Exploring Mudgee Town And Gulgong Walk

Wrapping our visit to Mudgee with a town Walk and then we are off to Gulgong - the $10.00 note town.
Overview
Today is our last day to check out the town of Mudgee and a few other sites, before heading to Gulgong. Come with us as we explore Henry Lawson childhood home, Mudgee Town walk, do a wine tasting at Moothi Estate, Moothi Estate, drop into the Honey Haven, then we travel 30 mins to Gulgong where we are enthralled by the Holtermann Museum and the Gulgong Pioneer Museum.

Things to do in MUDGEE region | Weekend Away | Gardens Wineries Cheese | The Sydney Experience

A weekend away in Mudgee three hours by car north-west of Sydney. A large relaxed vibe town filled with classy wineries and a backdrop of rolling hills. Made a pit stop to witness magnificent gardens near Oberon under two hours from Mudgee and a bit more from Sydney. Stopped by Bilpin Cider on the way home to sample a number of cider varieties in a beer garden setting.

Mayfield Gardens //
Extensive well-maintained gardens promoting a variety of flora and water features/lakes/ponds. On-site there are row boats, a LABYRINTH and GROTTO. Plenty of parking with a cafe and nursery. Glamping is available as well.
Location: 530 Mayfield Rd, Oberon NSW 2787

Logan Wines //
Sample local wines and admire views of the vineyard and rolling hills in the distance. A family owned winery with a tasting room indoors/outdoors, comfortable seating, excellent service and plenty of parking.
Location: 1320 Castlereagh Hwy, Apple Tree Flat NSW 2850

Alby & Esthers //
Buzzing local favourite with the usual brunch dishes and a few specials.
Location: 4/61 Market St, Mudgee NSW 2850

Lowe Family Wine Co //
On the 'Tinja' property, pick your area to enjoy wine tasting (of course) and picnic hampers. Special mention of the on-site jetty and swing to set the scene for a good Instagram pic.
Location: Tinja Ln, Mudgee NSW 2850

High Valley Cheese Co //
A number of varieties available to sample and purchase. Easy access and good service.
Location: E137 Ulan Rd, Putta Bucca NSW 2850

Overview
In this video, our road trip continues and we spend the day exploring Wineries around Mudgee and sampling great food. There were many highlights, including a GPS fail that turned out to be an amazing experience.
By starting the day with a visit to the tourist information centre we could get up to date with how things were working in a covid summer in Mudgee and visiting wineries and the such. The young lady we spoke to was very helpful, she even made sure we had a booking at Lowe family wines for their tasting experience and lunch.
Most wineries have a small fee for their tasting and this, in theory, helps you enjoy without feeling compelled to purchase something. Some wineries have a set tasting, others may give you the choice of wines or you choose a particular list (flyte).
Many wineries also offer food platters or may have restaurants connected to them, always check at the tourist information centre to learn more if you are looking for more info on that kind of experience. The picnic combined with the slower tasting at Lowe was so lovely and we highly recommend it.
Our lunch platter at Lowe was a build your own and paid per item. Many others are a set platter and all of those we tried where beautiful.
Our tasting platter from the Olive Grove was a platter for two and included a set platter.
We finished a day with a walk along the river checking out more sculptures and dinner at the Lawson Park hotel.

On our trip to Mudgee, we based our selves at Wade Cottage, a centrally located BnB close to town and easy access to the Wineries in the area (that was a big reason for the visit).
In this video, we share our thoughts, how much we paid and we give some honest feedback.
Mudgee is such a lovely place to explore and staying in a great location really added to the overall feel of the experience. When real estate say Location is key, they don't lie and this location is fantastic.
