Head to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, one of the most iconic landmarks near Lijiang. This stunning mountain offers breathtaking views and opportunities for hiking, cable car rides, and even skiing in the winter. The snow-capped peaks and pristine landscapes make it a must-visit for nature lovers.
Visit Black Dragon Pool Park, a peaceful park with a large pond that reflects the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background. The park is known for its serene atmosphere, traditional pavilions, and the iconic Moon-Embracing Pavilion. It’s a great spot for photography and a leisurely walk.
Explore the Mu Family Mansion, once the residence of the ruling family of Lijiang. The mansion showcases beautiful traditional architecture and offers insight into the history and culture of the Naxi people. The complex is surrounded by lovely gardens and provides great views of the old town.

For a spiritual experience, visit the Yufeng Temple, located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. This Tibetan Buddhist temple is famous for its ancient camellia tree, which blooms with hundreds of flowers in winter. The peaceful surroundings and rich history make it a special place to visit.

Top 10 Villages to Visit in China - Historic Towns and Countryside (Travel Video)
Welcome to China’s villages and historic towns. Often touted for its ever changing city skylines, China’s countryside shows a very different side of the country. From beautiful riverside villages to snow covered mountain towns. From mysterious tulou (earthen buildings) to awe-inspiring rice terraces. Traveling rural China can be an eye-opening experience.
I spent more than 18 months in China, spread over the course of a decade and a half. In the last years, I started filming the places that I traveled to, using regular cameras and drones. All footage in this travel video is shot by myself between 2010 and 2019.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:
We start off this journey in Yuanyang, a spectacular mountain region where you can find some of the world’s most jaw-dropping rice terraces. Staying with local families is a great way to explore the area, filled with breathtaking landscapes and friendly villages.
Xuexiang is located in the North of China, and is mostly known for its extreme Winter weather, with freezing temperatures and layers of snow. It’s a popular tourist attraction and beautiful sight. The ‘tulou’ buildings in Fujian province are the next destination. These structures were used by the local Hakka people as defense against rivaling communities and bandits. While many still function as homes, some are now used as restaurants and hotels for tourists.
Lijiang is one of China’s most beautiful historic towns, with classic architecture and narrow lanes that can be explored for days. Nearby Dali is worth a visit for its incredible Three Pagodas and Buddhist temple. We travel onwards to Xiahe, a tranquil town just outside Tibet proper. Join monks and pilgrims on traditional koras, and soke up Tibetan culture.
Yangshuo, on the banks of the Li River, might be one of China’s most famous villages, surrounded by mesmerizing limestone hills and mountains. It also provides a good insight into farming life in the country (you can rent bicycles and motorcycles for nice day trips). Shaoshan is a somewhat odd place. It’s the birthplace of Mao Zedong, regarded as the founder of the People’s Republic. The village is a popular stop on the ‘Red Tourism’ trail, a government propaganda campaign.
Fenghuang is a stunning ancient village in the same Hunan province, with incredible architecture, including stone bridges and towers, stilt houses, and a city wall. The next spot on my list is Zhujiajao a popular ‘water town’, not far from Shanghai.
We finish this tour in Pingyao, perhaps the best preserved walled town (or small city) in the country. It used to be an important center of trade and finance, and it’s fascinating to walk the quiet neighborhoods and intriguing alleyways.

10 Best Places to Visit in China - Travel Video
Check out all the places seen in this video:
China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:
Old Town of Lijiang, Yunnan, China [Amazing Places 4K]

Lijiang Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Lijiang in China.
Known as the Venice of the Far East, Lijiang is an historic old Chinese town in the northwest province of Yunnan. It was the centre of the Naxi, a Tibetan-Tobirmanic nation that had an impressive and unique culture. Dayan, Lijiang's old town, contains an intriguing variety of canals and waterways. It developed at the beginning of the 12th century, during the Late Song epoch. The picturesque centre of the old town of Dayan is an architectural jewel. Numerous streams and three rivers flow through the historic part of the town and there are several beautiful stone bridges that date back to the time of both the Ming and Qing dynasties. For over 470 wonderful years of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties each of the Naxi rulers came from the Mu family and for more than twenty-two generations life in and around Lijiang was led by this family until in 1723 the Qing Dynasty appointed a new government, thus the Mu era came to an end.
