Talasnal Schist Village and Castle of Lousã - Portugal Aldeias de Xisto - It's a beautiful outdoor adventure where you can find trails from Talasnal Schist Village to Castle of Lousã, which is located in the Serra da Lousa and surrounded by forest.
We travel to Talasnal Schist Village in October 2019 in gorgeous weather and we also visited the Castle of Lousã as per locals' advice, which has Free parking and also has a Free of the Charge entrance fee.

Hello!
Do you remember my first video? I was at Penedo da Saudade, in Coimbra, where we had a fantastic view over Lousã Mountains and I remember mentioning the Schist Villages. Some of you asked me to go there and do a video about it. Well... the time has come and I am delivering!
I took my sister for her first (ever) visit to the enchanting Schist Village of Talasnal. We went for a hike and started by visiting the (brand new) Castle Walkways and then went through a trail that led us to Talasnal, with plenty of interesting things to appreciate on the way! Upon arriving at Talasnal we were greeted by many four-legged companions, who kept us entertained during our lunch hour and just before we continued our journey through the mountains to explore Louçaínha Beach and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercy!
WOW what a fantastic day hearing the water running and the birds singing, being amazed by big waterfalls, interacting with animals and enjoying the sound of silence! And we could still appreciate the sunset as we drove back home... how lucky are we to live so close to this place?! Lousã is just a 30min drive from Coimbra!

Está é, desde há muito, a Aldeia do Xisto da Serra da Lousã que tem dado mais visibilidade e carisma ao conjunto. Pela sua dimensão e disposição, mas também pelos muitos pormenores das recuperações das suas casas. E também pela forma como a aldeia nos seduz pela boca.
A fonte e o tanque emitem a melodia que acompanha a nossa visita. As casas decoram-se com os ramos das videiras.
A ruela principal acompanha o declive da encosta, num percurso íngreme. Dela derivam quelhas e becos, que criam um ambiente de descoberta que todos gostam de explorar à espera da surpresa de um novo recanto.
Descobrir esta aldeia representa mergulhar no mundo mágico da Serra da Lousã e embrenhar-se numa vegetação luxuriante por onde espreitam veados, corços, javalis e muitas outras espécies. Aqui reina a Natureza, sensível, que pede respeito. Mas que permite inúmeras possibilidades de lazer e de desportos ativos. Aqui sente-se o pulsar da terra e a sua comunhão com os homens quando se avistam ao longe as aldeias. Parecem ter nascido do solo xistoso, naturalmente, como as árvores.

This is, for a long time, the Schist Village of Serra da Lousã which has given more visibility and charisma to the group. For its size and layout, but also for the many details of the recoveries of its houses. And also for the way the village seduces us by the mouth.

Happy New Year to all our lovely viewers! We wish you all a fantastic 2023!!! Join us in Episode 10 for an update on Dave's house renovation where he has taken down two chimneys. I visit Lousã Castle and River Beach and take in the breath-taking views and scenery. Sadly a good Portuguese friend of ours passed away this week. I say goodbye to him at the hilltop chapel and Religious Sanctuary `Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Piedade` in Serra da Lousa, Coimbra.

Aldeia de Xisto Candal - Lousã, Coimbra
🚍 A aldeia do Candal dista 10 km da Lousã e encontra-se na Serra da Lousã, na vertente ocidental da serra onde é refrescada pela Ribeira do Candal. A maioria das construções da aldeia dispõe-se na encosta exposta a nascente, outras dispõem-se ao longo das outras encostas, todas convergindo para um mesmo ponto onde também se encontram as linhas de água. Estrategicamente colocada junto à EN236, que liga Lousã ao ponto mais alto da Serra (Trevim, 1204m) e a Castanheira de Pera, visitantes são uma vista comum nesta aldeia e onde são recompensados de uma belíssima vista sobre o vale depois de subirem as suas ruas inclinadas. Esta aldeia está incluída no Sítio de Importância Comunitária Serra da Lousã – Rede Natura 2000. Integra a União de freguesias de Lousã e Vilarinho.

A hike to Portugal's amazing Aldeias do Xisto (schist stone villages) is a wonderful way to imagine what village life was once like in Central Portugal. Stone houses cling to hillsides and winding paths hold many surprises, including incredible mountain views. Some of these ancient schist villages can be driven to just outside Lousã, but some can only be reached by hiking on the marked trails. They are excellent places to visit while in #Portugal and well worth the effort!
