The Rihour Place is an urban public space of the city of Lille in the French department of Nord . In the city center and adjoining the Place de General de Gaulle , it owes its name to the palace Rihour , which overlooks the square. It is served by the Rihour station , on line 1 of the Lille metro .
Rihour is mentioned for the first time in 1248; it is an island formed by one of the main arms of Deûle. Following the removal of the magistracy from the aldermen hall to the Rihour palace in 1664, Charles de Renaucourt, compared for theft of horses and other crimes. The man is hanged on July 12, 1664 at a waistcoat in square
Place Rihour is accessible through the line 1 of the metro Lille which directly serves as the station Rihour is just below. The place is registered LR13 among the islands grouped for the statistical information (IRIS) of Lille , such as the INSEE established them in 1999
Every year, on the first weekend of September, the Braderie de Lille also settles in Rihour Square. Every year, since 1995, the Lille federation of trade of crafts and services (FLCAS) organizes with the assistance of the city of Lille , the Christmas market. It includes about 80 cottages. The big wheel that accompanies the event is located on the Place du General-de-Gaulle .

Villeneuve-d'Ascq is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. With more than 60,000 inhabitants and 50,000 students, it is one of the main cities of the Métropole Européenne de Lille and the largest in area (27.46 km²) after Lille; it is also one of the main cities of the Hauts-de-France region. Built up owing to the merger between Ascq, Annappes and Flers-lez-Lille communes, the new town is the cradle of the first automatic metro system of the world (VAL).
Villeneuve-d'Ascq is nicknamed the 'green technopole' thanks to the implantation of many researchers - the campus of Lille University of Science and Technology, Charles de Gaulle University – Lille III and many graduate engineering school - and companies in a pleasant living environment. Owing to its activity centres, its Haute Borne European scientific park and two shopping malls, Villeneuve-d'Ascq is one of the main economic spots of the Hauts-de-France region; multinational corporations such as Bonduelle, Cofidis and Decathlon have their head office there.
Outside its academic, scientific and business facilities, Villeneuve-d'Ascq is mostly known because of its sporting events – two stadiums (Stade Pierre-Mauroy and Stadium Lille Métropole) are located there and some of its sport teams are playing in the top division; its museums – the most famous is the one of modern, contemporary and outsider art (the LaM); its green ways and its medical facilities for disabled people.
Its name means new city of Ascq in French and is derived from the Flemish word for ash. The name of the city is generally written without the customary hyphen. The city counts approximately 10 km2 (3.9 sq mi) of greenspace, lakes, forests and arable lands. It is located between Lille and Roubaix, at the crossroads of the principal freeways towards Paris, Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels.
The roots of the city can be traced back to Celtic Gaul, and are anchored in two feudal mounds, a Gallo-Roman site and a Carolingian one. Its site was selected in the 1960s to accommodate the new town of Lille-Est, which was to channel the development of the agglomeration. The commune of Villeneuve-d'Ascq was created in 1970 by the amalgamation of the communes of Ascq, Annappes and Flers. Its name evokes at the same time the new city and the memory of Ascq, martyr city of 1 April 1944, date on which the Nazis massacred 86 men, see the Ascq massacre. The city's merger with Lille was contentious and failed twice (1972 and 1976).
Having succeeded Gérard Caudron as mayor from 1977 to 2001, Jean-Michel Stievenard and his team wish to maintain balances the environnement and the economic development, the greenery and technology, the daily wellbeing and the great projects, the social one and quality, opening on the its internal comfort and rest of the world, its finance and high degree of public utility. The mayors of Villeneuve-d'Ascq since 1977 have been members of the Socialist Party (Parti socialiste).In 2008, the local elections brought back to the city council Gerard Caudron as mayor. Villeneuve-d'Ascq is the seat of the canton of Villeneuve-d'Ascq.
As a part of the Métropole Européenne de Lille, Villeneuve-d'Ascq is connected to Lille city centre by a VAL, a type of fully automatic (driverless) light rubber-tired metro. The VAL metro line runs through Villeneuve-d'Ascq from Quatre-Cantons and Cité Scientifique stations and drives up to Lille historical city centre and railways stations in about ten minutes.

Serene hike to the Lake Bouillouses Natural Site in Pyrenees-Orientales, France
It was the first day of our 2 day hike to the Pic Carlit (2921m). This bright sunny day started at the camping Pla de Barres and we planned to walk around 10 kms to the lake Pradeilles.
We were so excited to do this hike as it's been a long time since we ascended the peak Puigmal last year. All the first part of the trail was a very easy and relaxing walk along the banks of the river Tet. It is one of our favourit type of routes where you really get to enjoy the shadow of the forest and the water flowing nearby. It's been really tempting to get in the water and to take the bath in the river as there were some deep places where the water could be quite warm. The ground under our feet was very soft and bouncy to step at because of the amount of peat in it and it was such a nice feeling. Sometimes the trail was becoming very muddy and slippery but most of the time it was following the little forest paths. We met lots of beautiful flowers and greenery on the way as well as cows and horse pastures. And this land is known to be one of the best pasture lands in the region. We guess it's because of the abundance of water and thus lots of grass for the cattle. We tasted some wild strawberries and they were very sweet and delicious. Then to our sight opened up the view of the mountain range in the distance and one of them was our goal -Pic Carlit. The day was quite hot as it was the start of August and we were really glad to see the clouds coming out at one point. And we learnt throughout this year of hiking that the clouds are the blessing for a hiker and not necessarily mean the bad weather even though the footage can look less bright and cheerful. Closer to an end we had to conquer a steep uphill and got out to the lake Pradeilles. There we found a very nice place to camp right at the lakeside and we were glad to see the signs of the camping allowed in this area. This way we felt more secure and not concerned about hiding our tent or anything. And we were lucky to get a very picturesque spot all to ourselves even though there were lots of people hiking around. So we put up our tent, collected some water from the lake, cooked and ate our dinner and after watching the sun hiding behind the peaks we were out to sleep. And the next day was promising some new exciting adventures...

Dunkirk is a coastal city in northern France. The Dunkirk 1940 Museum documents Operation Dynamo, the WWII evacuation of Allied soldiers from the city's beaches. The waterside Musée Portuaire (Port Museum) has historic ships, including the Duchesse Anne, a 3-masted sailing ship built in 1901. The striking LAAC is a contemporary art museum with a sculpture garden. Resorts line the soft sands of Malo-les-Bains beach.
Third port in France and hometown of the famous privateer Jean Bart, Dunkerque boasts a rich maritime history. The port museum, situated in a former tobacco warehouse, presents the history of the port of Dunkirk. Three boats can also be visited: the three-master Duchesse Anne, the barge Guilde and the lightship Sandettie. After visiting the museum and strolling along the quays of the Bassin du Commerce, a boat trip is a good way of exploring the port and its different installations.
Besides this port heritage, Dunkirk has two belfries that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: on Saint-Éloi church and the town hall. The Fine Art Museum houses painting collections of the Flemish, French, Dutch and Italian schools. As well as these many places of interest, relaxing is also on the agenda – on the beautiful fine sand beach of Malo-les-Bains, nicknamed the queen of the northern beaches. Every January and February, the famous Dunkirk carnival livens up and brings colour to the streets of the city.
A destination for both seaside, nautical and festive, Dunkerque welcomes you with open arms. Third port of France, the first French seaport of the North Sea, Dunkerque is a land of welcome, a tourist destination with unusual beauty. At the heart of a remarkable dune area, the sandy beaches stretch as far as the eye can see for miles, surrounded by 600 hectares of beautifully preserved dunes where flora and fauna thrive freely and where l The oyat undulates with the wind.
Dunkerque has two belfries classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. The Belfry Saint-Eloi is open all year round. The port museum has a rich collection of the maritime history of the territory. Lille is a city in 🇫🇷 northern France 🇫🇷 near the border with Belgium on the river Deule. It is the capital of both French Flanders and the Northern Department, as well as the Hauts-de-France region. Capital of the Hauts-de-France region and City of Art and History, Lille has a remarkable architectural and cultural heritage. The historic district, rich in monuments, the Flemish facades and pleasant walking paths, really invite you to walk. The Old Stock Exchange, overlooking the famous Grote Markt, is a beautiful building in Flemish baroque style dating from the 17th century. This jewel of Old Lille is made up of 24 houses set around a charming courtyard. The Old Stock Exchange, a busy place, in the center of which stands the column of Déesse, is surrounded by beautiful buildings. The city is mainly called 'Rijsel' in Flanders, in the Netherlands the French name 'Lille' is more common.

Rijsel is een stad in 🇫🇷 Noord-Frankrijk 🇫🇷 nabij de grens met België aan de rivier de Deule. Het is de hoofdstad zowel van Frans-Vlaanderen en van het Noorderdepartement, als van de regio Hauts-de-France. Lille, hoofdstad van de regio Hauts-de-France en Kunst- en Geschiedenisstad, heeft een opmerkelijk bouwkundig en cultureel erfgoed. De historische wijk, rijk aan monumenten, de Vlaamse gevels en aangename wandelpaden, nodigen echt uit om te wandelen. De Oude Beurs, met zicht op de gekende Grote Markt, is een prachtig gebouw in Vlaamse barokstijl daterend uit de 17e eeuw. Dit juweeltje van Oud-Rijsel is samengesteld uit 24 huizen die rond een charmante binnenplaats liggen. De Grote Markt, een drukke plaats, waar in het midden de zuil van Déesse opgericht staat, is omringd door mooie gebouwen. De stad wordt voornamelijk in Vlaanderen 'Rijsel' genoemd, in Nederland is de Franse naam 'Lille' gebruikelijker.

Lille (French pronunciation: [lil] ( listen); Dutch: Rijsel [ˈrɛi̯səl]) is a city in the north of France. It is the principal city of the Lille Métropole. Lille is situated in French Flanders, on the Deûle River, near France's border with Belgium. It is the capital of the Hauts-de-France region and the prefecture of the Nord department.
The city of Lille, to which the previously independent town of Lomme was annexed on 27 February 2000, had a population of 226,827 as recorded by the 2009 census.[3] However, Lille Métropole, which also includes Roubaix, Tourcoing and numerous suburban communities, had a population of 1,091,438. The Eurometropolis Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai, which also includes the Belgian cities of Kortrijk, Tournai and Mouscron, had 2,155,161 residents in 2008.[4][5] It is the fourth largest urban area in France after Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.
