Manzhouli Grand Hotel Hulunbuir
The Manzhouli Grand Hotel (Manzhouli Dafandian) was opened in 1904 by Russians and renovated in 2006, and boasts of a Gothic architectural style. Rooms are available in a variety of types, including presidential, executive, deluxe, superior and standard rooms. Also available are the buffet cafe, multi-functional hall, Lucy culture square and the Cantonese restaurant, offering guests an impressive array of services.

Manzhouli (Chinese: 满洲里) is a sub-prefectural city located in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China (PRC). Located on the border with Russia, it is a major land port of entry. It has an area of 696.3 square kilometres (268.8 sq mi) and a population of almost 250,000.
Manzhouli is my mom’s hometown, in which I spent all my childhood’s summer vacations. It is beautiful and unique. The recent history of ManZhouli is similar to China’s recent history.
In 1901, the China Far East Railway was completed in accordance with the Sino-Russian Secret Treaty of 1896, linking Siberia, northeast China ((Inner) Manchuria), and the Russian Far East. A settlement then formed around Manchzhuriya Station, the first stop within Manchuria for Russians. It was the beginning of the modern city of Manzhouli and the name of Manzhouli came from Russian Манжули (Manzhuli).
In 1927, Manzhouli was designated as a city.
In 1931, Manzhouli came under Japanese control in 1931, and was part of the Empire of Manchuria from 1932 to 1945.
In 1946, it became part of Inner Mongolia under the China.

滿洲里市位於內蒙古自治區呼倫貝爾市西部，北邊與俄羅斯相鄰 。1901年，中東鐵路西部線建成後，建立火車站，因是從俄國進入中國東北地區（當時習慣稱呼「滿洲」）的首站，因此稱呼為「滿洲里站」，俄語為「滿洲里亞」（ Маньчжурия ），音譯成漢語為「滿洲里」。

Shangri-La Hotel is the only international luxury hotel in Manzhouli, which is a city in Inner Mongolia, China. I visited in winter, when the temperature was around -26C (-14F). Fortunately, the hotel provided a luxurious base to stay at while exploring the winter wonderland of Mongolian, Russian and Chinese culture.
