To give you the inspiration you need for your travel itinerary, here’s what I did during my time at lake como, but first some useful tips about Lake Como!
Useful tips and information about Lake Como
- First, it is good to know that Lake Como is very large and that this should not be underestimated. The lake is formed in an inverted Y and the most visited places like Bellagio and Varenna are in the center of the lake.
- Visiting all the different places can be done by taking the ferry and for more distant places there is a hydrofoil, for example from the town of Como to Bellagio.
- Villa's
I will write down some of the villa's and the entre price.
Villa Carlotta 15,- euro's
Villa del Balbianello 23,- euro's
Villa Monastero 13,- euro's
Villa Melzi 8,- euro's
- If you booked a hotel with a swimming pool because you als wan't to relax during your stay at the lake, then keep in mind that the mainland surrounding the lake, consists of mountains. Therefore most towns on the eastern side of the lake are often located at the bottom of the hills like Varenna, Mandello and Lecco. Here the mountain provides shade most of the time during the morning and when the sun is high enough at noon the sun will come out. On the western side of the lake (towns such as Menaggio, Tremezzo, Lenno and Moltrasio), will have sun almost all day. It’s just something to think about if you want to take this into account during your stay.
- Scooter or boat rental.
If you want to see more of the lake and the surrounding villages, it is of course also possible to rent a scooter or to hear a boat for a few hours. One of the nicest things to do is to ride a typical Italian Vespa and drive along the beautiful towns of the lake. In Bellagio you will find the scooter rental company Bellagio Scooters for rent and in Menaggio you will find the rental company Lake Como Scooter Rent.
Do you want to go on the lake with a boat, you can do that and without a license! For more information visit the Bellagio Yacht Experience website
- Boat excursion. Would you rather enjoy a boat tour, the you can also choose for Bellagio Yacht Experience or Bellagio Water Limousines
- Hotel links. We stayed in Hotel Villa Marie, I believe that the price and quality ratio is very good about this hotel and the location is perfect. The facilities are good, the hotel offers a swimming pool with sunbeds, good parking facilities such as a parking garage and a nice breakfast. The walking distance to the ferry is 8 min and the hotel is located in the heart of Tremezzo.
If you have a little more money to spend and want to experience complete luxury then I would recommend you to stay at Grand Hotel Tremezzo. This is one of the most luxurious hotels at the lake and without a doubt the most beautiful hotel we have seen so far.
- Restaurants: I would recommend the following restaurants
Bellagio: Ristorante Suisse, Ristorante Alle Darsene di Loppia and Ristorante Bilacus.
Varenna bar Il Molo, Al Prato Restaurant and restaurant Du Lac.
Tremezzo Ristorante La Darsena and Ristorante La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi in Grand Hotel Tremezzo and La Cucina della Marianna located in Griante.

Mandello del Lario, Lake Como - Italy Walking Tour
The lakeside town of Mandello del Lario is situated in the Province of Lecco, on the shores of Lake Como, between the city of Lecco to its south and Lierna to its north.
Despite being one of the prettiest towns on the lake, a real hidden gem, it's so far evaded the influx of tourists of its famous neighbouring towns, like Varenna.
If you want to stay away from the chaos of peak season, but still visit a beautiful, non-touristy town, Mandello is the perfect place for you!
It's a lively and colourful little town, the picturesque square of Piazza Italia is fringed by open-air restaurants looking out onto the lake.
The town is home to the Moto-Guzzi motorcycle company, one of the most prestigious Italian motorcycle makers. The company's presence has been an integral part of the local economy since it was founded in 1921.

Andiamo alla scoperta del SENTIERO ATTREZZATO del Fiume e della storia di Mandello. Nel periodo feudale, il borgo di Mandello si alleò con Como durante la decennale guerra tra Como e Milano (1118-1127), e per questo fu saccheggiata e incendiata dai milanesi. Nel 1154 Mandello e la torre di Maggiana vengono affidate da Federico Barbarossa a un signorotto locale di nome Alcherio Bertola. Libero comune dal 1160, Mandello si trovò in contrasto con Como per alcune questioni amministrative legate alle funzioni dei rispettivi consoli, divergenze che vennero risolte nel 1167 durante un incontro diplomatico presso la chiesa comasca di San Giacomo.
In seguito, Mandello divenne un contado rurale dell'alto Milanese, feudo comitale e residenza del conte o capitàneo della terra. I conti di Mandello trassero il cognome di famiglia dal nome del borgo: quello dei Mandelli[6] è un casato antichissimo, di primaria nobiltà lombarda.
Nel periodo delle lotte che videro contrapposti i Visconti ai Della Torre, Mandello si schierò dalla parte dei secondi, subendo per questo, nel 1311, l'invasione da parte di Cressone Crivelli, al quale Enrico VII di Lussemburgo aveva affidato in feudo Lecco e dintorni[6].
Nel 1336 Lecco e Mandello passarono sotto il governo di Azzone Visconti. Sotto il suo dominio la vita pubblica conobbe un periodo di ordine e buona amministrazione[6]. L'Azzone fece costruire a Lecco il ponte sull'Adda, il più importante simbolo commerciale e strategico del Ducato milanese. Nel 1342 Mandello dipendeva in modo stabile dalla diocesi di Como. Il 13 febbraio 1398 vengono promulgati ufficialmente gli statuti per il borgo e la sua popolazione; il primo podestà è Giovanni De Bombelli, eletto[6].
Nel 1402 si registra il saccheggio di Mandello da parte del ghibellino Franchino Rusca, signore di Como[6].
Nel 1429 il duca di Milano Filippo Maria Visconti (1402-1447) concede alla terra di Mandello alcuni privilegi che vengono confermati e accresciuti da Francesco Sforza nell'anno 1450. Nel 1449 Bartolomeo Colleoni, condottiero delle truppe veneziane, occupa Mandello, Bellano ed altre Castella della riviera di levante. Nel periodo 1469-70 Mandello viene data in feudo a Tomaso Tebaldi da Bologna[6]. I mandellesi con la Valsassina contrastano la cessione feudale. Nel gennaio dello stesso anno il Colleoni si inoltra nella Valsassina: a marce forzate raggiunge la riva orientale del lago di Como gettandosi sulle terre di Bellano, Mandello ed alcune altre. È in questo frangente che il borgo viene ulteriormente fortificato ed è concluso il vallo[6]. Nel 1480 il Contado della Riviera con Mandello assieme a Bellano e Varenna, e l'anno successivo si aggiunsero Dervio, Corenno e Monte Introzzo.[10], viene dato in feudo a Pietro II Dal Verme, conte di Bobbio, Voghera, Castel San Giovanni e tutta la val Tidone, Pieve di Incino e Valsassina, che muore avvelenato dalla moglie nel 1485, e il feudo di Mandello assieme agli altri della Riviera viene assegnato, non senza contrasti dei cittadini interessati, a Chiara Sforza, figlia naturale di Galeazzo Maria Sforza, vedova Dal Verme.
Nel 1494 Massimiliano d'Asburgo conferma il feudo di Mandello a Chiara Sforza, che sposerà nel 1487 Fregosino Fregoso, figlio di Paolo Fregoso. Nel 1495 Ludovico Maria Sforza detto il Moro, reggente il ducato milanese, annette al ducato il feudo di Mandello e lo infeuda a Gaspare di San Severino, con altre terre. Nel 1499 le terre della Riviera orientale del Lario, con Mandello, vengono date in feudo a Marchesino Stanga, segretario di Ludovico il Moro. Nel 1513 Mandello tributa atto di fedeltà a Chiara Sforza che è reintegrata feudataria del territorio.
Nel 1531 (o 1532[11]) Mandello è teatro di una battaglia che vede contrapposte i soldati del Medeghino alle truppe di Francesco II Sforza[6]. Nello stesso anno, il paese fu colpito da un'inondazione[6].
Nel 1533 Paolo Fregoso, morta la moglie Chiara Sforza, vende tutti i diritti e i privilegi sulle terre di Mandello e altre al cremonese Francesco Sfondrati. Il 23 ottobre 1537 l'imperatore Carlo V conferma il feudo di Mandello e riviera al senatore cremonese Francesco Sfondrati[6]. Fu uno degli Sfondrati, Carlo, a ordinare l'interramento del vallo di Mandello, avvenuto nel contesto di una serie di opere pubbliche promosse dal governo austriaco del Ducato di Milano[6]. La famiglia Sfondrati manterrà l'investitura fino al 1788, anno in cui i Serbelloni faranno domanda per ottenere il Contado della Riviera (a cui apparteneva anche Mandello), ma l'anno successivo le leggi napoleoniche aboliscono ogni vincolo feudale[6].

Mandello del Lario, Lake Como ITALY • 4K 60 fps HDR ASMR
Mandello del Lario is a town at the lake Como. It's not that well known among international tourists, and therefore a lovely place to hang out if you are trying to escape over tourism. This was filmed in October 2023, and it was really hot for the time of the year.
The town is mainly known for being the birthplace of Moto Guzzi, a famous Italian motorbike manufacturer. This walk, however, won't take you next to the factory, we didn't feel the factory was that exciting from the outside, as it wasn't built for motorbike visitors.
Your walk takes you through the old town of Mandello del Lario to the ferry point and to the church. It's a lovely mid-October afternoon, at about 4:30 pm.

The Mandello Tourist Information Center is located on Viale dei Giardini Pubblici, in the Lake area next to Piazza Garibaldi.
For the management of sporting, cultural, recreational and gastronomic initiatives and events, the Municipality of Mandello del Lario is helped by the local Pro Loco Association, which is committed to promoting the territory and provides fundamental organizational support and information.
The Pro Loco Association also runs the Tourist Information Center.
The Municipality of Mandello del Lario established the tourist tax in the period from 1 April to 30 September of each year. The tax is paid for each overnight stay in accommodation facilities located in the territory of the Municipality of Mandello del Lario up to a maximum of 7 consecutive nights. The regulations and the rates applied are available on the institutional portal of the Municipality of Mandello del Lario.
