliff at more than 3000 meters (10,000 feet above sea level). The rock slopes are very steep almost vertical, and the monastery buildings are built into the rock face.
Plan your trek as early as possible in the morning to enjoy the perfect weather.
During 5-6km trek you will find a small café midway where you can relax and have some food (there are no other shops in between).
You must pay 500 Indian Currency or Bhutan currency for Tiger’s nest trek, they will provide you small locker at temple and guide who will give you full information and history of monastery.
The small cliffside monastery known as the Tiger's Nest is said to be the meditation site of an eighth-century Buddhist master.
A temple complex was first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for Four Months in the 8th century.
He flew to this place from Tibet on the back of Yeshe Tsogyal, whom he transformed into a flying tigress for the purpose and landed at the cliff, which he anointed as the place for building a monastery. He established Buddhism and the Nyingmapa school of Mahayana Buddhism in Bhutan, and has been considered the “protector saint of Bhutan”.
On April 19, 1998, a fire broke out in the main building of the monastery complex, which contained valuable paintings, artefacts and statues. The fire is believed to have been caused by electrical short-circuiting or flickering butter lamps lighting the hanging tapestries.

Passing Through Dungsam Dewathang Highway In Eastern Bhutan

I was on the way to Samdrup Jongkhar during my Holidays. I couldn’t go to the main town of Dungsam Deothang.

In the past and even today, the districts of Pemagatshel and Samdrup Jongkhar are commonly referred to as Dungsam. Dungsam consists of five popular villages: Dungsam Dewathang, Dungsam Nganglam, Dungsam Dechheling, Dungsam Khar, and Dungsam Khoi Dung. Pemagathsel has three hills that are shaped like conches, and the name Dungsam comes from these three hills. The word dungkar in the Sharchop dialect means conch, and dung is the shortened form. Sam means three, so Dungsam means three conches in literal terms.

Dungsam Dewathang is a town situated in the southeastern part of Bhutan, near the Indian border. It is one of the five prominent villages in the Dungsam region that encompasses the districts of Pemagatshel and Samdrup Jongkhar. The town is a significant commercial and industrial hub in the region, and it is also home to essential institutions, such as a hospital, a high school, and The Jigme Namgyel Engineering College. The college is a renowned institution in Bhutan, providing quality engineering education to students. Additionally, Dungsam Dewathang boasts stunning landscapes, including lush green forests, rivers, and hills, making it a popular tourist destination. Overall, Dungsam Dewathang is a vibrant and essential town in Bhutan's Dungsam region.

Jimilangtsho Lake Hike ,Bhutan (4K).

Jimilangtsho Lake Hike, Bhutan.
The hike to Jimi Langtsho Lake starts from Tshaluna Lhakhang which is the last road point of the hike. It takes between (2-2.5 hours) to the first meadow where most of the hikers takes a break and rest before heading further. The hike till this point is a gentle climb all along the small stream which flows all the way from Jimilangtsho Lake.

There are two routes to the second meadow from this meadow:
A. First route to the second Meadow.
This one is to the left which leads you to the small stream below the meadow. If you take this route one has to cross the stream at the second meadow which is seen in this video. We took this particular way till the second meadow. Upon reaching reaching second meadow there is no alternative rather than crossing the stream to get on the right side of the stream by removing your shoes. It was a great outdoor experience while crossing this stream and there is nothing to worry as the stream is small unless there is a heavy rain on the upper valleys.

B.Second route to the second Meadow.(Recommended route)
The other one is on the right side whereby one has to hike uphill for few minutes through the cow herders shed and take left which will lead you straight to the second meadow. If you take this route, there is no need to cross the stream as you will be on the right bank upon reaching second meadow. This is the preferred route but many are unaware of its existence. We came through this route while returning from the Lake and its a better route than the first one.

It takes about 45-60 minutes from first meadow to the second meadow where the route is all along the small stream. The fun doesn't end there and right after crossing the first wooden bridge one has to again cross a smaller stream compared to the first one.

Then comes the second wooden bridge which is last bridge to the Lake and it will take you on the left bank of the stream. It is about 40 minutes from second meadow to this wooden bridge. After crossing the bridge, Its about 30 minutes uphill climb from this point till the waterfall.

One can spot Yellow Poppy (Meconopsis Paniculata) on the way to the waterfall. This is also one of the rare flower and can be seen only in few places in Bhutan including Nubtshonapata Trekking route. The flower can be witnessed in the months between June-Early August.

After crossing waterfall it takes only about 20 minutes to the mighty Jimilangtsho lake.
our group made it to the lake in six hours from Tshaluna lhakhang covering a distance of 10.80 KM but it is possible to make it between 4-5 hours depending upon how fast you can walk and the resting hours you enjoy on the hike.

It is one of the largest lake in Bhutan. The lake is surrounded by small shrubs in all three sides except the north bank. There is also a small cave at the left end of the lake where one can seek cover from rain and sun. The best view is from the North bank where one can get the view of the entire lake.

Hike Distance from Tshaluna Lhakhang to Jimilangtsho Lake : 10.80 KM
Total Distance To & Fro : 22 KM

Hike duration from Tshaluna Lhakhang to Jimilangtsho Lake: between 4- 6 hours depending how fast you hike and the resting duration you take.
Total Duration : 8-12 hours (To & Fro).

Monsoon, Moons and Magic | Rainy Days and Summer Eats in Bhutan

Along with the pleasant heat, summer in the Himalayas also brings in the occasional monsoon rains, spectacular clouds, stunning skies and moonrises that are simply magical.

What better way to embrace the unpredictable weather than to go on short walks around Thimphu and find refuge in its many cafes and restaurants once the skies unleash some rain. I once believed that autumn is my favorite season in Bhutan, until spring came. Then summer too, has its magic and charm that is simply hard to fold away with the umbrella.
