A touristic walk in Grave (Netherlands, on Meuse)
Grave received city rights in 1233. The former municipality of Grave was formed in the Napoleonic era (1810) and coincided with the fortified Grave and immediate surroundings. The history of the town was thus linked to that of the place.
This changed in 1942. Then there was a reclassification place where the municipality Grave was expanded with the previously independent municipalities Velp and Escharen. Moreover, in 1994 the neighboring municipality of Beers was abolished and a part thereof, the parish Gassel, was also added to the municipality Grave. Near to Grave lies a bridge, now called John S. Thompsonbrug, built in 1929. It is the northern connection to Gelderland, spanning the river Maas. The bridge was one of the key strategic points in Operation Market Garden; the city was liberated at 17 September 1944, but suffered very little damage. The bridge was named in 2004 after Lieutenant John S. Thompson who commanded the platoon of the 82nd Airborne Division that captured the bridge.
The Hampoort is the old entrance to the city, and it is still largely intact and can be visited.

Wij zijn Pieter en Marieke en sinds 2015 varen we met onze motorboot de Canicula door Nederland. Tijdens onze eerste vaartocht door Overijssel vallen we van de ene verbazing in de andere. Over de imposante bebouwing van Vollenhove, de massieve zeesluis van Blokzijl, het dijkdorp Kuinre. Geweldig! Inmiddels zijn we bijna heel Nederland door gevaren. Om iedereen te laten zien hoe mooi Nederland is vanaf het water, maken we video's van onze vaartochten en schrijven we artikelen over wat we allemaal tegenkomen onderweg. De Canicula is een St. Tropez cabincruiser van negen meter lang, tachtig centimeter diep en ruim twee meter hoog.

During 2020, I stopped travelling because of the coronavirus disease. However, I did visit the now not so vibrant Amsterdam (870,000 inhabitants, I’ve seen maybe 10) and wanted to share my almost post-apocalyptic photos with you.
Don’t forget to keep dreaming about that special place you still want to visit, and in the meantime stay safe!
Tiengemeten
Tiengemeten is een eiland in de Nederlandse provincie Zuid-Holland. Het werd bij de gemeentelijke herindeling in 1984 deel van de gemeente Korendijk, maar was voor die tijd gesplitst tussen Goudswaard en Zuid-Beijerland. Sinds de herindeling van 2019 is het onderdeel van de gemeente Hoeksche Waard.[1] De naam duidt op de grootte: een gemet is een oude landmaat van ruim 0,4 hectare. Tiengemeten is 7 km lang en 2 km breed. De maat van het eiland en de naam zijn nu dus niet meer met elkaar in overeenstemming: 10 gemeten is ongeveer 4 hectare, wat wil zeggen: een stuk van 100 bij 400 meter. Het eiland was oorspronkelijk grotendeels verpacht aan boeren. Sinds 1997 wordt het door Natuurmonumenten beheerd als nat natuurgebied.
