The Guanacaste Province is located in the northwest region of Costa Rica. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, the province of Alajuela to the east, and the Guanacaste Mountain Range to the north. The provincial capital is Liberia.
The Guanacaste Province was first settled by the Spanish in 1524. The province was originally known as Santa Cruz de Castilla. In 1824, the province was renamed Guanacaste. The province was divided into two districts: Nicoya and Santa Cruz.
The Guanacaste Province has a rich history. The province was home to several important battles during the Costa Rican Civil War (1948-1949). The most important battle took place in the town of Santa Cruz. The battle was fought between the National Liberation Army (Ejército de Liberación Nacional - ELN) and the Costa Rican government forces. The ELN was eventually defeated and the province returned to peace.
Today, Guanacaste Province is known for its beautiful province with plenty of natural attractions.

Long Life Food of Costa Rica!! HUGE BREAKFAST + Secrets to Eating in Nicoya!!
🔸 Huge thank you to @mytanfeet for this amazing experience!
🇨🇷 Costa Rican Street Food Tour:
Nicoya, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica - Nicoya is one of the five Blue Zones in the world, where people traditionally live much longer and healthier lives. Today we’re learning from some of the community elders about what they do, and especially what they eat. This was a huge learning experience, and definitely many tips that we can all use!
Fonda Chorotega, Nicoya, Costa Rica - We first spent some time at Fonda Chorotega, a restaurant in Nicoya preserving traditional Costa Rican food in the region. We first cooked some local corn tortillas with cheese, then tried some tamales. Next we had an entire gallo pinto meal with organic free range chicken stew. We also had egg coffee!
Mujeres del Maíz, Nicoya, Costa Rica - Next we met up with a community from Mujeres del Maíz who specialize in preserving corn recipes from Nicoya. Corn, in all shapes, sizes, and forms is very important in longevity and local diet.
Fidel - 97 Years Old, Nicoya, Costa Rica - Finally, it was a huge honor to meet up with Fidel, who is 97 years old, and still enjoys life to the fullest!
Again, a huge thank you to @mytanfeet for arranging this entire experience. Check out their amazing website packed with Costa Rica travel tips and information (

Costa Rica Beach Getaway - Nicoya Peninsula - January 2021
We first went to Costa Rica back in 2003 when our daughter was three years old. On that trip, we spent our time on the coast between Jaco and Manuel Antonio National Park. We figured It was time for a return visit. We were planning to head down there in June of 2021, but when we learned that the U.S. CDC was going to impose testing requirements for all inbound travelers including citizens at the end of January 2021, we decided to move the trip up. We changed our flights on January 15 and two days later we were winging our way south.
We complied with all of Costa Rica's entry requirements including the submission of the Health Pass prior to travel. We also purchased the required health insurance through a Costa Rican company.
We flew into Costa Rica's Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste Province, rented a car, and headed to the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. We spent five blissful nights at a lovely beachfront hotel that had no road access so it was very quiet and peaceful. We fell asleep each night to the waves right outside our door.
During our stay, everyone we met was friendly, relaxed, and cheerful. It's always good to feel welcome when you travel especially during times like these and we felt blessed. We enjoyed sun-filled days taking long walks on nearly deserted ocean beaches interrupted at intervals with refreshing dips in tropical ocean waters.
And the food was marvelous! Still missing that good ol' salsa Lizano!
Muchas gracias, Costa Rica! Hasta la proxima vez!
