Located on Lake Iseo in northern Italy, a small private island Loreto is famous for its castle. A monastery, built here the end of the 5th century.
However, finally, people abandoned it in the 16th century. Meanwhile, the island, after changing several owners, belonged to Royal Navy captain Vincenzo Richeri who built a castle in 1910 and a marina with two small lighthouses.
Recently, the island became famous thanks to George Clooney, who already having residence nearby, was going to buy it, but he changed his mind.

Loreto in Le Marche - Markets, Festivals and a Horse Race!

We spend some time in Loreto, Le Marche. It is on the Adriatic Coast and not a popular tourist spot.* The food is great, the countryside is super pretty and everyone we met was friendly.

*OK, there were some crowds in Loreto on the weekend we were there. But only because there was a big festival or 3 going on in town. The other places were calm and, for the most part, tourist free.

We touch on other spots in the area but stay tuned for another video with the side trips we took.

Eat at Trattoria Norma and visit the Pretty Bar - those were our two favorite places in town. Norma has great food and friendly staff and the Pretty Bar is a local bar that is a great place to get an aperitivi, snacks or just hang out.

Unfortunately, the apartment we stayed in is no longer being rented out. I bet you could find another nice place though!

The city developed around the famous Basilica which houses the famous relic of the Holy House of Nazareth where, according to tradition, the Virgin Mary was born and lived and where she received the announcement of the miraculous birth of Jesus.

From the first centuries of the Christian era, tradition affirmed that the small abode of the Virgin was located in Nazareth, where she was born, grew up, where the announcement of the Archangel Gabriel took place and where she lived until her wedding with Joseph.

After the Resurrection, the Apostles would gather in this house and celebrate the Eucharist in accordance with the teaching of Jesus.

At the beginning of May 1291, Nazareth and all of Palestine were the domain of the Mamluks of Egypt. According to tradition, some angels took the Holy House and carried it off in flight.

On May 10, 1291 the angels left the house in Trsat, near the city of Fiume.............................................................................................................................

The Sanctuary of the Holy House of Loreto | Italy | Basilica Della Santa Casa | Marian Shrine

For More Details The Sanctuary of the Holy House of Loreto
Visit :

The Sanctuary of the Holy House of Loreto, Italy (Our Lady of Loreto & The Holy House of Loreto – Basilica della Santa Casa) is a Catholic place of pilgrimage in Loreto, Italy, containing the house in which the Virgin Mary lived.

The Holy House of Our Lady of Loreto is “a rest for the soul”, a place to meet God, and sometimes the inspiring reason and source of strength for new enterprises. A symbolic place of Christianity and home to the Holy House of Nazareth where Mary was born. A destination for pilgrims and art lovers.

It is the third largest shrine to Mary in Europe, next to Lourdes and Fatima. The ministry of the shrine is the hospitality shown to pilgrims especially through the sacrament of penance. The splendid City of Loreto, tucked inside the countryside of the Marches Region, owes its fame to the Sanctuary where the Santa Casa della Vergine Maria (Shrine of the Holy House of the Virgin Mary) is preserved and venerated. It is a holy place defined by Pope John Paul II as “the true Marian heart of Christianity.”

1. Rome
Image Credit: Christopher Czermak on Unsplash; Vatican City, a perfect backdrop for your couple photos!

Let's start off with the capital city of Italy, Rome. Rome is rich in culture and history, a city where you can indulge in Romans art and architecture. One of the best ways to explore the city is on a Vespa. Go ahead and rent a Vespa if you have a license and explore Rome with your significant other. Ride down to Trevi Fountain, through the cobbled streets of Trastevere and Vatican City. These places make a perfect backdrop for your couple photos too, apart from the great memories that you can make there. Remember to take lots of photos!

2. Venice
Image Credit: Damiano Baschiera on Unsplash; The famous Gondola ride where you could enjoy the sunset with your loved ones.

When you mention Venice, what comes to mind would definitely be the Gondola ride down the Grand Canal. Of course, nothing can beat a Gondola ride through the sunset where you could just enjoy this romantic little moment with your loved ones.

3. Verona
Image Credit: Alessandro Visentin on Unsplash; Verona, the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Known to be the city of love, Verona is the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Tour around the city to catch a glimpse of the location settings of this famous love story.

4. Amalfi Coast
Image Credit: Gabby J on Unsplash; The colorful houses sit upon staggered cliffs in Amalfi Coast.

If you are looking for a serene honeymoon location, then Amalfi is a perfect city for you. The colorful houses sit upon staggered cliffs with a coastline of turquoise water, making every spot in this city picturesque. A laidback trip with the spouse is best enjoyed at any of the sandy beaches here in Amalfi.

5. Lake Como
Image Credit: Damian Chojnacki on Unsplash; Lake Como, a must-visit tourist spot!

Lake Como is deemed as one of the most picturesque destinations for couples. The unique shape of the lake which is like an inverted Y, with a mountainous backdrop, will give you the best honeymoon retreat. Lake Como is always swarming with locals and tourists, so if you want to choose Lake Como as your honeymoon destination, be ready to brace the crowd!

6. Monte Isola
Image Credit: Ouael Ben Salah on Unsplash; Lake Iseo, one of the attractions in Monte Isola.

If you want to experience the pleasures of life with your spouse, give Monte Isola a try. It is not only one of the best honeymoon getaway but also a great escape from reality. Cars are banned in Monte Isola, so your only option to explore the island is by the small bus or cycling. Isn't it fun to be enjoying every crook of what life has to offer with your loved ones in this manner?

7. Cinque Terre
Image Credit: Mika Korhonen on Unsplash; Stunning views at Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cinque Terre is another area in Italy for those adventurous couples. Comparing it to Monte Isola, you can actually find public transport here at Cinque Terre, and you can rent a car if you want to. But we suggest skipping those and explore Cinque Terre by foot to experience the beauty of what this area has to offer.

8. Florence

Being one of the major cities in Italy, Florence is home to Renaissance art and architecture. If you and your spouse would like to indulge in some history, art, and culture, Florence has so many to offer.

9. Milan

But aside from that, Milan offers historical architecture such as the Milan Cathedral and Castello Sforzesco. expo 2020

Some Catholic Sites and Spots in Rome

No where else than in Rome you can find so many reminders of the history of the Catholic Church and so many beautiful churches and monuments. And much of Rome is easy to walk. Many of these locations are within 10-20 blocks of one another, so if you pace yourself (perhaps stop for a cup of cappuccino along the way) you can easily visit many of these places on foot. Of course if you are with an organized tour they will probably provide your own private transportation. Check in advance to find out--especially if you have mobility problems--but don't let that keep you away.

A word of warning if you plan to contract with a local tour guide in Rome. Some guides are excellent and some are very poor. In addition, some can be quite anti-Catholic. Comments such as these items were stolen from.....and brought to Rome or the use of the word legend rather than tradition will give the traveler a biased and in-accurate experience. Be sure to check out any company and/or tour guide in advance as much as possible.

And, be aware, that Italy has strict licensing laws concerning guides. A guide might be licensed for Assisi, but not Rome, or vice-versa. If you use an unlicensed guide and he gets stopped by the authorities, your tour might come to an abrupt halt!

In this video we take a sneak preview for instance to Santa Maria di Loretoption, Santi Cosma e Damiano, Virgin Maria's Statue, Chiesa di San Giacomo in Augusta and Chiesa di Gesù e Maria.

Rome to Assisi: A Day Trip by Train

A day trip from Rome to Assisi should be high on your list if you're heading to Italy!
Assisi is a pretty large, medieval Italian hilltop city, which you can get to relatively easily from the Roma Termini train station.

It'll take at least two hours to get from Rome to Assisi by train, depending on which route you take. Look on the schedule (Google Maps, for example) for direct trains from Rome to Assisi, and for the return trip from Assisi to Rome.

The cost will be 12 to 18 Euros each way, depending on which class of train ticket you buy to get from Rome to Assisi.

You'll enjoy this day trip, and everything Assisi has to offer, from the old winding cobblestone streets, to the restaurants, to the local shops. Assisi's Duomo (cathedral) is a main draw, and don't forget to hike up to Rocco Maggiore, the old fortress, for beautiful views of the Italian countryside.
