Laihia (Swedish: Laihela) is a municipality of Finland, founded in 1576 through a separation from Isokyrö and Korsholm.
It is located in the Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of 8,079 (31 January 2019) and covers an area of 508.44 square kilometres (196.31 sq mi) of which 4.14 km2 (1.60 sq mi) is water. The population density is 16.02 inhabitants per square kilometre (41.5/sq mi). Laihia consists of 37 villages.

Vaasa is a city on the west coast of Finland. It received its charter in 1606, during the reign of Charles IX of Sweden and is named after the Royal House of Vasa. Vaasa has a population of 67,588 (31 January 2019) (approximately 120,000 in the Vaasa sub-region), and is the regional capital of Ostrobothnia (Swedish: Österbotten; Finnish: Pohjanmaa).
The city is bilingual with 69.8% of the population speaking Finnish as their first language and 24.8% speaking Swedish. The surrounding Ostrobothnian municipalities have a clear Swedish-speaking majority, which is why the Swedish language maintains a strong position in the city.
Vaasa is generally speaking an industrial town, with several industrial parks. Industry comprises one-fourth of jobs. There is a university, faculties of Åbo Akademi and Hanken, and two universities of applied sciences in the town. Many workers commute from Korsholm, Laihia, and other municipalities nearby.
The film production company Future Film has its head office in Vaasa. Kotipizza has its head office in the Vaskiluodon Satamaterminaali.

The Sr2 is a class of electric locomotives of the VR Group. They were built by SLM/ABB and later by Adtranz and finally Bombardier Transportation and assembled by Transtech Oy. They are closely based on the class Re 460 (or Lok 2000) locomotives of Swiss Federal Railways.
The nicknames of this class are Alppiruusu (Edelweiss), Käkikello (Cuckoo clock), both referring to the Swiss origin of the locomotive, and Marsu (Guinea pig), from the looks of the locomotive.
In 1992, VR ordered the first 20 class Sr2 locomotives; later 20 more were ordered with 12 options. Finally only six of the 12 options were transformed into orders, forming a total fleet of 46 engines. The locomotives are used on both passenger trains and freight trains, and they are the primary locomotives of the fast InterCity trains in Finland.
Until mid-2010s Sr2s were pulling IC trains the classic way, but after Edo-class cab control cars were introduced in 2013, Sr2 units have been used in pull-push mode with IC double deck stock. Until introduction of new Sr3 locomotives, Sr2 has been the only electric locomotive equipped for push-pull among Finnish rolling stock.
As with all the Lok 2000 locomotives, the external design is by Pininfarina.

VR provides car transport services. Seven stations allow loading and unloading of cars on trains: Helsinki, Turku and Tampere in the south, Oulu further north, and Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi and Kolari in Lapland. Car transport trains stop at other stations along the way for normal passenger transport and is available as daily service to Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi and several times a week to Kolari. Finland is the only Nordic country to offer car transport on trains. In August 2021 VR will commence operating the Tampere light rail.

Finland: VR Dv12 diesel locomotive arrives at Vassa station
Finland: VR Dv12 diesel locomotive no. 2620 arrives at Vassa station with the empty coaches ready to form train H450, the 1520 Vaasa to Jyvaskyla.
Internal onboard clips taken close to Vassa station from train H450 are included from 0:36 & 1:46. All clips recorded on 06 July 2013.
The Dv12 (Sv12 and Sr12 until 1977) is the standard Finnish medium-weight diesel-hydraulic road locomotive operated by VR. As all the main lines of Finnish railway network have been electrificied, the locomotive is designated mostly to unelectrified, less frequently used side lines. Occasionally it may still pull cargo trains on main lines. It has also been put in service as a shunter, replacing older classes Dv15 and Dv16 as they were retired. A total of 192 locomotives were built by Lokomo and Valmet between the years 1963 and 1984. As of 2011, the oldest Dv12 units are 48 years old.
The Dv12 is a general purpose locomotive which was designed for both passenger and cargo train use. Its 1000 kW power is somewhat low by current standards, but it is capable of multiple-unit operation with only one train crew and doublets and triplets are common. It has a low axle load of 15.6 tonnes, which makes it very well suited for branch lines that allow only smaller axle loads. All the axles are interconnected with shafts and universal joints to the Voith L 216 rs hydraulic transmission. Because all axles must rotate at the same speed, the individual slipping of axles is impossible. This translates into a very good tractive effort for a 62 tonne locomotive. The main engine is a Finnish-built Tampella SACM MGO V16 BSHR Diesel with two Brown Boveri-VTR 200 M turbochargers.
The Dv12 has two speed ranges, 85 km/h (53 mph) for cargo use and 125 km/h (78 mph) for passenger use. This mechanical gear can only be switched with the locomotive at standstill.

Vaasa (Swedish: Vasa) is a city on the west coast of Finland. It received its charter in 1606, during the reign of Charles IX of Sweden and is named after the Royal House of Vasa. Today, Vaasa has a population of 65,768 (28 February 2013) [2] (approximately 90,000 in the Vaasa sub-region), and is the regional capital of Ostrobothnia (Swedish: Österbotten, Finnish: Pohjanmaa).
Vaasa has three universities. The largest one is the University of Vaasa, which is located in the neighbourhood of Palosaari. Palosaari is a peninsula near the center of Vaasa, connected to it by bridges. The other two universities are Åbo Akademi, headquartered in Turku, and the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration, or Hanken, headquartered in Helsinki.

Jyväskylä (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈjyvæsˌkylæ]) is a city and municipality in Finland and in the western part of the Finnish Lakeland. It is the largest city in the region of Central Finland and on the Finnish Lakeland.
Jyväskylä railway station is served by VR direct trains to Helsinki, Pieksämäki, Tampere, Turku, Vaasa and many other destinations in Finland. The station was extensively modernised in 2002.

VR or VR Group (Finnish: VR-Yhtymä Oy, Swedish: VR-Group Ab) is a state-owned railway company in Finland. Formerly known as Suomen Valtion Rautatiet (Finnish State Railways) until 1922 and Valtionrautatiet / Statsjärnvägarna (State Railways) until 1995. Its most important function is the operation of freight and passenger rail services.
Since 2010, the maintenance and the construction of the railway network are the responsibility of the Finnish Transport Agency (Finnish: Liikennevirasto). The operation and network were originally carried out by the parent company Valtionrautatiet until 1995, when it was split into VR Group and the rail administration entity Ratahallintokeskus.
VR operated steam locomotives until 1975; the regular use of steam traction for scheduled passenger services ended in 1970 but occasional use continued until 1975. As of 2011, the company operates two classes of electric locomotives (Sr1 and Sr2) and three classes of diesel locomotives (Dv12, Dr14 and Dr16). The use of diesel locomotive hauled passenger trains has declined due to electrification of all main lines and the (re)introduction of railbuses (Dm12) on secondary routes. In October 2010, VR announced plans to renew its locomotive fleet by ordering around 200 new locomotives, which are expected to enter service in 2015-2025.

Finland: Sm2 class electric multiple units leave Espoo station on a Helsinki - Kirkkonummi service
A pair of Sm2 class electric multiple units (numbers 51 & 96) are seen leaving Espoo station in suburban Helsinki. The train is the 1907 Helsinki to Kirkkonummi, clip recorded on the 2nd July 2013.
The Sm2 is a class of electric multiple unit in use by the VR Group in commuter traffic in the Helsinki area. 50 Sm2 units were built between 1975 and 1981 by Valmet airplane factory in Tampere. The electric systems were built by Strömberg in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki. The Sm2 units have undergone a complete renovation in the 2000s, during which the trains were essentially rebuilt. Only the bodywork and the technics remained mostly untouched. Many of the changes are visible to the passengers, including a different type of seat, modern toilets and a new livery.
To the outside the most significant difference in the appearance of Sm1 and Sm2 units are the corrugations designed to support the structure on the sides of the Sm1 unit. They don't exist in the more modern Sm2. Sm2 units can be coupled together with Sm1 units (but not with Sm4 or Sm5 units), forming trains of at most six units (12 cars), but the length of the commuter train platforms limits the maximum length to five units in commercial traffic. Naturally, the full length trains can be seen in the depot traffic in the mornings and evenings.
Like the Sm1, each Sm2 unit consists of two cars: the Sm2 is actually the motored carriage of the multiple unit, while the other car, the driving trailer, is a part of the Eioc class. The train can be driven from both ends. The maximum speed of the train is 120 km/h (75 mph). The bodywork is made of aluminium, as opposed to steel in Sm1. The bogies are better and the Sm2 units have air suspension instead of steel suspension. The Sm2 units are numbered between 6051/6251 and 6100/6300 (the number of Sm2 unit / the Eioc carriage).

Espoo is the second largest city and municipality in Finland. The population of the city of Espoo was 268,924 as of 30 September 2015. It is part of the Finnish Capital Region, and most of its population lives in the inner urban core of the Helsinki metropolitan area, along with the cities of Helsinki, Vantaa, and Kauniainen. Espoo shares its eastern border with Helsinki and Vantaa, while enclosing Kauniainen. The city is on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, in the region of Uusimaa.
The name Espoo probably comes from the Swedish name for the River Espoo, Espå (or Espåå), which in turn comes from the old Swedish word äspe, meaning a border of aspen, and the Swedish word for river, å, thus a river bordered by aspen. The name was first mentioned in 1431. The banks of the River Espoo are even today heavily populated with aspen.
Several major companies are based in Espoo, including Nokia Solutions and Networks, Microsoft Mobile, KONE, Neste Oil, Fortum, Orion Corporation, and Outokumpu, as well as video game developers Rovio and Remedy Entertainment.

Espoo railway station is a railway station located in the district of Espoon keskus in the city of Espoo, Finland. It is located between the stations of Tuomarila and Kauklahti, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from the Helsinki Central railway station.
Espoo is the only station in Espoo city that also serves long-distance trains. It was built in 1903 according to plans by the architect Bruno Granholm. The station was expanded in 1909.
The station building has many ornamental details. The station acted as the Espoo station building from 1903 to 1981 and the post office was also moved to the station as soon as it was finished, when the offices of the stationmaster and post officer were combined. Nowadays, the Espoo station is located on the bridge over the tracks and the post office is located to the south of the tracks.

Finland: VR class Sm3 Pendolino tilting train leaves Lempaala on a Vaasa to Helsinki service
VR class Sm3 Pendolino tilting train (no.07) leaves Lempaala on train S2 44, the 0646 Vaasa to Helsinki.
Clip recorded 16th March 2020.
The Sm3 Pendolino (originally branded as Pendolino S220, and usually referred to simply as the Pendolino) is a class of high-speed body-tilting trains operated by VR Group. It is a member of the Pendolino train family; its design is based on the ETR 460. The first two trainsets were assembled in Finland by Rautaruukki-Transtech in the mid-1990s. The rest of the series of eighteen EMUs were built by FIAT Ferroviaria (later Alstom) between 2000 and 2006. The trains serve most of Finland's major cities such as Helsinki, Turku, Oulu and Joensuu with a maximum speed of 220 km/h (140 mph), although this speed is only attained between Kerava and Lahti. The train has a power output of 4,000 kW (5,400 hp) and weighs 328 tonnes (323 long tons; 362 short tons).
VR advertised the arrival of the full Pendolino fleet with the slogan New Train Era (Finnish: Uusi juna-aika). It started on 3 September 2006, when the line between Kerava and Lahti was officially opened and timetables changed to take the full potential of the Sm3 into account. Travel times between Helsinki and eastern Finland were cut by up to an hour.
Each train consists of six cars, from front to back: IM, CM, TTC, TT, CM and IM. The IM class carriages at each end of the train are powered and fitted with a driver's compartment. The CM class is a powered passenger car. Class TTC is unpowered, it is equipped with a pantograph and a restaurant. The TT class is an unpowered passenger car which has also a pantograph on its roof. Each of the powered carriages is fitted with one motor on each of the two bogies. If needed, two trains can be coupled together.
