This medieval monument, dating from the 17th century. XII, is located on the flanks of a huge and steep granite cliff, from where it is possible to see a beautiful panorama that encompasses the Cabreira and Gerês mountains, and the Ave and Cávado valleys.
Next to the castle, in Serra do Pilar, we find Castelo Restaurante, where we can taste the best of traditional Portuguese cuisine. On its terrace, untouchable in its welcoming atmosphere and the authentic dishes served there, the icing on the cake is the view!
Never forgotten in time, the Castle of Povoa de Lanhoso is without a shadow of a doubt a mandatory stop for lovers of fantastic views, history, gastronomy and leisure.

O Monte do Pilar é um esporão granítico de grande interesse geológico, sendo o maior monólito granítico da Península Ibérica. Este é um dos pontos principais de atração turística do concelho porque, para além das magníficas paisagens, permite a prática de atividades ao ar livre como o rappel ou a via ferratta.
O Castelo de Lanhoso é, ainda hoje a principal referência monumental e patrimonial do concelho da Póvoa de Lanhoso, assumindo-se como o elemento catalisador e congregador de toda uma comunidade com séculos de história comum.
Se a instituição do próprio concelho, por D. Dinis, em Carta de Foral datada de 25 de Setembro de 1292, está intimamente associada (entre outras razões politicamente mais estratégicas) à necessidade local de preservar e manter o Castelo de Lanhoso, designadamente passada a eficácia militar destes baluartes bélicos, e quando o controlo das vias de comunicação também tem que ser feito noutra dimensão que não puramente defensivo, não deixa de relevar a sua importância, aliás atestada por episódios e registos documentais significativos.

Stronghold of Christian Conquer, Lanhoso Castle stands out as the main historical reference of Póvoa de Lanhoso region. It is placed upon Portugal’s greatest granitic stele, surrounded by Cávado and Ave rivers. Its origins go back to the Pre-Roman period, preserving some quite unique vestiges of this time. The elliptical barbican wall is surrounded by battlements and the access to the stone stairs is engraved in the stone. The 13th century 10m high keep is particularly striking. The main door, surrounded by two towers, has a segmental arch, resembling the typical defensive solutions that were used in construction during the Gothic period.

🇵🇹 DiverLanhoso Adventure Park | 38 Suspension Bridges in Póvoa de Lanhoso
We are going on an adventure in DiverLanhoso Adventure Park as we go through 38 suspension bridges. DiverLanhoso is located close to the Peneda-Gerês National Park and it has 170 hectares of green space.
Known for being one of the most important activities in DiverLanhoso, Suspension Bridges is an activity that guarantees the symbiosis between you and Nature.
The 38-bridge course features a number of challenges, such as riding a rope, skirting a mushroom-shaped rock 25 meters from the ground, or going through tunnels 10 meters high, among many other challenges full of adrenaline.
This is an unforgettable adventure!
