⭐ About Postcard & A Pint:
Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint YouTube channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It's just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x

Morecambe Bay - Places to visit, history and wildlife

Morecambe Bay is the largest intertidal area in the UK and is famed for its wildlife. However, there are many other fascinating sights to see. This short video shows highlights from around the bay based on my book ''The Cumbria and Lake District Coast'.

More about the book

In addition to tourist destinations such as castles, museums and and seaside resorts, the book describes the history and wildlife of the coast from Fleetwood to the Mull of Galloway. This includes the development of ports such as Barrow-in-Furness, Lancaster, Ulverston and Workington and the main RSPB and Cumbria Wildlife Trust nature reserves around the coast.

There are also tips on watching the waterbirds for which Morecambe Bay and the Solway Firth are famed and on where to see seals and tidal bores such as the Arnside Bore. The book is a must-read for travellers and local residents alike.

Discover a host of secret seaside haunts along a coastline that stretches from Morecambe Bay to the Solway Firth.... Coast Magazine, Book of the Month, January 2022

A rich guide to the coastal fringes of the region, Kevin’s new book goes beyond a survey to get into the detail of these unique places… Startling photographs and clear images make this a brilliant companion. Cumbria Life Magazine

Morecambe! - Eden of the North (Travel Guide) - Beauty Surrounds, Health Abounds!!

Tyson Fury's home town may have been on the ropes 20 years ago but this Lancashire resort is now firmly on the comeback trail. Take a walk along the promenade, looking out over the Bay towards the mountains of the Lake District, and you'll fall for Morecambe's charms. The renovated Art Deco Midland Hotel anchors the recent rejuvenation of the townscape along with the magnificent Winter Gardens, saved from demolition by volunteers. Street art abounds, with iconic sculptures (don't miss Eric Morecambe) and stunning wall murals showing off the creative talent in and around the town. The future could be even more exciting as Eden Project North gets ever closer to breaking ground. Councillor Caroline Jackson explains more about the plans and the beneficial impact that the Eden Project has already had on the local community. Don't believe the negative press - Morecambe's future is bright.

Morecambe Walk: Town Centre & Beach【4K】

Located on the west coast of England, in the county of Lancashire, and around 25 miles north of Blackpool, is the town of Morecambe.

The town is named after Morecambe Bay, which is the estuary found just south of the Lake District, and the UK's largest expanse of tidal sand & mud flats. Recorded references to Morecambe Bay date back to Roman times where Claudius Ptolemœus (Ptolemy) refers to 'Moriancabris Æsturis' on his maps from the 2nd century. The town of Morecambe itself has a much more recent history.

In 1846 the Morecambe Harbour and Railway Company was formed to build a harbour and a railway on Morecambe Bay, close to the village of Poulton-le-Sands. The station opened in 1848, and by 1850 it had connected to Skipton, Keighley and Bradford. A settlement began to grow around the harbour and expanded to absorb not only Poulton-le-Sands, but the neighbouring villages of Bare and Torrisholme. The settlement became known as 'Morecambe', which was eventually adopted as its official name in 1889.

Morecambe became a thriving seaside resort by the mid 20th century. Its rail connections made it popular with visitors from West Yorkshire and Scotland, although holidaymakers from Lancashire would typically flock to Blackpool instead. In 1939 a holiday camp known as Middleton Towers opened in Morecambe. This was later acquired by holiday park chain Pontins, and would become their biggest resort in the country.

A number of setbacks fell upon Morecambe in the late 20th century. Two piers were lost, namely West End Pier due to a storm and Central Pier due to fire damage. Then in 1994 an ill-fated Mr Blobby theme park opened. At the height of 'Blobbymania' ('90s kids will remember), Noel Edmonds, then presenter of Noel's House Party featuring Mr Blobby (a big inflatable pink guy with yellow spots on and a distorted voice, for the benefit of anyone who missed out), opened the park in Morecambe, only for it to close four months later. The decision to open it in the first place was voted 59 to 1 in favour by local councillors. The sole dissenter quoted on the matter: I said there was no way people were going to queue to see a few small houses and a man in a Mr Blobby suit, they would only go if Noel Edmonds himself was going to be there every day. And no, this isn't a wind up, it genuinely happened!

Morecambe is represented in sport by Morecambe Football Club. Founded in 1920, they are nicknamed 'The Shrimps' (in reference to the local delicacy of potted shrimp), and have played their home games at the Mazuma Stadium since 2010, when it replaced their former ground, Christie Park.

In 1926 John Eric Bartholomew was born in Morecambe. He is better known by his stage name: Eric Morecambe. During his career in comedy, he teamed up with Ernie Wise to form one of Britain's best-loved double acts: Morecambe and Wise. In 1999 a statue of Eric was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth, which features in the walk shortly after the 13-minute mark.

Other famous people from Morecambe include actress Thora Hird and motorcyclist John McGuinness. Nicknamed 'The Morecambe Missile', McGuinness is one of the most successful Isle of Man TT riders of all time.
