Leeds is a city in the northern English county of Yorkshire. On the south bank of the River Aire, the Royal Armouries houses the national collection of arms and artillery. Across the river, the redeveloped industrial area around Call Lane is famed for bars and live music venues under converted railway arches. Leeds Kirkgate Market features hundreds of indoor and outdoor stalls.
Leeds is a local government district of West Yorkshire, England, governed by Leeds City Council, with the status of a city and metropolitan borough. The metropolitan district includes the administrative centre Leeds and the ten towns of Farsley, Garforth, Guiseley, Horsforth, Morley, Otley, Pudsey, Rothwell, Wetherby and Yeadon.
The current city boundaries were set on 1 April 1974 by the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, as part a reform of local government in England. The city is a merger of eleven former local government districts; the unitary City and County Borough of Leeds combined with the municipal boroughs of Morley and Pudsey, the urban districts of Aireborough, Garforth, Horsforth, Otley and Rothwell, and parts of the rural districts of Tadcaster, Wharfedale and Wetherby from the West Riding of Yorkshire.
For its first 12 years the city had a two-tier system of local government; Leeds City Council shared power with the West Yorkshire County Council. Since the Local Government Act 1985 Leeds City Council has effectively been a unitary authority, serving as the sole executive, deliberative and legislative body responsible for local policy, setting council tax, and allocating budget in the city, and is a member of the Leeds City Region Partnership. Thc City of Leeds is divided into 31 civil parishes and a single unparished area.

Places to see in ( Morley - UK )
Places to see in ( Morley - UK )
Morley is a market town and civil parish within the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, in West Yorkshire, England. It lies approximately 5 miles south-west of Leeds city centre. The town had a population of 44,440 in 2011 and is made up of the Morley North and South Wards. The civil parish had a population of 27,738. The town is built on seven hills, like Rome: Scatcherd Hill, Dawson Hill, Daisy Hill, Chapel Hill, Hunger Hill, Troy Hill and Banks Hill.
Morley is first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 as Morelege, Morelei and Moreleia. Morley means open ground by a moor, from Old English mōr moor, clearing, pasture + lẽah open ground, clearing. It also gave its name to Morelei Wapentac, a wapentake which probably met at Tingley.
Historically, Morley was the centre of one of two divisions of the wapentake of Agbrigg and Morley. Morley became a Municipal Borough in 1889 and under the Local Government Act 1972, was incorporated into the City of Leeds Metropolitan District. Morley is represented on Leeds City Council by three wards (Morley North/Morley South and Ardsley/Robin Hood) each with three councillors. At the 2010 general election, Morley and Outwood was won by Ed Balls of the Labour Party, who had been MP for Normanton since 2005, and served as Labour's Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2011 until 2015.
Morley Town Hall is sometimes used for music recordings. Television programmes, Heartbeat and Emmerdale have used its disused magistrates court and a cobblestoned street to one side. It hosts concerts by local schools and performances by the Morley Amateur Operatic Society, whose pantomimes have taken place at the Alexandra Hall for many years.
Morley annually holds one of the largest St George's Day parades in the country and has been named the most patriotic town in England. Morley Market has been a feature since the town was formed. Now with more than trading units, the market building has a large trading hall split up into units housing fruiterers, butchers, fishmongers, fashion shops and a café. Supermarkets in Morley include Morrisons in the town centre and there is also a 24-hour ASDA superstore.
Scatcherd Park in the centre of Morley, by the Morley Leisure Centre, has a large playing field, a skate park, children's park, bowling green and memorial gardens. Events are held on the adjoining field in the summer months. Morley railway station is half a mile (800 m) from the town centre on the Huddersfield Line. There is a service seven days a week to and from Leeds, but on Sundays, the service is less frequent. Buses go to Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and other West Yorkshire towns from bus stops near the Town Hall. The M621 motorway runs to the west of the town and the M62 motorway to the south. Junctions 27 and 28 of the M62 are closest to Morley.

MORLEY: Erewash Parish #10 of 14
Our trip around the most complicated parish in Erewash begins here at the Moor Farm Training Centre, right on Erewash’s boundary with the city of Derby, where Derby County train. As a football fan it’s a little hard not to mention the current struggles the Rams have off the field as of 2022, but that aside, nobody can say their training facilities are lacking
This one is comprised of a series of ancient settlements. These are identified as Brackley Gate, The Croft, Morley Smithy, Morley Moor and Church Lane but there are several other isolated places. One of those would be Broomfield Hall, located on the A608 with 450 acres of land to its name. It’s part of Derby College these days – termed the Broomfield Hall Campus if you will.
Morley Smithy owes its name to the pub as it was formerly the village smithy. It once had a thatched roof and its own brewhouse. The smithy was originally 18th century but it was rebuilt in 1914. Only the cellars from the original building remain intact. There has been a school here since 1816, but the original one, endowed by Emma Darwin of Breadsall Priory was demolished in 1910.
Church Lane is not really much to write home about. That said, there are some fine properties here. Morley certainly does property very well wherever you are within the parish. The relatively low asking price for a house was a surprise here. On entering the drive at the church you come to a 14th century cross, one of two crosses that stood in the vicinity. It stands on what was once the village green. It was restored in 1916 by a member of the Topham family
Parts of the church originated at Dale Abbey and were rescued at the dissolution, and these days the tall spire of St Matthew’s stands proudly over MORLEY.

MORLEY: Leeds Parish #30 of 38
LEEDS PARISH #30: MORLEY
This is a town – and the largest civil parish in the whole of Leeds. It’s so big that it used to command its own municipal borough until being incorporated into Leeds in 1972
Industrially it was famous for its textile industry, most notably the cloth worn by both sides in the American Civil War.
The boundaries also cover the village of Churwell which sits on the main road North towards Leeds
It’s famed for its seven hills, just like those in Rome

Places to see in ( Batley - UK )
Places to see in ( Batley - UK )
Batley is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Batley lies 7 miles south-east of Bradford, 7 miles south-west of Leeds and 1 mile north of Dewsbury, near the M62 motorway. Other nearby towns include: Morley to the north-east, Ossett to the south-east and Brighouse west-south-west. Batley is part of a special EU transformation zone.
The name Batley is derived from Danish, meaning either valley or homestead of bats, or more likely, homestead of the locally prominent Batte family. It is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Bateleia'. After the Norman conquest, the manor was granted to Elbert de Lacy and in 1086 was within the wapentake of Morley. It subsequently passed into the ownership of the de Batleys, and by the 12th century had passed by marriage to the Copley family. Their residence at Batley Hall was held directly from the Crown; at this time the district fell within the Duchy of Lancaster. The population at this time was 30 to 40 people. By the late 14th century, the population has increased to around 100.
There has been a church in Batley since the 11th century. Batley Parish Church was built in the reign of Henry VI (1422–1461), and parts of the original remain. Despite Batley being an ancient settlement, this is all that remains of any great antiquity. Batley Grammar School was founded in 1612 by the Rev. William Lee and is still in existence. Methodism came to Batley in the 1740s and took a strong hold in the town which continued into the 20th century. John Nelson from Birstall was a leading lay preacher in the early Methodist movement. Areas of the town, such as Mount Pleasant, were noted for their absence of pubs due to the Methodist beliefs of the populations.
By 1848 there was a railway station in Batley, and in 1853 Batley Town Hall was erected. It was enlarged in 1905, and is in the Neoclassical style, with a corbelled parapet and pilasters rising to a centre pediment. In 1868 Batley was incorporated as a municipal borough, the former urban district of Birstall was added to it in 1937. During the late 19th century, Batley was the centre of the shoddy trade in which wool rags and clothes were recycled by reweaving them into blankets, carpets and uniforms. In 1861 there were at least 30 shoddy mills in Batley. The owners of the recycling businesses were known as the shoddy barons. There was a shoddy king and a shoddy temple, properly known as the Zion Chapel. This imposing building in the town centre was opened in 1870, and reflected the popularity of the Methodist movement. The chapel is still active today.
Batley is home to a modest commercial and retail centre along Commercial Street. The largest shop here is Tesco which is linked to the main shopping street by a footbridge. There are several chain stores. The Boots the Chemist closed in May 2015. Before the chain collapsed, Batley also had a Woolworth's store, which has now become a small pound shop called JBM bargains.
Batley Shopping Centre is a small shopping-centre which has become somewhat run-down since being acquired by Tesco. The supermarket signpost the shopping centre as a thoroughfare to their supermarket. The main retailers in the shopping centre are Iceland and Asda. They are currently surrounded by many vacant shops.
( Batley - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Batley . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Batley - UK
