French is the language of administration and education, and Arabic is the language of religion. Comorian (also known as Shikomor) - a Bantu language closely related to Swahili - is the language of the people. It is spoken by nearly 97% of the population. Comorian is confined almost exclusively for oral use - in the few cases where it is written, it is written either in the Arabic script or the Latin script. Although the Latin script is more widely promoted, literacy in the Arabic script is higher.

Most Comorians speak Comorian as a first language and French as a second. Some can also speak Arabic.

Grande Comore
Trek to the Karthala volcano crater (6-8 hours walk up on a well-maintained path); possible as a day-tour or as a overnight tour of 2-3 days. There is a permanent camp below the crater with tents. It is also possible to visit the sulfur springs further along (additional 2-3 hours of walking). Guides available. A 2-day trek with accommodation, food, water, guide costs EUR 100 per person.
Lac Sale - salt-water lake adjacent to the beach beyond Mytsamiouli in Grand Comore in what seems to be an old crater near the sea. Impressive sight from the rock between the lake and the sea, making it possible to get a good 360 degree view of the scenery. The location is very close to the national road.
Dolphins off the coast beyond Hahaya
Beaches near Mitsamiouli (Galawa, Planet and Maloudja). Basic beachfront shacks available on Maloudja beach for EUR 30 per night.

Mohéli
Livingstone Bats up in the trees after a 1-1.5 hour hike.
Giant Sea Turtles laying eggs every day at Itsamia. Basic accommodation by a community project is available at EUR 25 per room.
Saint Antoine ridge hike is a medium to slightly difficult hike (depending on the season) up on a mountain ridge to an old house of a colonial French person. A large part of the hike is just going up, but parts of the hike are on the ridge which is supported left and right by trees (so you are basically walking on roots, like someone said).
Dive in the Marine National Park with Laka Lodge.

Anjouan
Rent a 4x4 car with a driver and drive around the island, taking in a small waterfall, old towns and views of mountains and beaches.

Hiking an Ancient Volcano in Comoros

In April 1977, a fiery torrent of molten rock dribbled from a fissure on the side of Karthala mountain during an eruption, destroying 300 houses in the village of Singani; locals managed to flee to safety. In this video, you will see the crater and where the 1977 erruption occured.

The Comoros are volcanic Islands located in the Mozambique Channel to the north-west of Madagascar and facing Mozambique. The volcano in Comoros is still active .

The majority of journalists around the world have chosen to develop their subject on controversial and sensational themes: violence, war, crime. But all these facts represent only 1% of our world and its inhabitants, forgetting the remaining 99% of which we never speak.
I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.
Currently, I have already visited nearly 184 countries and my world tour continues thanks to you who follow me.

Moheli - A hidden gem in the Comoros Islands

#hiddenparadise #localconservation #indianocean #protectnature

An impulsive decision to head to a remote island in the middle of the Indian Ocean led to one of most incredible four day working side by side with my good friend Rudi Wild and Moheli National Park. We spent every second of our time filming this spectacular gem of nature both on land and underwater. Less than 700 tourists Moheli every year. Which just goes to show how special this place is.

Huge thanks to the team of Mohéli National Park for making this possible.

Travel To Comoros | The Ultimate Travel Guide | Top Attractions

The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast, in the warm Indian Ocean waters of the Mozambique Channel. The nation’s largest island, Grande Comore (Ngazidja) is ringed by beaches and old lava from the active Mt. Karthala volcano. Around the port and medina in the capital, Moroni, are carved doors and a white colonnaded mosque, the Ancienne Mosquée du Vendredi, recalling the islands’ Arab heritage.
