Road Trip: Seydikemer to Kibrya to Turkey's Lavender Village Kuyucak to Sagalassos to Antalya

15-17. July 2021. Turkey. I've been traveling in Turkey for about 20 years now, and there hasn't yet been an instance where I need to go from A to B, and can't load the trip with new sites. This short video is of a road trip from Seydikemer in Muğla Province (combining a visit to the ruined Lycian citadel Tlos / Τλώς and a backgammon lesson for one of my prize students), to Antalya, overnighting in Isparta's Kuyucak, known as Turkey's Lavender Village (Lavanta Köyü). On the way to Kuyucak, popped in to the Ancient Greek city Kibrya (Κιβύρα) in Burdur Province to see the Medusa mosaic on the floor of the Odeion (music house). For protection, the mosaic is covered by 7 layers of dirt 9 months out of the year. Before reaching Antalya, stopped by the ruins of the wealthy Pisidian town Sagalassos (Σαγαλασσός) in the Western Taurus Mountains. I've heard it referred to as the most Roman ancient city in Turkey. And there you have it!

The Antique Pool is famous for its submerged Roman columns, the result of an earthquake.

The Princes’ Islands are a cluster of 9 islands southeast of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara. Mainly car-free, the islands are known for their horse-drawn carriages (phaetons). At the highest point of Büyükada, the largest island, the 6th-century Hagia Yorgi Church has panoramic views. Nearby are the pine forests of Dil Burnu National Park.

Kuyucak, Turkey: Lavender Fields as far as the eye can see 😍😱 #turkey #Kuyucak

Turkey’s lavender fields are located in a small village called Kuyucak Köyü.
Enjoy nature, and breathe in the relaxing smell of lavender.

Isparta is in the southwestern part of Turkey, in between Pamukkale and Antalya. The best way to travel to Turkey’s lavender fields is by car. If you’re traveling from Isparta to Kuyucak, it takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to travel by car, depending on traffic. If you have time, you can also see some amazing places in the region. Since all of the fields are family-owned and still in the beginning stages of tourism, all of the money that you spend here will go directly back into the land.

There was a lot of love and attention to detail, even a handful of photo props, like a cute purple bike and photo frames. The Lavender fields in Kuyucak produce more than 500 tons of lavender per year. If you’re visiting the lavender fields in Turkey, don’t forget to take a moment to just walk around.

The lavender fields make a perfect day trip from Isparta. The lavender fields in Turkey are definitely a must see if you’re there in the summer months.

ISPARTA : THE LAVENDER FIELDS OF TURKEY MAKE YOU FEEL AS IF YOU'RE IN A MOVIE

Kuyucak Köyü : This is where you will find the only Lavender fields of Turkey. Isparta is already famous for its Apples, Roses and Carpets. A few years back, some old ladies tried planting lavender plants by chance to eventually find out the plants grew pretty well. It didn't take longer to witness the mini gardens to transform into big fields and ending up in attracting hundreds and thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.

The fields are approximately 45km in distance from the center of Isparta but closer to the Airport. After arriving in Isparta you should either travel by your own vehicle or by a taxi since there's no public transport to this beautiful village.

Old Roman Olive Trees of Metropolis | Türkiye 🇹🇷 Turkey

This short is a clip from my full video at the Ancient City Metropolis in Turkey. This city was known for it's grapes and olives during the Roman times. And due to it's location was a prime trading city for these items. Watch the full video on my channel.

In this video we head to see some obscure and rarely visited ruins just north of Ephesus. This was the ancient city of Metropolis in western Turkey. Famous during it's time for it's wine and olive oil. The site is still covered in healthy olive trees. Sadly since barely any tourists come here not much time or money has been spent on it's restoration. Most of what remains are large and luxurious Roman Baths. The lower baths had gigantic mosaic floors which are some of the largest mosaics I have ever seen. This city is right on the path between Istanbul and Ephesus and really should become a standard stop if going between these two places. In the next video we are going to the ruins of Smyrna.

This trip was a few months before the horrible earthquake that just hit Turkey. My heart breaks for all the people there as we stayed in several of the worst hit cities and it is so upsetting to see the destruction.

Is Doğanbey The Most Beautiful Old Village In Turkey?

After being abandoned twice, Doğanbey is now a museum village. The houses are restored and protected and I promise, it will leave you speechless. Any lover of old Turkish villages has to go there.
Doğanbey is so pretty that it seems unreal. Just go and check it out for yourself.

Doğanbey is a old Greek village in Turkey in the of Söke, Aydın Province. Doğanbey is a village-museum, where you can admire the beautiful examples of traditional architecture of the 19th and early 20th century. The village is divided by a deep ravine where the stream flows. Its noise and the chirping of birds are the only sounds I heard in Doğanbey.
