Nazareth, Israel: Mt. Precipice, Jesus' Hometown, Christ Rejected, Attempt to Throw Jesus off Cliff
Nazareth is where Jesus grew up. Later, Jesus returned to His hometown and was rejected by His own people. They were so angry that He claimed to be the Messiah that they attempted to throw Him off a cliff.

BOOKS ABOUT ISRAEL BY TODD FINK:
Location
1. Nazareth is in the northern part of Israel in the Lower Galilee area.
2. It’s about 15 miles (24 km.) southwest of the Sea of Galilee, about 3.5 miles (5.6 km.) southwest of Cana, and about 23 miles (37 km.) inland from the Mediterranean Sea.
Historical Background
1. Nazareth had an estimated population of around 300 during the time of Christ.
2. It’s a famous town because this is where the Angel Gabriel announced the miraculous virgin birth to Mary.
3. Nazareth is also the place where Jesus grew up.
4. It was a small farming town where everyone knew each other.
5. For some reason, Nazareth had a bad reputation (John 1:43-46).
Places of Interest
1. Church of the Annunciation (also known as the Basilica of the Annunciation)
2. Mary’s Well
3. Greek Catholic Church
4. Synagogue Church
5. Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation
6. St. Joseph’s Church
7. Mensa Christi Church
8. Greek Catholic Church
9. Mt. Precipice
Nazareth & Mt. Precipice In the Bible
1. Nazareth was the home of Joseph and Mary and the place where the angel Gabriel was sent to announce to the Virgin Mary that she would be the mother of Christ the Messiah (Luke 1:26-38).
2. There have been two churches built here to commemorate this announcement. One is called, the “Church of the Annunciation,” and the other, the “Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation.” The most likely place, which has the most archaeological and historical evidence is the Church of the Annunciation.
3. After living in Egypt for some time after Christ’s birth, His parents returned to Nazareth where Jesus grew up (Matthew 2:19-23).
4. Jesus lived in Nazareth until He started His earthly ministry at the age of 30. From Nazareth, Christ relocated and set up His ministry home base in Capernaum (Matthew 4:13–17).
5. Jesus was rejected by His own townspeople at Nazareth and was unable to perform many miracles there due to their lack of faith in Him (Luke 4:14-27).
6. Those who knew Christ best rejected Him and attempted to throw Him off a cliff close-by to their town. Today, this place is called Mount Precipice (Luke 4:28–30).
Faith Lesson from Nazareth
1. Nazareth had a bad reputation. God oftentimes places light in the dark so the light can illuminate the darkness. Are we being lights where we live?
2. The people of Nazareth largely rejected Christ. It shouldn’t surprise us if we too are rejected because of our faith in Christ and adherence to His Word.
3. Christ was rejected so He understands when we are rejected by our close friends and family members because of our faith in Him.
4. Do we reject Christ by refusing His offer of salvation, by refusing to be obedient Him, or by not sharing our faith with those around us?
Journey Through Israel - Travel Documentary
Israel means a lot of different things to many people, and is one of the most diverse and dynamic countries in the world. Even though it’s often associated with political unrest and conflict, it’s also a beautiful place to travel to, with spectacular natural beauty, lively cities, ancient historic sites, incredible cuisine, and friendly, welcoming people.
On this journey, I’m traveling through the Holy Land, a region important to the three main monotheistic religions, and what is known today as Israel and Palestine.
In this episode, I’m exploring Israel, a country that was established in 1948, but is located in a region that has been at the crossroads of religions and cultures for many centuries. From the beautiful beaches and dynamic streets of modern Tel Aviv, to the religious landmarks and atmospheric alleys of the Old City of Jerusalem. From the salty water of the Dead Sea to the surreal desert landscapes of the Negev. Along the way, I meet some of the people that live here, and taste some of the local food.
I’ll do so from a traveler’s perspective, focusing on the positive stories and things to do. But here and there I also mention the conflict between Israel and Palestine, since it has impacted the lives of many people in the region. For those interested in the politics and modern history of the region, however, I recommend to read, watch, and listen to as many different sources as you can.
This is my first long trip after the pandemic started, and I’m grateful for the chance to travel again. It’s also my second visit to the region, and therefore I use both new and older footage for this video.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
We begin this journey in Tel Aviv, Israel’s ‘beach city’. But it’s much more than that, it’s also an economic powerhouse and vibrant cultural center, known for its liberal and cosmopolitan attitude. The next stop is Caesarea, an interesting place for people who are interested in history. This ancient port city was an important place during Roman times, and was only recently excavated by archaeologists. Not far from here is Haifa, known particularly for its beautiful Bahai’s gardens.
I continue my travels in Akko, a stunning fortified city on the Mediterranean coast. Its winding alleys are a joy to get lost in, and it’s also worth discovering the underground tunnels. Driving onwards, I travel to the Golan Heights, an area popular for outdoor activities, with beautiful mountain landscapes and national parks. It’s also a contested place, as the Golan was captured by Israel from Syria, after Six Day War. As you travel in this region, you come across many reminders of the war.
Nazareth is one of Christianity’s holiest places, and the place where Jesus is said to have lived for many years. The Basilica of the Annunciation is the absolute highlight for many visitors, and the city is an important place for religious tourism. Also interesting is Nazareth Village, where you can imagine life during the time of Jesus.
Few places evoke so much imagination as Jerusalem, one of the world’s oldest cities, and holy to Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Walking (into) the Old City can be a magical experience, and to many visitors feels like entering a different world, and era. While Jerusalem is a spiritual and historic center, it’s also a dynamic city, where traditional lifestyles blend with cosmopolitan ideas.
We continue our journey in the Negev, a vast region in the South of Israel, comprising of arid mountains and surreal desert landscapes. Here, I visit a number of beautiful nature reserves, and also briefly visit a kibbutz. At the Southern tip of the Negev is Eilat, a popular holiday destination for Israeli families, but also a good place to go diving or snorkeling, as it’s located on the Red Sea.
I end the trip on the Dead Sea, known for its high salt levels, where people actually stay afloat. The high concentration of minerals is also said to have healing powers for people with certain skin problems. It’s not all good news though, as the Dead Sea’s water levels are receding at immense speed, mostly due to human activity, such as extraction for industrial purposes, and climate change.

In addition to its great religious value, Nazareth is also a city rich in culture and history, not to mention interesting archaeology, all of which will show visitors a different side to Middle Eastern charm.
3 Sea of Galilee
The Sea of Galilee, or as Israelis call it, the Kinneret, is a major water source, as well as the largest freshwater lake, in Israel. The history of the lake goes way back. According to the New Testament, many of Jesus’ miracles occurred here, including his walk on the water. Today, tourists visit The Sea of Galilee to enjoy the relaxing lake, have fun building rafts, or practice various water activities.
4 Golan Heights
In the north of the country you can find Golan Heights, a mountainous region with breathtaking landscapes, wonderful nature reserves and intriguing historical attractions for the whole family. If you’re interested in hiking, the Golan region offers a variety of different paths with varying levels of difficulty, dependent on the time of year. It is especially impressive during spring, when flowers are blooming and the fields are green. In wintertime, the Hermon Mountain, located in the Golan Heights, is an ideal destination for skiers.
5 Haifa
Haifa has a variety of different neighborhoods and a mix of cultures, making it a very lively place to visitor. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful port and the vibrant beach, perfect for surfers. Plus, they can take in the beautiful nature Haifa has to offer with its unique Bahai Garden.

Jerusalem is considered one of the world’s holiest cities, as it is home to important spiritual sites for three major religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Visiting Jerusalem is like travelling back in time. At the center you’ll find the Old City surrounded by a grand wall; here, visitors can learn a lot about Jerusalem’s religious history by visiting places such as the Al Aqsa Mosque, the Church of Holy Sepulcher, and the Western Wall. The Old City of Jerusalem is divided into four quarters: the Muslim quarter, the Armenian quarter, the Christian quarter and the Jewish quarter. When visiting Jerusalem, visitors should make a trip to one of the museums outside the Old City, such as Yad VaShem, a Holocaust remembrance center.
8 Ramon Crater
Located in Mitzpe Ramon, a town in the Negev desert, is the Ramon Crater, or, as it is called in Hebrew, Makhtesh Ramon. This is the largest makteshim (erosion crater) in the world, measuring 40 km (25 miles) in length and 10 km (6 miles) at its widest point. Visitors can tour the crater by Jeep, segway, or even helicopter, but hot air balloon flights offer the most spectacular views from above.
9 Dead Sea
The lowest point on earth, at more than 430 meters (1,412 feet) below the sea level, the Dead Sea is not only fun to float in, it is also healthy, historic and surrounded by breathtaking beauty. This endorheic lake is one of the saltiest bodies of water on Earth, giving it the perfect buoyancy for floating. Plus you can cover your body in the healthy Dead Sea mud to find pure, inner relaxation. Once in the Dead Sea area, there are two other sites that should not be missed: Masada, with its archaeological importance and amazing views, and Ein Gedi, a water oasis in the desert.
10 Eilat
After traveling around Israel, taking in history, nature and culture, Eilat is the perfect destination in which to relax. Equipped with a great variety of beautiful hotels and resorts, this paradise at the very south of Israel offers many different activities. Visitors can take diving
