A question I get a lot is: Can I travel to Mexico without a passport?
While there's a chance you won't be asked to show your passport when you enter Mexico, I'd never leave the US without my passport. Plus, you'll likely be asked to show it to the border agent when you go to return home to the US.

At America’s Most Lawless Border 🇺🇸🇲🇽
Far from Phoenix in the south of Arizona is beautiful Cochise County. Here the mountains tie together two countries and the most lawless border area in the United States. Here's the place of high-speed chases and 13-year-olds making up to $3000 per migrant as they drive them up to Phoenix. A place of cat and mouse where the cartels are in control. Join me as we venture to another part of the US border to get a better understanding of what's currently happening at the ground level with the local Sheriff.

Naco, Arizona | Small Border Towns
Naco, Arizona is a small border town with a history and unique characteristics that set it apart from many other towns in the United States. It is located in Cochise County, Arizona, directly across the United States–Mexico border from its sister city of Naco, Sonora. This unique geographical positioning has shaped its history, economy, and culture. The town was established in the early 20th century and was originally settled by the Nahua and Opata Indians, with the name Naco meaning nopal cactus in the Opata language. The U.S. Congress officially established Naco as a Port of Entry on June 28, 1902, and today, the Naco port of entry operates 24 hours a day.
Naco's history is deeply intertwined with the border. Established in the early 20th century, the town was initially a hub for copper mining and ranching. The border itself was a mere formality, with people and goods moving freely between the U.S. and Mexico. This dynamic changed with the onset of Prohibition in the United States, which saw Naco becoming a point of entry for contraband alcohol.
One of the most notable historical events in Naco's history is the Battle of Naco, part of the Mexican Revolution. In 1915, Constitutionalist forces in Mexico, led by General Alvaro Obregon, clashed with the Villistas near the border. This battle was significant for being one of the few instances where a foreign conflict spilled onto U.S. soil, as stray bullets often landed in Naco, Arizona.
As of the 2023 census, Naco had a population of about 1,000 people with a racial makeup that was predominantly Hispanic with a median age of 30 years old and a median household income of $37,000. The population is characterized by a significant number of residents of Hispanic descent, with a majority being U.S. citizens. The homeownership rate is quite high at 83%, and most residents drive to work to nearby Bisbee and other Arizona towns.

Naco Border Crossing Into Mexico and Back
Take a drive into Mexico and back at the Naco Border crossing. It's a very small town on both sides of the border and is a very low-traffic, easy place to enter Mexico. The border was under construction but it appeared to have plenty of space for RV's.
See the full instructions and report here -
Mexican Insurance Quotes -
FMM and Temporary Import Permit - I've heard reports about doing this at the border but I didn't see an Aduana or Bajercito office. You can drive to Cananea to complete all paperwork after crossing over here. It's roughly 30-40 minutes from Naco.
I was searched when crossing into Mexico. The search was professional and they were careful to replace all of my camping gear and possessions. I was also placed in secondary and searched when returning to the USA. US Customs officers were not careful with my gear and they tossed it around (including my Starlink satellite). I left the camera running and they also talked about my vehicle being a potential decoy or distraction which obviously isn't true. Otherwise, it was a typical inspection on the US side.
Between each crossing, I do a quick lap through town and spend some time in the local square. It was a quiet Sunday and most businesses were closed for the morning. Walking across to explore town and get some food or visit a dentist/pharmacy would be very easy.

Historic Camp Naco - Naco, Arizona
A little history of historic Camp Naco. This video covers some of the history of Camp Naco which was founded in 1919 and it was the America's Buffalo Soldiers who made up the garrison stationed here at that time. It's location is about 1,500 feet from the Mexico border in Southeastern Arizona in Naco, which also has a small town of the same name on the other side of the border of Mexico. Bisbee is right next door.

In early February 2019, Trump sent troops to the tiny border town of Naco, Arizona - and almost overnight, the border fence - where children once painted - glittered with coils of razor wire.
