Off the beaten track, Muisine Esmeraldas has a beautiful beach and is home to the biggest aphrodesiac in Ecuador.

We popped in for lunch to try the famous blue crab cooked in coconut sauce. Unfortunately it wasn't available but they did have pata de burro. This Ecuadorian food is only found in Esmeraldas and while many foods on the coast are supposed to enhance the mood for love, this one is the most famous.

Camping Ecuador’s Secret Beach! Discovering Playa Escondida in Esmeraldas 🏖️
Playa Escondida lives up to its name as the secret beach in Ecuador. If you want to be the only ones on the beach head to Esmeraldas. We camped here and woke up to the sound of the waves hitting the soft sand. Located in southern Esmeraldas, it's one of the best Ecuadorian beaches and I wish we could have spent more time here.
It's not too far from Playa Same and Tonchigüe in Esmeraldas and is a great place to stop overnight before heading onto Mompiche.

It has been my favourite province in Ecuador for food and the beaches here are unmatchable. The people are also so friendly and helpful when you ask them about safety in Esmeraldas. We always asked locals in advance if someone we wanted to go was safe or not. If they say a place is complicated or difficult, it's best to skip it.

Mompiche Ecuador is one of the few fishing villages around the world that hasn't been spoiled by tourism. Other than surfing there's not a whole lot to do and that's exactly why you'll want to go.
Located in the southern part of Esmeraldas Province. This place is what every hardcore traveler wants - peace. There are a few things that will keep you busy but you'll fall in love with the art of doing nothing but enjoying the surroundings.

Esmeraldas City may not be the safest to travel, Las Palmas beach at the end of the city is a family friendly beach with delicious Esmeraldan food.
Comida Esmeraldeña is without a doubt the best in Ecuador. I haven't had a single meal that wasn't incredible. And while I don't like to play favourites, you cannot ignore that cooks from Esmeraldas have a special sazon that is just magic.

Tonsupa Esmeraldas is known as one of the best beaches in Ecuador - but is it safe?

Tonsupa resorts are popular with Ecuadorians on holiday, usually from Quito. And it's slowly becoming a popular spot for expats to buy condos. Although Atacames was the hot beach in Esmeraldas and Tonsupa was just a timeshare spot that is changing. And now Tonsupa beach is the place to be.
But it's hard to find information on things to do in Tonsupa. Most YouTube videos are people drinking on the beach and staying in resorts. But I stayed on the opposite end of the beach at a great local hotel and ate in the comedor next door.
Yet I left also thinking Tonsupa is one of the best beaches in Ecuador.

We ate next door every day, it has no name but it's to the left of the hotel. And we splurged on the bolon de verde at Pichos Bar, which initially seemed pricey but portion sizes made it worth it.

La ruta hacia #Mompiche conduce al acceso rápido donde se ubica un parqueadero vehicular, para tomar una lancha por 1 dólar que en un par de minutos nos traslada a la isla, para luego a bordo de una tricimoto por un costo de $2 dólares por persona llevarnos hasta uno de los hospedajes locales con vista al mar.
Aquí se vive una experiencia única e inolvidable en conexión con la naturaleza, deleitándonos de cada detalle, un baño en sus cálidas aguas o tan solo disfrutar de una caminata por la playa, donde sus inmensas palmeras son un cautivante complemento del paisaje y le dan un toque especial a esta maravillosa isla que cuenta con cabañas que ofrecen su deliciosa gastronomía. Además desde aquí se puede apreciar el Royal Decameron de Mompiche.
Sus diversos recursos naturales, su extensa y apacible playa, la calidez de su gente, hacen de este lugar un destino especial que vale la pena visitar.

Mompiche es una pequeña población en la parte sur de la provincia de Esmeraldas, que ha crecido en los últimos años gracias al turismo. Su hermosa y extensa playa junto con la amabilidad de la gente ha hecho que se convierta en un destino turístico muy apetecido
Es un paraíso de la naturaleza, uno de los últimos humedales marino-costeros del Ecuador. A sus alrededores se puede observar su llamativa flora y fauna que la caracterizan.
Lugar ideal para los amantes del surf, esquí, kitesurf y windsurf ya que sus olas alcanzan hasta 1 km de largo. Sus hermosos paisajes y su exquisita comida hacen de este sitio ideal para disfrutar de un día perfecto de playa, bajo sus palmeras donde se puede tener un momento de paz y tranquilidad.

Esmeraldas
Un clima privilegiado, 25 ºC de temperatura y un paisaje costero que poco tiene que envidiar a otras playas del mundo, hacen definitivamente de Esmeraldas un destino que obliga a cualquier turista a tomarlo en cuenta a lo largo de la Costa ecuatoriana.
Por esta razón la infraestructura turística que se ha levantado en la Provincia Verde ofrece al visitante todo un abanico de opciones, desde las más lujosas residencias, hasta aquellas que ofrecen un contacto más cercano con la naturaleza.

Ecuador is an incredibly diverse country that straddles the equator on South America’s west coast. Although the country is small in terms of land area, it is known for its vast landscapes including the Amazon Jungle, the Andean Highlands, the beautiful coastline and the wild-life rich Galapagos. The Snow-capped volcanoes, lush green jungles, colonial cities only cover a portion of Ecuador’s excitement. The real beauty is found in the abundant micro-cultures spanning the country.
