Lacombe to Nordegg - TIMELAPSE
012 - Lacombe to Nordegg - TIMELAPSE
This is a #timelapse of our little road trip from #Lacombe AB to #Nordegg AB. This trip takes just about 2 hours one way. I have condensed it to about just over 10 Minutes.
I created this to show my dad what the terrain from where I live looks like until you get to the Rockies. Please enjoy the music and sights,

Most of these splendid homes were spared during the Civil War, and many are now open for tours.

All Saints' Day, Lacombe, Louisiana - November 2021
As the clock ticks down on my life in New Orleans, I travel across the lake to Lacombe. The small town is steeped in centuries old traditions, notably in the blending of Catholic faith and Native American culture on All Saints' Day. Though not isolated to only Lacombe, the memorial is most reflected in the people who call Lacombe home. Every cemetery is blessed by the church, and all are adorned by the families of the dead with flowers, prayers, and candles. Though a stranger in a small town intruding on a sacred tradition, I did not feel I could leave New Orleans without sharing this captivating tradition with you.
It is not uncommon to see similar reverence in other cemeteries all over Louisiana, but it is sporadic, and does not reach the same level of participation that is found in Lacombe. My best guess, the further away from city centers you travel, the more likely you are to find a cemetery adorned with candles and flowers. On All Souls' Day, many families, especially those rooted in Louisiana over generations, can be found having picnics at their family graves all over Louisiana.
Sadly, this is a short video, with little to no commentary, and the audio was terrible due to proximity to main roads. Because this is such a small town and I was a stranger there among this sacred ritual, I kept my distance and respected those mourning their dead.
Here is a local news article from the year previous:
My goal was to visit several cemeteries this night, but after filming the second cemetery, I got lost in the swamp and then my car got stuck. Maybe it was my punishment for intruding.
The prayer at the beginning and end of the video are from an All Souls' Day Mass at Canterbury Cathedral on Tuesday, 2 November, 2021.
This marks the end of the videos filmed in New Orleans. In the coming weeks, the channel will begin focusing on cemeteries in Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia, and South Carolina. I hope all of you will stick with me as we make a transition. I appreciate your patience as things slowly get settled for me in my new location. Thank you all for visiting, commenting, subscribing, and interacting with the videos.
