Over the Mountains Back to Rainy Mae Sot (scooter trip in Thailand)
Returning to Mae Sot from Sam Ngao and the Bhumibol Dam, I had a choice of routes I could follow. I could return the way I had come, which was a small road over the mountains to Mae Ramat and then turning south to Mae Sot. Or I could ride to the city of Tak and follow a larger and busier (and faster) highway from there to Mae Sot.
In the end, with the beautiful weather, I settled on taking the small road back. I had come to Sam Ngao along that road already, but it was so nice that a second trip would be worthwhile. Plus, seeing the scenery from the other direction would make it feel completely new.
I got very lucky with the weather. The sky was clear and blue when I set off. There was a little bit of rain right at the start, but it cleared away in a short time, and the entire ride was under gorgeous skies.
As things turned out, this day was the last sunny day for a very, very long time.

Wisdom Field, Mae Ramat, Tak, Thailand

Wisdom Field - Art & Coffee in Mae Ramat, Thailand
Wisdom Field was a pleasant discovery for me. I stumbled across it just by opening up Google Maps in Satellite View and roaming around. I do that quite often as I look for interesting places in and around wherever I happen to be.
In this case, I had also heard that there was an Old Town neighborhood in the small town of Mae Ramat near Wisdom Field. I originally thought I might visit both, but I found Wisdom Field to be such a pleasant spot that I spent all of my time there.
Wisdom Field was a surprise for me, so I won't say any more about it here. I slowly figured out what the place was all about during my visit, and I recorded all of that. So I will let you do the same through watching the video.

Wisdom Field in Pictures & Video Clips (Mae Ramat, Thailand)
I recently posted a video about a morning I spent at Wisdom Field near Mae Ramat, Thailand. I drove there on my scooter, went for a stroll, fed some fish, looked at some flowers and plants, and enjoyed some coffee and banana muffins.
And in the middle of that video, I included a series of still pictures and short video clips set to music. Just for fun, I thought I'd separate out that portion and post it as a video on its own.

Mae Ka Sa Hot Spring , Tak , Thailand
This hot well of 2 metres wide is located in Tambon Mae Kasa, right in the village. Hot and cool streams meet at this well. Visitors can smell sulphur throughout the village and see slight vapour just above the ground. At an edge of the well, the water is easily seen boiling and its temperature is fairly high. A private room for mineral bathing is available. The village is amidst the beauty of nature encompassed by a high mountain and farming land. To get there: Drive along the Mae Sot-Mae Ramat route, take a turn at around 13-14 Klm to follow the same route to Namtok Mae Kasa for about 7 kilometres and enter into the village towards the hot well.
Length of Thailand (Ep.5) 🇹🇭 Chiang Mai / GRAND TOUR / Tak, Uthai Thani to Kanchanaburi
I drive to Mae Sariang, turn left onto Route 105 and trail 200km south along the Burmese border to Mae Ramat where i come acoss a massive refugee camp.
The next day I head west over the mountains to Tak, take a rest and continue to Kamphaeng Phet Nationalpark. After a quick pit stop at Khlong Lan Waterfall, I head south to Ban Chai Khao Thai-Switzerland in Uthai Thani, continue and get lost in Chainat. Eventually I make it to Kanchanaburi and visit the 7-level Erawan waterfall.
On January 18, 2023, I left Chiang Mai and embarked on a motorcycle tour that ended up being the longest trip I've ever done at 10,000 km.
The first episode documents the first 5 days of the trip:

Day2 : Mountain Route 1175 to Tak
Day 3: Tak + Kamphaeng Phet
Day 4: Uthai Thani + Chainat

The footage from Taksin Maharat Nationalpark Viewpoint + Bhumibol Dam was taken 2 weeks prior to this trip when I was doing the northern part of this route via Mae sot - Tak - Lampang for the first time.

THAILAND: Mae Sot (แม่สอด) & Phop Phra (พบพระ) district in TAK Province (ตาก)
A short trip to แม่สอด (Mae Sot) and พบพระ (Phop Phra), a district in southwestern Tak province (ตาก), to visit my sister and where I lived much of my youth. To get there we took a flight from Bangkok to Mae Sot with Nok Air and the car to go back home.
A little bonus at the end with few images by night of the Sukhothai Historical Park where we stopped on our way back to home.

Coffee Boon (Keto, Vegan & Teddy Bears in Mae Sot, Thailand)
I don't really think I could (or should) embark on a quest to visit every coffee shop in Mae Sot. There are simply too many of them. But I've now been to so many that it started to feel like it had become my quest. I recently rode my scooter to the town of Mae Ramat to go to the Wisdom Field cafe. And on that drive to Wisdom Field, I passed a half dozen other interesting coffee shops. So, one coffee shop visit leads to half a dozen new ones. They multiply over time.
Coffee Boon (or Boon Coffee) is one such place. It is located on highway 105 just north of Mae Sot on the way to Mae Ramat. I never was able to fully understand what this place, but the coffee shop itself was also a restaurant and maybe also a bakery, and it was part of a much larger complex that had a swimming pool, a travel agent, a set of conference buildings and meeting rooms, and, once upon a time, a golf course.
I made a mental note of the location of Coffee Boon, and I hopped on my scooter one day to return and check it out. And I was very glad I did.

Scooter Drive & Tech Talk (Wisdom Field, Mae Ramat)
I spotted an interesting-looking coffee shop about 30 kilometers outside of Mae Sot near the town of Mae Ramat. On Google Maps, it was listed as Wisdom Field.
With some nice weather and being in the mood for a drive, I set off on my scooter to check the place out. I could have waited until I reached Wisdom Field before turning on my cameras, but I had a lot of things on my mind, and I decided to turn the drive into a kind of moto-vlog.
Not surprisingly, the items on my mind had largely to do with my recent struggles with the world of technology. One topic and epic rant led to the next until an hour had passed and I arrived at Wisdom Field.
Luckily, Wisdom Field was a beautiful and interesting place, and the peaceful environment took my mind off my technology obsessions.

Backstreet Bangkok THAI STREET FOOD TOUR 🇹🇭 🍛 BEST MASSAMAN CURRY Biryani and More - Bang Ramat
Today I headed to the unvisited area of Bang Ramat, Taling Chan in Bangkok, an unknown street on the west side of the city near Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market. The highlight of this street is definitely the excellent Thai Muslim, Habsa Islam Restaurant selling amazing Thai street food classics like Khao Mok Gai and Massaman Curry.
I ate Massaman Curry, Khao Mok Gai (Thai Biryani), Sup Gai (Chicken Soup) and Neau Satay (Beef Satay) and all were absolutely fantastic. If you are a big fan of Thai-Muslim food then this would be worth the trip from anywhere this side of the river in Bangkok.

Next up I headed to Nai Bai Noodle for some excellent pork dumpling soup.

I finished up at a new coffee shop called loading caffeine which sells a very good, Indo, Guatemala, Thai blend of coffee.

Bangkok can be a bit overwhelming if it's your first time in the city as it's so big, so I thought I'd do some videos to help break it down into sections so you can get some awesome street food wherever you go.

the road that doesn't exist
My scooter route to northern Thailand started on highway 105 out of Mae Sot. It's the main road to Mae Hong Son.
But I spent some time on Google Maps to look for alternatives on smaller countryside roads. Starting from the town of Mae Ramat, I found a possible route. And it started off much better than I could have imagined.
And then things got a bit more challenging...

5-Snack Challenge at Mae Sot's Weekly Market (Mae Sot, Thailand)
It had been a while since I went out for some deliberate snacking in the form of a 5-Snack Challenge. And the weekly Mae Sot night market (every Saturday night starting around 5 p.m.) seemed a good place to see what snacks caught my eye.

Wat Bang Khae Yai Temple Samut Songkhram - Historic Rama II Mural - Thailand 2022
Built in 1814, there are many historical structures and artifacts within this temple compound. The large Ubosot or ordination hall itself is over 150 years old. Inside is a laterite Buddha image. A square Chedi, or pagoda, is built in the style of the Ayutthaya period and stands in front of the Ubosot. Another seven Dharma Chedis, built in 1872, and are encircled by a wall.
In the monks residence, a mural created during the reign of King Rama II depicts a battle between the Siamese and the Burmese. Wat Bang Khae Yai is located on the bank of the Mae Klong River, at the mouth of the Bang Khae Canal.
It’s a nice stop if you are doing a day trip from one of the floating markets or the railway market. The hidden gem at this temple is the murals painted on the walls of the second story of the wooden temple building that is normally closed to the public.

A Visit to Mae Sot, Thailand
Landslides and Lapdogs - The Mountain Road to Sam Ngao (Thailand)
I had a few days to play with before I needed to be back in Mae Sot. And so, I tossed a few things into a backpack, strapped the backpack to the seat of my scooter, and headed for nearby route 1175 from Mae Ramat to Ban Tak.
Route 1175 winds its way through some beautiful high altitude countryside before coming down out of the hills to the Ping River. From there, I turned left and spent a couple of nights in the quiet village of Sam Ngao before heading south to Tak City.
