Connecticut is rich in history, nature, art, and beauty. There is truly something for everyone. While many people are drawn to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos each year, there is much more in this state. There are several beaches at the shore, state parks and forests throughout the state, and many smaller gardens. Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam is an excellent family destination. So is the Essex Steam Train and River Boat Ride in Essex.
Understand about History of Connecticut.
Connecticut was one of the original 13 colonies of the United States. It was the fifth state to ratify the constitution in 1788. Over the following centuries, the state became a manufacturing center. It supported the war effort during the Civil War and the World Wars. Today, Connecticut is one of the wealthiest states in the union and is the home to many businesses.
Understand about Geography of Connecticut.
The State of Connecticut is divided in half by the Connecticut River, the largest river in New England. The state's general geographic regions can be understood as a set of quadrants, with Hartford, the state's capital, acting as the CenterPoint. Within the immediate vicinity of Hartford are the large towns of Manchester, New Britain, Bristol, Meriden, and Middletown, which have close ties with the capital, and the state's primary airport, Bradley International, 15 miles north of Hartford, in Windsor Locks. Looking beyond the heartland, the state's southeastern part has close ties to New York. It is highly developed and urbanized, including Bridgeport and New Haven and several historically affluent towns such as Stamford, Darien, and Greenwich. To the North of the urban agglomeration can be found the city of Danbury, the gateway to the state's rural northwest, and the manufacturing city of Waterbury. Moving along the shoreline, the state's southeastern part becomes significantly less urbanized than the southwest. It includes many of the state's fine beaches. This region consists of the historically important ports of Mystic, Groton, and New London and the crossroads city of Norwich. The northeastern part of the state, known to locals as the Quiet Corner, is very rural, with few significant population centers, but includes many historic towns, scenic parks, and woodlands. The largest city is Willimantic, in the southern part of the region, with the towns of Putnam and Killingly/Dayville acting as local centers of activity. The University of Connecticut in Storrs can be seen as a part of this region. The Northwestern part of the state is also very rural, especially in the northwestern corner. This region is known for its beautiful natural scenery, particularly hills and highlands and the Housatonic River, attracting visitors and campers from near and far. The region's largest town is Torrington. Several notable towns, such as Kent and New Canaan, are known for their affluent residents. The largest body of water in the state, Candlewood Lake, is in this region, as is the state's highest point, the slope of Mount Frissell (2,379 ft), on the border with Massachusetts.
Overall, the state contains eight counties and 169 towns and cities.
Understand the weather in Connecticut.
Like most of New England, the weather in Connecticut is varied with the seasons. It can be highly unpredictable in the spring and fall months. The weather in Connecticut is generally stable compared to many other parts of the country. Dangers that plague many country regions are not a danger here.
It is recommended to bring clothes for various temperatures when visiting and closely check the weather report. Although there are periods of little or no rain, a raincoat or umbrella are good items to pack. Warm clothes in the winter and light clothes in the summer are also necessary. However, it is recommended to pack a light jacket, even in the summer months.

New London Connecticut CT walk and drive around
From Wikipedia
Colonial era
The area was called Nameaug by the Pequot Indians. John Winthrop, Jr. founded the first English settlement here in 1646, making it about the 13th town settled in Connecticut. Inhabitants informally referred to it as Nameaug or as Pequot after the tribe. In the 1650s, the colonists wanted to give the town the official name of London after London, England, but the Connecticut General Assembly wanted to name it Faire Harbour. The citizens protested, declaring that they would prefer it to be called Nameaug if it could not be officially named London.[5][6] The legislature relented, and the town was officially named New London on March 10, 1658.
American Revolution
The harbor was considered to be the best deep water harbor on Long Island Sound,[7] and consequently New London became a base of American naval operations during the American Revolutionary War and privateers where it has been said no port took more prizes than New London with between 400–800 being credited to New London privateers including the 1781 taking of supply ship Hannah, the largest prize taken during the war. Famous New Londoners during the American Revolution include Nathan Hale, William Coit, Richard Douglass, Thomas and Nathaniel Shaw, Gen. Samuel Parsons, printer Timothy Green, and Bishop Samuel Seabury.
New London was raided and much of it burned to the ground on September 6, 1781 in the Battle of Groton Heights by Norwich native Benedict Arnold in an attempt to destroy the Patriot privateer fleet and supplies of goods and naval stores within the city. It is often noted that this raid on New London and Groton was intended to divert General George Washington and the French Army under Rochambeau from their march on Yorktown, Virginia. The main defensive fort for New London was Fort Griswold, located across the Thames River in Groton. It was well known to Arnold, who had already informed the British of this so that they could avoid its artillery fire. British and Hessian troops subsequently attacked and captured New London's Fort Trumbull, while other forces moved in to attack Fort Griswold across the river, then held by Lieutenant-Colonel William Ledyard. The British suffered great casualties at Fort Griswold before the Americans were finally forced to surrender—whereupon Arnold's men stormed into the fort and slaughtered most of the American troops who defended it, including Ledyard. All told, more than 52 British and 83 American soldiers were killed, and more than 142 British and 39 Americans were wounded, many mortally. New London suffered over 6 defenders killed and 24 wounded, while Arnold's men suffered an equal amount.
Connecticut's independent legislature made New London one of the first two cities brought from de facto to formalized incorporations in its January session of 1784, along with New Haven.
19th century
After the War of 1812 broke out, the Royal Navy established a blockade of the East Coast of the United States, including New London. During the war, American forces unsuccessfully attempted to destroy the British ship of the line HMS Ramillies while it was lying at anchor in New London's harbor with torpedoes launched from small boats. This prompted the captain of Ramillies, Sir Thomas Hardy, 1st Baronet, to warn the Americans to cease using this cruel and unheard-of warfare or he would order every house near the shore to be destroyed. The fact that Hardy had been previously so lenient and considerate to the Americans led them to abandon such attempts with immediate effect.[9]: 693
For several decades beginning in the early 19th century, New London was one of the three busiest whaling ports in the world, along with Nantucket and New Bedford, Massachusetts. The wealth that whaling brought into the city furnished the capital to fund much of the city's present architecture. The New Haven and New London Railroad connected New London by rail to New Haven and points beyond by the 1850s. The Springfield and New London Railroad connected New London to Springfield, Massachusetts, by the 1870s.

The Herald: John Ledyard | Columbia Expedition #03.02
British Royal Marine under Captain James Cook and the first American travel writer, John Ledyard witnessed the death of James Cook in Hawaii, and went AWOL to return to his native United States with the scheme of global trade. Hit and Run History heads down to Connecticut to investigate the carnage wrought by Loyalist and Hessian troops prior to Ledyard's homecoming. The aftermath would lead to Ledyard's involvement in the Columbia Expedition -- the first American voyage 'round the world.

Visit to Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay (includes tramlapse tour)
A visit to the largest island in San Francisco Bay: Angel Island. On an unusually warm December day. With the exception of a small portion that is a U.S. Coast Guard Station, the entire island is a California State Park. We arrive and leave by ferry, and take a tramlapse tour around the island, stopping at about 13 different points of interest, including some very good views and a bit of history, too (my first ever tramlapse video). We'll even briefly teleport over to the Golden Gate Bridge.
There are several editing mistakes that snuck through in a few places, oh well... Maybe we'll have a contest to see who can find them all.

The museum was established in 1929 as the Marine Historical Association. Its first fame came with the acquisition in 1941 of the Charles W. Morgan, the only surviving wooden sailing whaler. The seaport was one of the first living history museums in the United States, with a collection of buildings and craftsmen to show how work was done. The seaport now receives about 400,000 visitors each year.
In addition, it supports research via an extensive library; runs the Frank C. Munson Institute of American Maritime Studies, a summer graduate-level academic program, established in 1955 by maritime historian Professor Robert G. Albion of Harvard University; and, in conjunction with Williams College, hosts Williams–Mystic, an undergraduate program in maritime studies. Outreach includes sailing classes for area children.
Mystic Seaport or Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea, in Mystic, Connecticut, is the largest maritime museum in the world. It is notable for its collection of sailing ships and boats, and for the re-creation of the crafts and fabric of an entire 19th-century seafaring village. It consists of more than 60 original historic buildings, most of them rare commercial structures moved to the 17-acre (0.069 km2) site and meticulously restored,More Info
