Places to see in ( Marlborough - UK )

Marlborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Wiltshire on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath. Marlborough boasts the second widest high street in Britain, after Stockton-on-Tees.

The town of Marlborough is at the heart of the Church of England Marlborough deanery in the diocese of Salisbury in the province of Canterbury. The rural dean has responsibility for the benefices of Marlborough, Ridgeway, Upper Kennet and Whitton which in total comprise 16 parishes. Of the town's two Church of England parish churches, St Peter's has been made redundant and converted into an arts centre. St Mary's remains in use for worship.

Although once served by two railway lines (the Great Western Railway and the Midland and South Western Junction Railway) the town no longer has any direct rail access. The nearest stations are Pewsey (6.7 m.), Bedwyn (6.9 m.), and Swindon (12.7 m.). Marlborough is well connected by road with the A4 from Hungerford to Calne, A346 from Tidworth to Swindon and A345 from Salisbury meeting there.

Every summer the town of Marlborough holds a jazz festival with local pubs, clubs, hotels and various other venues playing host to live jazz music over the course of a weekend. The Marlborough mop fair was originally a hiring fair for agricultural workers seeking employment, but now has become a travelling funfair.

( Marlborough - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Marlborough . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Marlborough - UK

What to do in England? Blenheim Palace.

Located in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, Blenheim Palace is the famous birthplace of Winston Churchill. Its history started in 1704 when the English nation presented the site to John Churchill, the first Duke of Marlborough. The palace was designed and built between 1705 and 1722 and was nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The palace is still the home of the Dukes of Marlborough, but it is open to the public, and a fee is charged for the visit. The site offers many events throughout the year, such as Christmas at Blenheim Palace. Also, it provides a great structure for a fun day out with parking, toilets, cafes, restaurants and a souvenir shop. It is a really stunning place that appeared in some movies, including Harry Potter. Totally worth the visit.

Tips:
- You can buy an annual pass using the Tesco Clubcard points.
- Even though you have to pay to visit the palace and gardens, Blenheim Palace Park has lots of free areas to walk on (you will only pay for parking). In one of these free areas, you will find the tree featured in the Order of the Phoenix in a flashback scene of Snape at Hogwarts. Add ‘Harry Potter tree’ to Google Maps and you will find it easily.
- Go to Blenheim Palace official website to check up-to-date prices and opening times:

Marlborough Market Town Wiltshire.

Marlborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Wiltshire on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath. It boasts the second-widest high street in Britain, after Stockton-on-Tees. The town is on the River Kennet, 24 miles (39km) north of Salisbury and 10 miles (16km) south-southeast of Swindon.

The earliest sign of human habitation is a 62-foot-high (19m) prehistoric tumulus in the grounds of Marlborough College. Recent radiocarbon dating has found it to date from about 2400 BC. It is of similar age to the larger Silbury Hill about 5 miles (8.0km) west of the town. Legend has it that the Mound is the burial site of Merlin and that the name of the town comes from Merlin's Barrow. More plausibly, the town's name possibly derives from the medieval term for chalky ground marl—thus, town on chalk. However more recent research, from geographer John Everett-Heath, identifies the original Anglo-Saxon place name as Merleberge, with a derivation from either the personal name of Mærle combined with beorg (hill), or meargealla beorg: hill where gentian grows. On John Speed's map of Wiltshire (1611), the town's name is recorded as Marlinges boroe. The town's motto is Ubi nunc sapientis ossa Merlini (Where now are the bones of wise Merlin).
Further evidence of human occupation comes from the discovery in St Margaret's Mead of the Marlborough Bucket, an Iron Age burial bucket made of fir wood with three iron hoops, a top bar and two handles; it also sports bronze bands decorated with human heads and mythical animals, and is now on display at the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes.

England in 4K - England Top 10 Places

England In 4k

England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom . It shares land borders with wales to its west and Scotland to its north. The Irish sea lies northwest of England and the Celtic sea to the southwest.

England is separated from continental Europe by the North sea to the east and the English channel to the south. Tourism plays a significant part in the economic life of England. In 2018, the United Kingdom as a whole was the world's 10th most visited country for tourists, and 17 of the United Kingdom's 25 UNESCO world heritage sites fall within England.

England is the largest of the four home nations that make up the United Kingdom . It is also the most populous of the four with almost 52 million inhabitants.

Number 10. Brighton Brighton, on the Sussex coast, has been a popular beach resort since the mid-19th century. Much of its popularity is due to the proximity to London, making it popular with day trippers. The beachfront is lined with graceful old Victorian homes that today provide tourist accommodations. Visitors will want to walk out on the famous Palace Pier or admire the traditional English gardens.

Number 9. Lake District The Lake District in northwest England’s Cumbria is home to the country’s largest national park. The mountainous region is known for hikes and mountain climbing. It’s a popular tourist destination, attracting more than 15 million visitors annually. The park has the highest mounting in England, Scafell Peak, and the longest lake, Windermere.

Number 8. St Ives Located on the coast, St. Ives may be a former fishing town but it still has the only port in southwestern England’s Cornwall. Today this picturesque town of almost 12,000 is such a popular holiday resort it was named the Best UK Seaside Town in 2010 and 2011.

Number 7. Bath Bath got its name because that’s what it was when it was founded by the Romans in 60 AD, who built baths here because of the hot springs. It reached its popularity peak in the Georgian years when the wealthy flocked here for spas. Besides being famous for its waters, the city also is an excellent example of Georgian architecture.

Number 6. Cambridge Cambridge is an historic city about 80 km north of London that is home to the University of Cambridge, one of the top universities in the world. It was founded in 1209; its students make up almost 20 percent of the city’s 123,000 population. After touring the university, travelers may want to take a boat ride on the River Cam, visit the Fitzwilliam Museum with its huge collection of antiquities, or walk across the Mathematical Bridge.

Number 5. Jurassic Coast Fossil hunters may want to make a beeline for the Jurassic Coast, a section in southern England that runs roughly from Bournemouth to Exmouth. The rocks date back 185 million years to when the continents were crunching up against each other and then drifting apart.

Number 4. Oxford Oxford dates back to Saxon England when it was known as Oxenaforda or a place where oxen crossed a river. Today it is known as home to the oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford University, which dates back to the 12th century.

Number 3. York York is a walled city with a rich heritage located where the River Foss meets the River Ouse. Plenty of exiting sights compete for visitors’ attention as they stroll along the city’s cobblestone streets. One of the city’s landmarks is York Minster. This commanding stone cathedral is filled with remarkable works of art.

Number 2. Stonehenge & Avebury One of the most popular places to visit in England, Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument found in Wiltshire. From about 2500BC, Neolithic and Bronze Age man started to bring gigantic stones from Wales and the Marlborough Downs. It was not until 1600BC that Stonehenge came to be completed.

Number 1. London No superlative is too great when it comes to describing London, the capital of England and the UK. This bustling city is history personified from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace – be sure to watch the Changing of the Guards. Shopping, from Knightsbridge to Carnaby Street, is a must as is riding a red double-decker bus and the “tube,” or subway where one is constantly reminded to “mind the gap. england travel tips cotswolds holidays in england Which places you liked the most comment down below.

You Need To See These Places In Wiltshire

You Need To See These Places In Wiltshire// Wiltshire is one pretty county I'm telling you! Here are some places that are well worth a visit and I'm showing you only a tiny fraction.

If you're a fan of Poldark (who isn't?), you need to visit Great Chalfield Manor which is a National Trust property. And when it comes to quintessential English villages/towns, you will instantly fall in love with Bradford on Avon and Castle Combe. Did you know that Castle Combe has the most romantic hotel too? If you want to book a very special stay, I think The Manor House is perfect. Makes you think of the film The Holiday. I can already picture Amanda and Graham.

Hope you like the video.x

Explore a Charming English Village in Marlborough || West Overton WALK

West Overton is a beautiful village in Wiltshire, about three and a half miles west of Marlborough.

In 1086, the Domesday survey recorded 13 households in (West) Overton. The parish church of St Michael and All Angels was built in 1877–8. Overton manor house, close to the church, is from the 16th and 17th centuries with later improvements; the main wing has a tile-hung upper floor under a thatched roof, and at right angles a former barn is in red brick.

The Merchants House Marlborough Wiltshire.

On the north side of Marlborough high street is the Merchant's House, which is currently under restoration but part of which is open to the public for guided tours. The house was built following the Great Fire of 1653. It was the property of a silk merchant and, rarely for a house of this type in a town centre, still retains its original room pattern. Notable are the wall paintings recently uncovered, which are undergoing conservation. One room painted in a striped pattern, copying silk hangings, is perhaps unique in Great Britain.
