Places to see in ( Rome - Italy ) Chiesa San Pietro in Montorio
San Pietro in Montorio is a church in Rome, Italy, which includes in its courtyard the Tempietto, a small commemorative martyrium built by Donato Bramante. The Church of San Pietro in Montorio was built on the site of an earlier 9th-century church dedicated to Saint Peter on Rome's Janiculum hill. It serves as a shrine, marking the supposed site of St. Peter's crucifixion.
In the 15th century, the ruins were given to the Amadist friars, a reform branch of the Franciscans, founded by the Blessed Amadeus of Portugal, who served as confessor to Pope Sixtus IV from 1472. Commissioned by Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. It is a titular church, whose current title holder, since 1 March 2008, is Cardinal James Francis Stafford.
The church is decorated with artworks by prominent 16th- and 17th-century masters. The first chapel on the right contains Sebastiano del Piombo's Flagellation and Transfiguration (1516–1524). Michelangelo, who had befriended Sebastiano in Rome, supplied figure drawings that were incorporated into the Flagellation. The second chapel has a fresco by Niccolò Circignani (1654), some Renaissance frescoes from the school of Pinturicchio, and an allegorical sibyl and virtue attributed to Baldassarre Peruzzi.
The fourth chapel has a ceiling fresco by Giorgio Vasari. Although there is no grave marker, tradition has it that Beatrice Cenci—executed in 1599 for the murder of her abusive father and made famous by Percy Bysshe Shelley, among others—is buried either in this chapel or below the high altar.
The ceiling of the fifth chapel contains another fresco, the Conversion of St. Paul, by Vasari. The altarpiece is attributed to Giulio Mazzoni, while the funerary monument of Innocenzo Ciocchi Del Monte, Cardinal Giovanni Maria Del Monte and Roberto Nobili are by Bartolomeo Ammannati.
Facade of San Pietro in Montorio, with entrance to the cloister at right. Until 1797, Raphael's final masterpiece, the Transfiguration graced the high altar; it is now in the Vatican pinacoteca. The altar currently displays a copy by Cammuccini of Guido Reni's Crucifixion of St. Peter (also now in Vatican museum). The last chapel on the left contains a Baptism of Christ, attributed to Daniele da Volterra, and stucco-work and ceiling frescoes by Giulio Mazzoni.

Hidden gem near Trastevere in Rome
What is it and how to visit ⤵️
Is this the place where St Peter was crucified?
That’s what it was mistakenly believed for some centuries! But why? ⤵️
According to the documents, St Peter was crucified “inter duas metas”. The “metas” were monuments that looked like something between a pyramid and an obelisk. Metas were placed in the spine of the Circus of Nero, on the Vatican hill.
Due to a mistranslation from the Latin to the vulgar language, “metas” were translated into “pyramid”. You can imagine how this translation totally changed the coordinates of this place!
The pyramids taken into consideration were then: the Meta Romuli, located in the Vatican (that no longer exists) and the Meta Remi, that would be the Piramide Cestia in the Ostiense area today.
Of course later the misunderstanding was cleared. St Peter was crucified on the Vatican, in the Circus of Nero. But thankfully there has been time to commemorate this beautiful place with this little masterpiece of Renaissance by the architect Donato Bramante 🧡
To access the Tempietto you must enter through the Academia de Espana (not through the church). Opening times are Tuesday to Sunday between 10AM and 6PM. Entrance is free and no booking is required

Tempietto Del Bramante / Where Saint Peter was Crucified - Rome Italy - ECTV
Eric Clark’s Travel Videos - Rome Italy - Tempietto Del Bramante / Where Saint Peter was Crucified
From Wikipedia
The small temple of San Pietro in Montorio , also called Tempietto del Bramante , is a small circular building located in the center of one of the courtyards of the convent of San Pietro in Montorio in Rome , on the Janiculum hill; is located in the square of San Pietro in Montorio, 2.
It is considered one of the most significant examples of Renaissance architecture , of which it exemplifies some of the fundamental themes, such as the central plan, the revival of ancient Roman architecture and proportional and geometric research in the relationship between the parts.
The building was commissioned to Bramante by the King of Spain as a dissolution of a vote. Later in the convent complex there was a Spanish congregation and even today a part of the buildings surrounding the temple are the headquarters of the Spanish Academy. Perhaps it was designed in 1502 , but there are some doubts about the years of design and construction, as some, in the absence of documentation, propose to postpone the dating around 1510 , making it be so contemporary to Bramante's major projects [1] . The small building was to celebrate the martyrdom of Saint Peter, which according to a rather late tradition had taken place precisely on the Janiculum [2] .
Since the time of construction the work had great critical success; Serlio [3] ; Palladio [4] considered it worthy of appearing next to the works of the ancients and directly or indirectly influenced many successive architectural works; Vasari depicts it in a fresco in the Sala Regia .
In the seventeenth century the building underwent some modifications, which included the slight raising of the dome, the modification to the lantern and the construction of stairs for access to the crypt. [5]
The small temple, monoptero and periptero , has a cylindrical body, which constitutes the cell of the temple, whose masonry is hollowed out by unusually deep niches, decorated with shells, and marked by pilasters as a geometric projection of the columns of the peristyle . The building is in fact surrounded by a Tuscan-style colonnade raised on steps; on the 16 columns runs an entablature conforming to the indications that Vitruvius gave for the Doric order, with a frieze decorated with triglyphs and metopes . The columns are gray granite ; the other travertine members. The ceiling of the ambulatory is decorated with coffers.
The inside of the cell has a diameter of about 4 and a half meters; more a naos than a space dedicated to liturgical functions; a purely symbolic and commemorative place. The cylindrical shape is somehow transformed by high and deep niches , four of which house small statues of the evangelists. On the altar is a statue of Saint Peter by an anonymous Lombard. The floor is in polychrome marble tesserae, in the Cosmatesque style , the object of a certain revival at the end of the 15th century.
The space is covered with a dome , designed in cement conglomerate (in the manner of the ancients) and placed on a drum adorned with pilasters that continue those of the lower register, but lack the attributes of the architectural order. The lead coating, probably present since the construction, was restored in the 20th century , as in the nineteenth century it had been replaced by brick tiles .
According to the initial plans, the small temple should have been inserted in the center of an unrealized circular courtyard (the current one is quadrangular), so as to highlight the perfect symmetry of the plant and emphasize the centrality of the temple whose structure radiated in the courtyard , projecting the 16 columns in another 16 to form a circular portico, as we can see in a reconstruction of the Serlio . This original design would have allowed the temple to be seen only from a fairly close position, giving the small building a much more imposing and massive appearance, according to a precise perspective research. [6]
The construction is above a circular crypt, probably a remnant of a pre-existing building, whose center indicates the place where the cross of martyrdom would have been planted, which became the ideal axis of the whole building.

The Oratory of Santa Maria, traditionally referred to as the Tempietto longobardo, is established
in Valle. On the north-eastern edge of Cividale del Friuli in the Italian province of Udine, you will find an inspiring and perfectly preserved temple erected under the Lombards' rule.
It is believed to be the most exquisite example of Lombard architecture surviving in Italy that resembles forms and techniques found in the Roman, Ottonian, Lombardy, and Carolingian art.
What is there to observe and encounter in the Oratorio di Santa Maria? Let us tell you about our first-hand experience in exploring one of the finest off-beat places in Italy.
The History and Cultural Significance of Oratorio di Santa Maria
The Oratory was constructed in the 8th century as a part of the Episcopal complex at Cividale del Friuli. It resembles the achievements of the Longobards on Italian lands and the positive relations between Europe and Arab-Muslim countries during those times.
The Monastery of Santa Maria in Valle and the Lombard Temple were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2011 as part of the extended section Italia Langobardorum. Places of power (568 - 774). It includes an overall of seven architectural, pictorial, and sculptural sites that preserve the essential monumental and artistic testimonies of the period and express Lombard culture's universality at its peak.
The Architecture of Oratorio di Santa Maria
The temple's exterior is rhythmic and externally punctuated by a set of arches that outline the building's simple cubic volumes. It has a large portal delineated by an arc and is yet accessed by a side entrance that is reached by passing through a room built in medieval times, probably with a sacristy purpose.
All in all, the temple's exterior is relatively modest, contrary to the interior, which is the core of its beauty and enchantment.
The Fascinating Interior of Tempietto Longobardo
Oratorio di Santa Maria is overflowed with vibrant decorations made of sophisticated substances. These include floral stucco decorations, fresco wall-paintings, marble wall revetments, captivating stone sculptures, and exquisite mosaics.
One of the most fundamental parts of the interior is The so-called Tomb of Piltrude. It comprises two sculptural fragments of the Lombard period dating back to the third quarter of the eighth century. Legend has it that the remains of the abbess Piltrude were preserved in the sarcophagus called with the same name. This is the root of the story of Pilturde herself as the founder of the Monastery.

STUNNING PORTOFINO TRAVEL GUIDE | ITALYS BEST WALK | YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS !
A Lovely Walk Through Italy This is hands down the most beautiful coastal walk that I have ever done. I actaully struggled making this video, as I did'nt what shots to use because I loved them all so much!
So you have to start the day off with an Italian coffee (I ended up having 3 cups... it wasn't my fault I swear!) Then after a coupe of errands in town, we go onto this stunning walk and there is no other word for it!
One of the best things about it for me, was the fact there were hardly any tourists/backpackers there! Unless you were a local who lived in the hills or in the surrounding area, you wouldn't know about this stunning walk!
We ended up meeting Jessie from Australia who was backpacking, and we then ended the day with some great Italian food (including a small food review at the end of the video!)
Enjoy the video! Come and join me on the adventures and subscribe :D

Places to see in ( Montepulciano - Italy )
Places to see in ( Montepulciano - Italy )
Montepulciano is a medieval hilltop town in Tuscany, Italy. Surrounded by vineyards, it’s known for its vino nobile red wine. The Torre di Pulcinella is a clock tower topped by a figure of the Pulcinella, a commedia dell’arte character. On the Piazza Grande is the 14th-century Palazzo Comunale, with a tower offering views of the surrounding countryside. Also here is the Duomo, with a huge triptych above its altar.
Exploring the medieval town of Montepulciano, perched on a reclaimed narrow ridge of volcanic rock, will push your quadriceps to failure point. When this happens, self-medicate with a generous pour of the highly reputed Vino Nobile while also drinking in the spectacular views over the Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia.
