Menai Bridge Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located on the island of Anglesey just off the north coast of Wales is the town of Menai Bridge.
The town is named after the Menai Suspension Bridge linking up to Bangor on the other side of the Menai Strait. The settlement predates the bridge and was formerly known as Porthaethwy, meaning 'harbour of the Daethwy tribe' in Welsh.
The first recorded reference to a ferry crossing in Anglesey dates back to 1292. This provided a means of transporting goods from Holyhead and other parts of Anglesey to mainland Britain - as far as London in some cases. The cattle, however, were made to swim across as the drovers took them to market.
In 1815 an Act of Parliament passed allowing for the construction of the Holyhead Road. Holyhead was, and still is, the principal ferry port between Dublin and Great Britain. The task of designing this road was given to Scottish engineer Thomas Telford. Construction began on his bridge in 1819. By 1824 the main stonework was completed, and by 1826 the bridge was finished and opened to the public. In doing so, stagecoach travel between Holyhead and London was cut down from around 36 hours before to around 9 hours after.
The Menai Suspension Bridge became the first of two bridges linking Anglesey with mainland Wales. The other came in 1850 with the opening of the Britannia Bridge courtesy of railway engineer Robert Stephenson. This made rail travel to Anglesey possible for the first time as the Chester and Holyhead Railway extended west of Bangor and through the island.
In 1858 a railway station opened at Menai Bridge, but was closed in the 1960s due to the Beeching Cuts - a controversial move to encourage road travel. These days, to reach the town from mainland Wales on public transport requires a bus from Bangor. It is worth noting that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is just two miles to the west, with some scenic views for those who like hiking. And if you read that last sentence in one breath, well done! Also if you like hiking, be warned that Menai Bridge to Beaumaris is NOT pedestrian-friendly as the pavements run out in places!

Sydney Australia - The Emerald City in New South Wales - A Beautiful and Full of Life Place to Visit
We filmed these scenes and photos while our visit to Sydney in 2017. The video shows day and night scenes of many famous places around the city, including Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. Further information about important places in the video is given below. We hope you will enjoy and like this video and subscribe to our channel.
Sydney is the capital city of the state of New South Wales, and the most populous city in Australia. Located on Australia's east coast, the metropolis surrounds Sydney Harbour and extends about 70 km towards the Blue Mountains to the west, Hawkesbury to the north, the Royal National Park to the south and Macarthur to the south-west. Sydney is made up of 658 suburbs, spread across 33 local government areas. Residents of the city are known as Sydneysiders. The 2021 census recorded the population of Greater Sydney as 5,231,150, meaning the city is home to approximately 66% of the state's population. Nicknames of the city include the 'Emerald City' and the 'Harbour City'.
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Sydney. Located on the foreshore of Sydney Harbour, it is widely regarded as one of the world's most famous and distinctive buildings and a masterpiece of 20th-century architecture.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge in Sydney, spanning Sydney Harbour from the central business district (CBD) to the North Shore. The view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is widely regarded as an iconic image of Sydney, and of Australia itself. Nicknamed The Coathanger because of its arch-based design, the bridge carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
The Anzac Memorial is a heritage-listed war memorial, museum and monument located in Hyde Park South near Liverpool Street in the CBD of Sydney, Australia. The Art Deco monument was designed by C. Bruce Dellit, with the exterior adorned with monumental figural reliefs and sculptures by Rayner Hoff, and built from 1932 to 1934 by Kell & Rigby. This state-owned property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 23 April 2010.
The Cathedral Church and Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Mother of God, Help of Christians (colloquially, St Mary's Cathedral) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the seat of the Archbishop of Sydney, currently Anthony Fisher OP. It is dedicated to the Immaculate Mother of God, Help of Christians, Patroness of Australia and holds the title and dignity of a minor basilica, bestowed upon it by Pope Pius XI on 4 August 1932.
The Sydney central business district (CBD) is the historical and main commercial centre of Sydney. The CBD is Sydney's city centre, or Sydney City, and the two terms are used interchangeably. Colloquially, the CBD or city centre is often referred to simply as Town or the City. The Sydney city centre extends southwards for about 3 km from Sydney Cove, the point of first European settlement in which the Sydney region was initially established. Due to its pivotal role in Australia's early history, it is one of the oldest established areas in the country.
Darling Harbour is a harbour adjacent to the city centre of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia that is made up of a large recreational and pedestrian precinct that is situated on western outskirts of the Sydney central business district.
