10 Best places to visit in INDIA this July | Monsoon | best places in INDIA | the traveller guy
With the monsoon picking up pace, most people plan to curl up in their bed with a good book and a hot steaming cup of coffee; cringing at the mere thought of traveling in the rains. But for most wanderlust bitten travellers like us, here are some amazing places to visit in July
1. Shillong, Meghalaya
Known as the “Scotland of the East” because of the rolling hills and peaks around the town, Shillong during monsoons is a great place to be visited as it sees plenty of rainfall and less of tourists which makes it a perfect time to visit. The lush misty hills, high waterfalls and brimming lakes are a must see and the fact that it situated far away from the bustling city has made it retain its charm.
2. Orchha, Madhya Pradesh
The city of historic palaces and temples nestled between forests and vegetation livens up in monsoons. The rains give it a rustic charm. The Betwa river is one of the important rivers in Madhya Pradesh, has seven streams converging at Orchha which makes it a sight to watch. By and large, Madhya Pradesh receives less rainfall and seldom ferocious one, making Orchha an ideal destination to head during monsoons.
3. Goa
Goa in monsoons has much to offer than just its beaches. The rain is refreshing and splashes nature’s colors over the state. Goa has a lot of wildlife sanctuaries of which Mollem National Park and Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuaries are particularly favored during monsoons. The magnificent Dudhsagar Falls located near the Mollem National Park is at its best during the monsoons. A quiet boat cruise along the Mandovi River is another thing you could do here. July being an off season, the rates are pretty cheap however most of the beach shacks and water activities may be closed.
4. Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh
Practically built over five hills, what better place to visit in monsoons than this? Dalhousie in July receives mild rainfalls which makes this place rather pleasant. Apart from the inviting lush greenery around, it even has many adventure sporting activities to boast. Scenic beauty at its best, Dalhousie isn’t one to disappoint during monsoons.
5. Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
A place of mountain routes and beautiful monasteries, solitude is best attained here. With little rainfalls, splendid Pangong Lake, rugged mountain ranges and picturesque Nubra valley and a motorcycle and you’re set for enriching ride. June- September is a peak season here in Ladakh but you could beat most of the crowd if you plan a trip through Leh.
6. Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand
Name any difficult to pronounce flower and chances are you’ll find it here. The Valley of Flowers in July is carpeted by a wide range of flowers and many exotic ones too; Wild roses, blue corydalis, saxifrage, geraniums to name a few. July is easily the best time to visit Valley of Flowers with large sprawl of nature
7. Mount Abu, Rajasthan
The only hill station in Rajasthan, Mount Abu enjoys most of the little rainfall that happens in Rajasthan. The diverse flora and majestic mountains pull people to this quaint little hill station. Also rich in history and architecture, there are glorious ancient buildings you can’t get enough of. Visiting Mount Abu in July is going to be an experience you won’t forget easily.
8. Coorg, Karnataka
Karnataka’s own little paradise, Coorg is beautiful no matter what time of the year. However, Coorg is prettiest during the monsoons. Between July-September, the mountains and valleys cover themselves with various shades of green and little sprouts of vibrant colors of the flowers soothes the eyes from the rather harsh summer. Take a walk in the rain through the valleys or just watch the mountains play Hide n’ Seek in the mists.
9. Udaipur, Rajasthan
Rajasthan receives one of the lowest rainfalls in the country, making it an ideal destination to visit during monsoons with just enough rains for a pleasant climate and easy travel. Udaipur is one of the popular places to visit in Rajasthan during monsoons. Udaipur, the city of lakes, has been regarded as one of the most romantic destinations in India and imagine the romance that’s possible during the rains. Sajjan Garh, a palace situated 1100 ft. high above the surrounding and 3100 ft. from sea level.
10. Kerala
Saving the best for the last, Kerala is a paradise in the monsoons. Kochi, Kovalam, Kozhikode are some of the beautiful places in Kerala. Lush green, fresh and rejuvenating, the rains literally brings the city bursting with life. Be it the rice boat cruises in the backwaters or relaxing at one of the many Ayurvedic spas
These were the more popular places however if you’re looking for some offbeat places to visit, then the following list would interest you more.
11. Jog Falls, Karnataka
12. Nubra Valley, Ladakh
13. West Sikkim
14. Khandala, Maharashtra
15. Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
16. Amarnath, Jammu and Kashmir
17. Konkan Railways

Beginner's Guide to India
In this guide to India for beginners, Wild Frontiers founder Jonny Bealby talks about two perfect destinations for the first-time visitor - Rajasthan and Kerala.
Rajasthan, Delhi and the Taj Mahal
Dealing with Rajasthan first, there are very good reasons why over half of all first timers travel here. Firstly it's close to Delhi where there are excellent flight connections and which is itself a fascinating city. A veritable tale of two cities Delhi combines the busy hustle bustle of the dramatic Moghul Old Town -- with its narrow alleys, its markets and mosques - with the sublime New Town, where quiet parks and tree lined avenues are peppered by some of the country's most magnificent architecture. From here you can travel easily, either by car or train, down to Agra where most go to visit the essential and truly amazing Taj Mahal.
And from here, either travelling via the tiger park at Ranthambore -- which does offer one of the best chances in the world to see a tiger in the wild -- making up the third stop in the triangle, there's the quintessential Rajput town of Jaipur with its bustling bazaar, its famous palace of the winds and the nearby Amber Fort. And that in itself makes a 7 to 10 day holiday.
But if you have a bit more time and want to scratch a little deeper into what is arguable India's most colourful state, from here there are a number of other routings that can take you to some of the Rajasthan's more wonderful offbeat converted Rajput palace hotels. Right now I'm at just such a place, called Castle Bijaipur, from which you can ride the Marwari Horses, go for bicycling rides or just enjoy a bit of relaxation by the pool. There are many such properties in this part of India which you can mix up with other famous towns like Pushkar, Bundi or Jodhpur.
And a great place to finish your trip to Rajasthan is the lake city of Udaipur. Sitting on the banks of the beautiful Lake Picola, Udaipur is a stunning place, packed with impressive palaces, temples and shops; it's easy to navigate and walk around and is often referred to as the Venice of the East. Not only is this one of my favourite towns in India it also has very convenient flight connections back to London, meaning you can spend your last night here -- having dinner at one of the wonderful rooftop restaurant -- and bounce through Delhi without being forced to spend an extra night there.
VTC: Rajasthan is India's most colourful state, it has most of the country's must see attractions, and some of her best hotels.
If you like to travel in a small group our Taj, Temples and Tigers would tick all these boxes as would our India in Slow Motion if you like your travels a bit more off the beaten track; And if you like to travel privately give us a call and one of our expert travel planners will be happy to help design a trip especially for you.
Kerala and the South
However, if something else, perhaps a little less frenetic appeals, then why not head south to the beautiful state of Kerala, which is where I am now.
Kerala is a stunning state situated at the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent and if Rajasthan and the north represents and great place for travel, Kerala, with its beautiful beaches, its temple culture and its meandering backwater cruises, offers the chance to truly relax and enjoy a more traditional holiday.
A great routing here is to fly in to Bangalore, drive down through Mysore -- with its colourful market and immense palace -- to the beach. There are a number of fabulous properties dotted up and down the coast, and in my option none is more special that Neeleshwar Hermitage. Here you can relax, walk along the beach, enjoy truly delicious cuisine and take a backwater cruise.
Using these old converted rice barges to float through the tranquil back water canals is a quintessential part of a trip to the south. And from here you can continue down the coast to another of my favourite towns, Cochin, a place that hasn't changed much from when my mother lived here as a small girl. This route makes for a perfect 10 day holiday, but if you have a bit more time and want to turn your holiday into more of a travelling experience, you can head up to the hill stations of Ooti and Munnar and on into temple filled Tamil Nadu.
Rajasthan and Kerala are the ideal locations for the inquisitive traveller coming to India for the first time. We have a number of small group departures for those that don't wish to travel alone, and a team of experts back in London to help those of you looking for a tailored experience ready to help you create your ideal trip.

Imagine a place where myths come alive, and every step you take feels like a leap into the pages of ancient legends. That's Panch Kedar for you – a sacred pilgrimage circuit that winds its way through five mystical temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation. But don't let the word destruction scare you off – in Hindu mythology, Shiva's destruction is actually a cosmic dance of creation and renewal!
Meet the Fabulous Five:
Kedarnath: Where the Earth Meets the Divine
Our journey begins at Kedarnath, a place so holy that even the rocks seem to hum with the energy of ancient prayers. Here, amidst the snow-capped peaks and swirling mists, stands the legendary Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva in his most fearsome form. Legend has it that this is where Shiva sought refuge from the Pandavas after the great war of Mahabharata, and boy, does it show!
Tungnath: The Highest Shiva Temple in the World
Next up, we have Tungnath – a hidden gem tucked away amidst the clouds, waiting to be discovered by intrepid travelers like you! Situated at an altitude of over 12,000 feet, Tungnath boasts the title of the highest Shiva temple in the world. It's a place where nature's beauty and divine presence intertwine in a dance of cosmic proportions!
Madhyamaheshwar: A Sanctuary of Serenity
Our next stop takes us to Madhyamaheshwar – a sanctuary of serenity amidst the chaos of the world. Here, amidst the whispering pines and gurgling streams, stands a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in his most tranquil form. Legend has it that the navel of Shiva appeared here, making it a place of profound significance for seekers on the path to inner peace and enlightenment.
Kalpeshwar: Where Dreams Take Flight
Last but certainly not least, we have Kalpeshwar – a place where dreams take flight and miracles are born. Nestled amidst towering peaks and swirling mists, Kalpeshwar is the abode of Shiva in his matted hair form. It's a place where time seems to stand still, and the only thing that matters is the boundless love and grace that surrounds you.

MOST POPULAR MELBOURNE IS A GOOD PLACE TO VISIT

10 BEST ATTRACTIONS OF MELBOURNE
Affectionately called Marvellous Melbourne during the gold rush of the 1850s, the name is still used today for Australia's second largest city. Located on the banks of the Yarra River, near the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne is a modern metropolis steeped in history. Melbourne is a city for all seasons. From wandering the hidden laneways and grand tree-lined streets to the acres of city gardens and parklands surrounding the CBD, Melbourne is vibrant, elegant, and multicultural. So let’s have a small visit of it.
• Yarra River Cruise
A river boat cruise is not only the perfect way to see the sights, it's also an insight into the history of the Yarra River. Many cruise companies can be found along Southbank and take in places such as Birrarung Marr, originally called Birrarung meaning river of mists and shadows, a parkland celebrating the Aboriginal ties with the Yarra River. Another popular cruise goes across to historic Williamstown where visitors can spend time exploring this quaint seaside port.
• Docklands
Docklands is Melbourne's newest precinct. With the highest concentration of green-star rated buildings in the southern hemisphere, the waterfront satellite village is filled with cafés, restaurants, and parklands. The view from the giant observation wheel, The Melbourne Star is spectacular, and the area also houses Etihad Stadium and the Icehouse, a world-class ice sports venue. There is also an art and vintage market held along the waterfront every Sunday.
• Queen Victoria Market
A popular place with locals and tourists, this historic icon has been at the centre of fresh produce shopping since 1878. In addition to the magnificent food halls, market stalls sell everything from clothing, art, and toys to that hard-to-find unique souvenir, five days a week. Tours are available, and special events such as night markets, music concerts, and other functions are often held during summer.
• Melbourne Zoo
Although the 22 hectares of Melbourne Zoo dates back to 1862, the 320 species of animals have the best of modern facilities in state-of-the-art enclosures. The award-winning Trail of the Elephants is an insight into the lives of the resident Asian elephants in a traditional village-garden setting. Another highlight is the Orang-utan Sanctuary where the animals live in their treetop home. With many wild encounters including roar and snore, twilight music concerts, and behind-the-scene tours of some enclosures, Melbourne Zoo offers visitors many innovative experiences.
• Melbourne Museum and Royal Exhibition Building
A short tram ride from the CBD, the Melbourne Museum is surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland. This modern purpose-built museum houses a diverse collection depicting society and cultures. Highlights include the Aboriginal Centre, Bunjilaka, the children's museum, and The Blue Box a cube protruding off the side of the building. The gallery is a series of hands-on activities designed to stimulate and engage children. Adjacent to the Melbourne Museum is the elaborate Royal Exhibition Building. Built in 1880 to host Melbourne's International Exhibition, the building also held the first Commonwealth Parliament of Australia in 1901. Regular tours are available and the building is still used for exhibitions and special events.
• Arcades and Laneways
Wandering the labyrinth of lane and alleyways around Flinders, Collins, and Bourke Streets is elegant, interesting, and quirky Melbourne at its best. The jewel in the crown is the magnificent Block Arcade in Collins Street. With its mosaic floor, period details, and unique shops, this is the place where late 19th-century gentry promenaded, coining the phrase, doing the block. It's worth queuing for a morning or afternoon tea at the Hopetoun Tearooms. This Melbourne icon dates back to 1892 and is the only original shop still in the arcade today. The opulent Royal Arcade is Melbourne's oldest arcade and Flinders and Degraves Lanes are also well worth exploring. Several companies run guided walking tours of the lanes and alleyways.

But for most wanderlust bitten travellers like us, here are some of the best places to visit in July and check off your travel list. What's more, most places in India have incredibly slashed prices in monsoons!
Lakshadweep, a tropical archipelago off India's southwestern coast, showcases a blend of cerulean waters and vibrant marine life in July, despite the sporadic monsoon showers. The lagoons become a snorkeler's paradise, with the clear waters revealing a mesmerizing underwater world of colorful corals and exotic fish. While the beaches, especially those of Agatti and Bangaram, remain idyllic for leisurely strolls and witnessing dramatic monsoon skies, the local cuisine, with its fresh seafood delights, becomes an indulgent treat for the senses amidst the rain-kissed ambiance.
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is enveloped in monsoon mists in July, offering a dreamy panorama of the Eastern Himalayas. The serene Enchey Monastery becomes a place of reflection, its vibrant prayer flags fluttering against the backdrop of rain-soaked forests and mountains. While the Teesta River gushes with renewed force, the bustling MG Road market remains vibrant, inviting travelers to savor local Sikkimese delicacies and shop for traditional handicrafts amidst the cool embrace of the monsoon.
Gulmarg, a gem in Jammu and Kashmir's crown, unveils lush green meadows dotted with colorful wildflowers in July. The famous Gondola ride, one of the highest in the world, offers breathtaking views of the verdant landscapes below and the snow-capped peaks in the distance. While the golf course, one of the largest in India, beckons enthusiasts with its pristine setting, trekkers often take to the meandering trails, finding solace amidst the alpine beauty and the gentle hum of the monsoon breeze.
Tawang, perched high in the Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh, presents a mesmerizing fusion of cascading waterfalls and mist-laden mountains in July. The revered Tawang Monastery, one of the largest in India, offers not only spiritual solace but also a panoramic view of the town, especially enchanting as the monsoon clouds dance around the peaks. While Sela Pass might be challenging due to the rains, the vibrant prayer flags fluttering against the backdrop of rain-fed landscapes encapsulate the ethereal beauty and spirituality of Tawang during this month.
