Muranga Town, The Cleanest Town in Central Kenya
Murang'a is a town in Murang'a County of Kenya. Before the independence of Kenya in 1963, this town used to be called Fort Hall. It is the administrative centre of Murang'a County and is mainly inhabited by the Kikuyu community. According to the 1999 census, the town has a population of about 11,021.
The town is low, a bit hilly, small but picturesque with an altitude of 4120 ft (1255 metres) above sea level. As a result of the varying altitudes, Murang'a can get quite cold from May to Mid-August, and can experience hail. To the west of the town can be seen the rolling Kikuyu farmlands that extend as far as the eyes can see.
Murang'a is a fast-growing town that attracts traders and farmers from the neighbouring districts. It has banks, petrol stations, a post office, lodges, nightclubs playing the latest local and Western music, restaurants serving local and exotic dishes, supermarkets, dry cleaners, and lively marketplaces. It has also a relatively busy bus and matatu transportation terminal. A district general hospital is located in the northern corner of the town. The town is accessible from Nairobi by Thika-Murang'a road and from Nyeri.
History
When missionaries first came to Kenya, they found the Coast Region already inhabited by Portuguese, who had taken the coast, strategic for trade, from Arab powers in the 16th century. The missionaries ventured into Kenya's rugged interior and Murang'a was one of the first places they settled.
When the British set up the East African Protectorate in 1895, their first administrative post (Fort Smith) was located in Murang'a.
One of the main highlights of Murang'a's history, however, is the Mau Mau uprising that was led by the Agikuyu community who consider Murang'a their ancestral origin. Murang'a is thus considered, at least by some, the birthplace of the Kenyan independence movement.
Missionaries had initially been welcomed by Karuri Wagakure who was the chief of Tuthu. They set up the first mission church in Kenya at Murang'a.
Murang'a is also the source of Rivers Maragua, which originates from the heart of the Aberdare Range, Mathioya, Kayahwe, Irati and Muriurio among others.
Additionally, Murang'a is known for its fertile farming soil and good climate. Food crops such as maize, beans, sweet potatoes, arrow roots, pumpkins and bananas are grown in the region.
Tea and coffee are the County's main cash crops

Staycation at the best Hotel in Muranga/ Stanleys Haven/Hidden Gem in Kenya
We had a Family Staycation at one of the best Hotels in Muranga,Stanleys Haven sort of a Hidden Gem located in muranga. We really enjoyed our stay there, we stayed in their 5 bedroom house which was really cool, we paid Ksh.25,000 for the entire house, hired a chef to prepare our meals so we had enough time to enjoy ourselves. I highly recommend the place for a Family Getaway, Wedding venue, Girls trip, team buildings etc.

DIFFERENT SIDE OF MURANG'A TOWN
This is a continuation of my MURANG'A town series as I take you round the town to get a feeling of how life is in the town. Its a really chill town with minimal noise pollution. The town is a bit hilly but nothing too steep,it's even good for your health to walk up and down the hilly town.
In this video I venture deeper into the hood to see how it compares to the main town center or CBD.It still looks decent though I found one heap of litter along the way which is uncommon in a clean town like MURANG'A.

Best Places to Visit in Kiambu County
Kiambu County is a county in the former Central Province of Kenya. Its capital is Kiambu and its largest town is Thika.[3] Kiambu County borders Nairobi and Kajiado Counties to the South, Machakos to the East, Murang‘a to the North and North East, Nyandarua to the North West, and Nakuru to the West and has a population of 2,417,735.[4][5]
The county is 40% rural and 60% urban owing to Nairobi's consistent growth Northwards. The Kikuyu are the dominant tribe in the county.
In 2007, Kiambu District was subdivided in two: Kiambu East and Kiambu West. Kiambu West district took Limuru, Lari and Kikuyu divisions,[6] with Limuru as its district capital.

Road trip in rural Murang'a county in Kenya. Suggested countryside drive
The new winding Gacharage-Kangema road is quite scenic. Breathtaking bends and steep slopes are not for the faint-hearted.
Step out of Nairobi and enjoy a countryside drive. Get some fresh air and moment of peaceful bliss away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
