Video of Lake Mineral Wells State Park - Primitive Sites, TX from Charly S.

Charly S.'s Review on The Dyrt:

▶︎ Pleasant hike
This was the perfect place for my first solo hiking/camping trip! I was greeted by friendly, informative staff and paid the $7 day pass fee and $10 for the site. The hike to camp was 2.5 miles with a steep downhill grade the first quarter mile. Other than the first quarter I’d say it was a very easy hike. I saw some wildlife- deer, an armadillo, and a rabbit. I was carrying a 50 lb pack and stopped often for pics, so it took me about an hour and a half to reach the primitive camping area. At the south end of the area there’s a spot marked “A” with plenty of cleared up areas to set up camp. I decided to go a bit further north. There weren’t really any marked spots but there were clear paths and a few places that had obviously been camped at. After some searching I finally found the perfect hammock trees and settled in for the night. At some point I heard some coyotes but other than that it was very quiet and secluded so I slept like a rock! After the hike back to my car I wanted to swim, but the designed swimming area was very small and not secluded at all so I decided to skip the dip. Overall it was a great trip and I’m looking forward to going again sometime!

FAMOUS CRAZY WATER | Mineral Wells, Texas | YouTube Shorts

Crazy Water
Mineral Wells, Texas

The waters of Mineral Wells, TX have been making folks feel good inside and out since 1881.

Legend
The legend goes like this: In late 1881, a woman who suffered from dementia would sit by the well all day drinking the mineral water. People slowly began to notice that the crazy old lady was not so crazy anymore. Had the water from the well alleviated the lady’s “crazies”?

Crazy Water In More Ways Than One: Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Mineral Wells TX

Join us as we explore Lake Mineral Wells State Park and neighboring Mineral Wells, Texas. Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, this area was booming with big name tourists who came to town to drink and soak in the natural mineral waters that were believed to be healing. You can find traces of that history today at the (hopefully soon to be restored) 1929 Baker Hotel ... once the tallest buildings built outside of a major metropolitan area, and the Famous Mineral Water Company (where you can still buy mineral water from their well).

Lake Mineral Wells State Park has an interesting history all its own. Once part of the 1920s Camp Wolter military base, the park contains buildings that were constructed by one of the first Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in Texas who arrived here in 1933.

In this video, we take you on a tour of Lake Mineral Wells State Park and share some of the unique features, the campgrounds, amenities and fun things to do in the area. This is the last video from our adventures with Grammy Kay last summer! We had such a great time traveling with her.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park is operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park | Texas State Parks

Lake Mineral Wells State Park
100 Park Road 71
Mineral Wells, TX 76067

We visit Lake Mineral Wells and review cost of the park, things to inside the park, visit point of interests and visit the town Mineral Wells. If you want to learn more before you visit, watch and come along.

Natural Beauty, Colorful History
Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway sits in the heart of cattle country, near what was once a popular health resort. You will love the area’s history and scenery, but you’ll also enjoy the park’s outdoor amenities: a lake, a rock climbing area, and miles of trails. Just 45 minutes west of Fort Worth – c’mon over!

Things to Do at Lake Mineral Wells State Park
On land, you can camp, hike, bike, ride your own horses, geocache, rock climb, or relax by the lake. On the lake, you can swim (no lifeguards), fish or boat.

Camping
Stay at one of our campsites or screened shelters. We also have 20 equestrian campsites.

Boating
Lake Mineral Wells is a 640-acre lake with a boat ramp. Bring your own boat or rent one at the park. We rent flat-bottom boats with trolling motors, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and rowboats. Call (940) 325-3630 for information. No skiing, tubing or jet skis.

Fishing
Fish here for catfish, crappie, sunfish and large-mouth bass. Choose from six fishing piers scattered around the lake. You do not need a fishing license at this park.

Exploring
Lake Mineral Wells Park trails (12.8 miles) range from easy to challenging, from lakeside to scenic Cross Timbers trails. Or set out on the 20-mile Trailway, with its flat grades and gentle curves. The Trailway and most of the park trails are open to hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Trails may close during wet weather.

Rock Climbing
Penitentiary Hollow is one of the few natural rock climbing venues in North Texas. Climbers and rappellers must check in at headquarters.

Trailway
Man standing on trailway bridge with sign on bridge that says Lake Mineral Wells State TrailwayHikers, bicyclists and horseback riders of all ages and abilities can enjoy the Trailway. Because it is a reclaimed railroad bed, it has flat grades and gentle curves.

From northwest of Weatherford in central Parker County, the Trailway travels 20 miles west to the downtown district of Mineral Wells in eastern Palo Pinto County. It connects to Lake Mineral Wells State Park, where you can camp and picnic.

The Trailway is 20 miles long and 10 feet wide. Two miles of surface from the downtown Mineral Wells trailhead toward the east are asphalt. Finely crushed and screened limestone tops the remaining 18 miles.

The 16 bridges have decks and rails for safety. The Trailway's 500-foot signature bridge allows safe travel over U.S. Highway 180. The bridge, adorned with 104 Lone Stars, meets Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

History
Lake Mineral Wells State Park sits along Rock Creek, a large tributary of the Brazos River. This area was an early home to several Native American tribes, including the Comanche.

Settlers began arriving in the early 1850s, and intermittent warfare occurred until the late 1870s. Rugged terrain and lush native grasses attracted many early-day ranchers to this area, including Charles Goodnight, Oliver Loving and C. C. Slaughter, who ran large herds of Longhorn cattle. Ranching continues to be an economic mainstay of this area.

Taking the cure
Postcard showing the Crazy Water Hotel. In 1877, James Alvis Lynch settled in what is now Mineral Wells. In 1880, he drilled a well on his land. Mrs. Lynch suffered from rheumatism, but after drinking the water from the well, her rheumatism disappeared. The well water seemed to have curative powers.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park (Texas)- Beauty and History

Just an hour west of Dallas/Ft. Worth.
This is a beautiful park with very historical locations nearby.
Coleman Lantern LT 17b RV Travel trailer -Travels

We are traveling in a one of a kind Coleman 17B. The 17B is the lowest priced RV in the market for its size. I tend to think of the 17B as a starter kit that owners can personalize to fit their own needs and tastes. Virtually every one is a “one of a kind” project. We have completed over 50 upgrades or modification on ours.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park

Lake Mineral Wells State Park

The Two Tired Teachers love Lake Mineral Wells State Park. It is one of our favorites. Although we have done a previous video about the park, we want to take a look at it again with our viewers. (If you'd like to see the first video where we talked more about the town, look at the first card in the upper right corner of the screen.)

One of the unique things about the park is the rock climbing area. We believe it may be the only rock climbing in any of our 90 + state parks. If the area has had rain, there will be a sign at the entrance telling you that the rock climbing area is closed.

Lake Mineral Wells State Park is a CCC park. Although the park didn't open until 1985, long after the CCC work program ended, this park has the mark of the CCC on it. You will find many stone picnic tables and benches near the rock climbing area. Those were built by the CCC.

Another unique thing about this park is that the lake is completely contained within the park. What that means to fishermen is that you can fish from a boat on Lake Mineral Wells without having a fishing license. Speaking of water activities, the park rents paddle boards and possibly other water crafts.

For the most part, the campsites are spacious and separated by enough foliage that you don't necessarily see your neighbors. This park has a 30 amp loop, a 50 amp loop, an equestrian area, and tent sites.

Finally, Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway does have a trailway that runs from Mineral Wells to Weatherford. We haven't ridden it all, but we've been quite a few miles on it. The trailway is 20 miles long and 10 feet wide. It's extremely well maintained.

Cross Timbers Trail at Mineral Wells State Park

We hiked 8.10 miles along the Cross Timbers Trail at Mineral Wells State Park in Texas. The trail parallels an old Army base which was pretty cool. Then 4 miles in we climb a large hill which provided some great views! The. We took a snack break and enjoyed coffee on our GasOne stove. It was a great trip. Enjoy!

A Return To Lake Mineral Wells State Park! A Must See Texas State Park!

In late June of 2022 we loaded up Trudy Thunder the super C Motor home and headed out west to visit a few new (to us ) public campgrounds. Our first way point campground was Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
Lake Mineral Wells State Park is one of my all time top 5 favorite Texas State Parks. On my last visit that was also my first visit to this wonderful Texas State Park I did not have time to visit a few of the main points of interest at Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
One of those points that I missed is the Penitentiary Hollow day use area. WOW what a unique place! There are several reasons why I really love visiting Lake Mineral Wells State Park a few of them are tons of wildlife, beautiful clear spring fed lake, the stunning forest and so much more!
