Places to see in ( Dartford - UK )
Places to see in ( Dartford - UK )
Dartford is the principal town in the Borough of Dartford, Kent, England. It is located 18 miles south-east of Central London, and is situated adjacent to the London Borough of Bexley to its west. To its north, across the Thames estuary, is Thurrock in Essex, which can be reached via the Dartford Crossing and the Dartford Tunnel.
Dartford centre lies in a valley through which the River Darent flows, and where the old road from London to Dover crossed: hence the name, from Darent + ford. Dartford became a market town in medieval times and, although today it is principally a commuter town for Greater London, it has a long history of religious, industrial and cultural importance. It is an important rail hub; the main through-road now by-passes the town itself.
Dartford is twinned with several other towns and cities abroad including Hanau in Germany, Gravelines in France and Namyangju in South Korea.
Dartford has two major buildings concerned with performance art. The Orchard Theatre, located in the town centre, is a fully professional theatre, providing audiences with a large range of drama, dance, music and entertainment. The Mick Jagger Centre, within the grounds of Dartford Grammar School on Shepherds Lane, was completed in 2000 and provides facilities for community arts across a wide region.
Dartford railway station is located in the town centre and is connected to London via three National Rail routes. The first railway London to Dartford connection was the North Kent Line via Woolwich Arsenal in 1849, connecting at Gravesend with the line to the Medway Towns. Later two more lines were built, the Dartford Loop Line through Sidcup, which opened in 1866, and the Bexleyheath Line, which opened in 1895. All the lines were electrified on 6 June 1926.
( Dartford - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Dartford . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Dartford - UK

Exploring OTFORD PALACE | Kent
I’m in the Village of Otford located on the River Darent by the North Downs.in Kent and visiting the historic Otford Palace (via the Grade I Listed St Bartholomew's Church). King Offa of Mercia fought the Saxons in 776 at ‘The Battle of Otford’ and from those times until 1537, the Palace was one of the chain of houses belonging to the Archbishops of Canterbury. It was rebuilt around 1515 by Archbishop Warham to rival that of Cardinal Wolsey at Hampton Court. When King Henry VIII died, the Palace fell into ruin and all we see now is only a small part of this once vast Estate. I also comment why I think as a Paranormal Researcher that nowhere is ‘haunted’.

The Pilgrims' Way: Otford to Wrotham 18 July 2017
A 5.25 mile section of the Pilgrims' Way between Otford and Wrotham in Kent. Unfortunately, over half of the walk was pn roads which were quite busy. There are some decent downland views in the video though. The walk took place in hot sunny weather on Tuesday 18 July 2017.

Yoga and Hike Otford Circular via Romney Street walk | 🇬🇧 Hiking UK | England | 4K
A short walk packed with variety and fine views, bluebell woods in season, a pretty village and a short train journey
Length
12.0km (7.5 miles), 3 hours 30 minutes. For the whole outing, including trains, sights and meals, allow 7 hours 30 minutes.
Toughness
6 out of 10.
Being short in length, this walk makes a good, brisk, autumn or winter walk, with several ups and downs, although the walk is also delightful in bluebell season as the route passes through lots of bluebell woods during the morning. The route at the outset is steeply uphill, for a time following the North Downs Way, with views back over Otford and the valley, then going through Greenhill Wood, with a glimpse of Oak Hall, before heading north to Romney Street. You then have a steep descent to cross a former golf course for a short, steep ascent before dropping down to Shoreham village, for a late lunch at one of its four pubs or two tea rooms or vineyard.

It was a very hot day..but I till managed to do the 6.5 mile stretch of the Pilgrims' Way between Westerham Hill and Otford. As I always seem to be saying, there are some tremendous views in the video including Chevening House (the Foreign Secretary's grace and favours retreat). The walk took place on Monday 26 June 2017.

Otford Circular Walk, September 2, 2017
Eynsford Circular walk | Hiking UK | 4K | North Downs | My Favourites | 🇬🇧 Hiking UK | England
A contrast between hidden valleys in the North Downs and the Darent Valley Path through three interesting villages.
Some of this walk will be familiar from the two Book 1 walks which start in Otford, but most of it covers new ground. It starts along a country lane through the secluded Austin Lodge valley, climbing to the isolated settlement of Romney Street. It continues on an undulating section to a ridge with fine views of the Darent valley, from where you descend into Otford, passing its scale model of the Solar System. The village has many interesting old buildings and the full route takes you past the ruins of Otford Palace, a rival to Hampton Court in Tudor times.

swcwalks, swcwalk 37, Knockholt to Otford. 18/1/19.
A very decent walk for this walker's return from an enforced hiatus. This one, of around 8.7 miles, was a nicely-wooded saunter over the North Downs, in the popular walking area of Knockholt/Shoreham.
The initial few miles was a bit noisy, being close to the M25 and a dual carriage-way into Orpington, but this disappears as the walk progresses. There's a nice balance of woodland and downland prior to the descent (which can be hazardous as slippery grass) into Shoreham.
Lunch is had in the storm-porch of Saint Peter and St Paul church, which is being renovated currently, prior to more woodland and downland on the afternoon ascent. The valley of Magpie Bottom, an SSSI nature reserve, is probably the day's highlight.
The North Downs Way offers more decent views prior to the descent into Otford and an awaiting train - for a change!
A very nice, short walk, close to London, that provides a decent work-out for longer challenges to follow. Would be nice in the Bluebell season and isn't overly muddy currently, though beware of slippery leaves and grass on some of the descents!

Old Polhill, Sevenoaks | Broleur Kent Alps toughest climbs
Between Otford and Halstead, with the start of the hill just outside the M25 motorway around London, Old Polhill previously made the list on Broleur Top 10 toughest cycling climbs in the Kent Alps - until they found some even harder!
Old Polhill has an elevation gain of 70 metres over a distance of 0.9 kilometres. The climb is broken by a level section through a tunnel below the M25 motorway - although there is no chance of a rest as you have to concentrate hard through the tunnel in darkness. The surface is ok, but track is gradually becoming thinner with plants at either side taking up space.

Walks near London - A summer walk in the Darent Valley
#walksnearlondon #shoreham #eynsford #darentvalley
In July 2020 I found the following walk in Walks In The Countryside Near London.
We were looking for a walk close to London (it was about an hours drive) and preferably in Kent - as we’ve done a lot of walking in Essex and Suffolk.
Starting in Shoreham we walked north along the River Darent then across fields. We reached the Lullingstone Country Park going along the side of a lake formed by the dammed river which led to Lullingstone Castle
Just beyond the castle is the Lullingstone Roman Villa which we didn’t visit due to Covid restrictions, but we did peer in and it looked fascinating.
Further walking across fields gave great views up and down the valley and of the Eynsford Viaduct We walked into Eynsford village across the bridge next to the ford and had ice cream.
Then we hiked up the Austin Lodge valley to Preston Hill, up and over the top, down through woods to the bottom where we traversed a couple of fields to take us back into Shoreham and its numerous pubs - although 2 of these may have now closed permanently, possibly due to the Covid pandemic.
8 odd miles in total, a beautiful round trip and highly recommended.
Walks in Kent. Cobham.
A short walk along peaceful download paths from the village of Cobham, Kent, noted for its fine 13th-century church and associations with Charles Dickens, to Henley Down, where there are glorious views across Luddesdown nestling in a valley.
This is route 1 / 28 from the Kent Outstanding Circular Walks book by Ordnance Survey. Higgsybear Outdoors is attempting all of these walks by the end of 2022. Join us on our adventure.
